In this video, I show off some remarkable footage of the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve in full bloom. The rolling hills and nearby farms are carpeted in vivid color!
With the plentiful winter rains, it's turned out to be a banner year for the little orange poppies and other assorted wildflowers. the reserve is located 15 miles west of Highway 14 near the city of Lancaster. The visitor center is located 1/2 mile north of the intersection of 150th St W & Lancaster Road.
We visited on April 3rd, 2019. Even though it was a Wednesday afternoon the place was still packed with people that had driven out to see the wondrous sight. Parking in the reserve cost $10.
We have passed by this area at least a half dozen times but our timing has never been just right or the area didn't get enough rain for the impressive super bloom to take place. We were pretty stoked to finally be able to see it.
Another one scratched off the old bucket list. :)

SUPER BLOOM IS ALMOST GONE at Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve 2019 Walk Tour ???? 【4K】
Spring season is almost over and hot weather is making the poppies wither and dry out. Most of the poppies are now gone in Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve in Lancaster. There might be few weeks left to see the poppies, most of them can be seen on the Poppy Trail South Loop.
What is Super Bloom?
Super Bloom is a rare phenomenon that happens once in a decade but it's the second time in California. Thanks to steady pour of rain during winter followed by warm weather, the dormant seeds started to breakout, creating a blanket of vibrant wildflower poppies across the desert floor and mountains.

Poppies In Full Bloom At Antelope Valley Reserve
Visitors and state park rangers say this is one of the best years to see a major bloom of poppies. Kara Finnstrom reports.

Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve experienced an amazing super bloom in 2019. I got a chance to visit on April 10th and really enjoyed exploring the park and seeing all of the orange poppies. If you get a chance to go in the next few weeks be sure to do it as it is something amazing to experience.

In this video we take a trip to the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve. The brilliant orange blooms of the California Poppies are definitely something everyone should experience for themselves. But as you have probably heard before, some years produce a better bloom than others.
Fortunately the rain fall for the winter of 2016-2017 has set up a vigorous bloom, and we had a chance to visit the reserve on March 29, 2017 in the midst of an impressive bloom.
The wildflower fields were most spectacular this year on the eastern side of the park. We took the trail up to Butte Vista Point then wrapped back around a hill on the eastern edge that showcased a gorgeous display of both poppies and some other wildflowers as well.
Our whole journey was probably around 3 miles, and at a leisurely pace, took about 2.5 hours to complete, with plenty of time to stop and take photos.
Some advice if you’re going:
1. Go EARLY and go on a WEEKDAY if at all possible. When the bloom is good it draws big crowds. When we left the park around noon on a Wednesday the line to drive into the park was spilling out on to Lancaster Road.
2. Definitely bring water and sun protection. You'll be hating yourself if you don't
3. Parking is $10 but you need cash and we needed exact change so we could probably deposit the payment for our day pass.
4. Park hours are sunrise to sunset. We got there at 8:15 a.m. and it was already getting a bit crowded. By the time we left at noon-ish it was a madhouse.
DrivingDirections:
The Reserve is located 15 miles west of Lancaster at 15101 Lancaster Road.
From Highway 14: Take the Avenue I exit and head west 15 miles. Avenue I becomes Lancaster Road. It'll be on the right.
From I-5: Take Hwy 138 east and turn right on 170th Street West. Make a left at the end, onto Lancaster Road. Follow the road two miles.

Golden Poppy is California's state flower. Each spring, the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve comes alive with the seasonal surprises of the Mojave Desert Grassland habitat.
The duration and intensity of colors and scents vary from year to year. The wildflower season generally lasts from as early as mid-February through May, with a variety of wildflowers creating a mosaic of color that changes daily.
Dense carpets of orange poppies have bloomed along the hillsides and ridges at the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve in Lancaster. The golden poppies are at peak, mostly on the east side of the reserve, and likely will last through the end of April and possibly into May, state park officials said Tuesday.

California Poppy superbloom at Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve
If you've never been, you should go. Pretty amazing. Here's some info:
Punch in: 15101 Lancaster Rd, Lancaster, CA 93536, but DO NOT turn down the road once you hit that intersection - you will regret it, even on a weekday. That is, unless you absolutely have to walk among the poppies. You'll spend at least 15 minutes in gridlock even on a weekday.
Instead, turn down the dirt road at 34° 43.484'N // 118° 24.216'W and park somewhere with a good view.
Please be sure and check local road signs - you never know when boundaries and local ordinances may change.

This was my 2nd Super Bloom and my friend Robyn's 1st here! We got there right when they opened and practically had the park to ourselves for the first few hours! Thanks to the extra rain Southern California got this Winter we had another Super Bloom! The flowers did not disappoint this year! The park looks like heaven on Earth when this happens! This short video is a tour of the 2019 Super Bloom at this beautiful state park!
