Mount road | Anna salai | madras to chennai | Kattiyakkaran | அண்ணா சாலை
Anna Salai is more than 400 years old and has its origins in a cart track which was used by the European employees of the British East India Company to travel from the factory at Fort St George to the holy town of St Thomas Mount where the apostle St Thomas was crucified[citation needed]. The road, in its present form, took shape during the time of Charles Macartney who served as Governor of Madras. With the construction of Marmalong Bridge in 1724, the road started gaining prominence. In the following years, the road became part of the city's central business district which originally covered only George Town.[5] Today, most of Chennai's business and corporate offices are located on Anna Salai.
By the 1800s, Mount Road has become the traders' area of the city of Madras while First Line Beach in Georgetown remained the seat of processing, shipping and manufacturing businesses. However, the business activities of Mount Road was responsible for the city's economic growth. Several giant firms had beginnings on Mount Road, from the Amalgamations group to the TVS group. The road's proximity to the Government House, the home of the Governor, and the palaces of the Nawabs of Arcot resulted in several firms selling cars and other luxury goods setting up shops on the road. Simpson & Co, which moved to its current location opposite Government Estate after 1875, began building carriages and coaches and then cars. In 1903, the first steam-driven car was taken for its debut drive on Mount Road. To overcome the Great Depression of the 1930s, Simpon's introduced the hire purchase system for cars and trucks. In the 1930s, the TVS group, which was a travel operator in mofussil areas, was established in Madras by acquiring the Madras Auto Service property. In the 1940s, Anantharamakrishnan helped with the formation of Amalgamations & Co. The city's first skyscraper, the LIC Building, was built in 1959. Several major firms were then established, namely, Spencers & Co, Victoria Family Hotel (the present location of the Indian Overseas Bank Headquarters) and Higginbothams.

History of Chennai's first flyover // ancient flyover
Anna Flyover, also known as Gemini Flyover, is a dual-armed grade separator in the central business district of Chennai, India. Built in 1973 and dubbed one of the top-rated flyovers in the country, it is Asia's First Grade Separator, the first flyover in Chennai[1][2] and the third Flyover in India, after the ones at Kemps Corner and Marine Drive in Mumbai. It was the longest flyover in the country when it was built.[3] Its main purpose is to allow traffic movement on Mount Road—now renamed Anna Salai—near Nungambakkam High Road (Uthamar Gandhi Salai) to continue unhindered by the cross traffic. The presence of the Gemini Studios, which was demolished later, resulted in the flyover coming to be known as Gemini Flyover and the area being referred to as the Gemini Circle.
On two sides of the circle roundabout below the centre of the flyover are two identical statues of a man controlling a horse placed there to commemorate the banning of horse racing.
Anna Flyover has been beautified with other elements such as water fountains, landscaping of its 24,000 square feet (2,200 m2) traffic islands, cove lighting under the traffic movement area, restoration of the horse statue, a toilet for the police personnel, murals depicting social messages, and so forth.

History of Anna Nagar, Chennai | History of Areas in Chennai | Madras Trends
A popular meme had been doing the rounds on social media: ‘Chennai is a city, Madras is an emotion and Anna Nagar is a separate country’. While it did make sense to the residents of the locality west of the city who did not have to go beyond the Anna Arch for anything, not many know that this area is a fine example of post-independence development of Madras.

History of VGP
Till 1975 the concept of amusement parks and beach resorts were popular only in foreign Countries. Mr VG Paneerdas brought in this sensational concept and captivated Indians back home. He created VGP Golden Beach, situated on the East Coast Road, its location is along the undulating shoreline and the shimmering white sand enhances its universal appeal. VGP became almost the popular name under the gentle tutelage of Mr. VG Santhosam and the fireband dynamism of Mr. VG Selvaraj. Mr.VGP Ravidas, the eldest son of VG Paneerdas joined forces with Mr.Selvaraj and together they nurtured this park to its current popularity decibel, all the while embellishing the VGP motif.
Don't let the sun stop you from having fun. Water sports galore at VGP Universal Kingdom. Lazy river, Wave pool, Slides, Rain Dance, Tornado and lots more. Join the summer carnival and enjoy with family and friends.
