Mount Hood - Oregon
Also Featuring: Mirror Lake, Barlow Road, Apple Valley Country Store which has DELICIOUS Huckleberry Milkshakes!....and beautiful Oregon wildflowers.
The song is You Are My Strength by Hillsong featuring Reuben Morgan.
Apple Valley Country Store - Hood River's most delicious destination. Apple Valley offers homemade pies, apple dumplings, old fashioned jams, and huckleberry milkshakes made right in their kitchen. Using fruit grown in Oregon and the Hood River Valley, their creations have been featured in Sunset Magazine, Gourmet, Bon Appetit, and others. A visit to the scenic Columbia River Gorge is not complete without stopping for a warm piece of pie and ice cream at Apple Valley.
Apple Valley Country Store is located at:
2363 Tucker Road

In 1845, 53 year old Samuel K. Barlow of Illinois arrived at The Dalles. He became very disgruntled at the high tolls being charged to transport emigrants down the Columbia. He was also very concerned about the extreme hazards of the trip. Barlow scouted out a wagon road around the south side of Mt. Hood, which he began operating as a toll road in 1846. It was a very rough road, with trees and rocks making the journey even more difficult.
The Barlow Road was the last overland segment of the Oregon Trail before reaching the Willamette Valley. This road provided an alternative to the dangerous and expensive route that used rafts to transport wagons down the Columbia River. But it was not free. The Barlow Road was the first place on the 2,100 mile Oregon Trail where tolls were charged. When the road opened in 1846, tolls were $5.00 per wagon and 10 cents for every head of livestock. Five dollars was about one week's wages, but consider the alternative -- floating down the Columbia River in boats or rafts cost nearly $50.00! By 1863, tolls had changed to $2.50 per wagon and team, 75 cents for horse and rider, and 10 cents for other livestock.
The Barlow Road operated under many owners as a toll road from 1846 to 1919. There were no tolls after 1919 when the estate of the final owner deeded the road to the State of Oregon.
The Mount Hood National Forest maintains 40 miles of Barlow Road corridor. Much of the road on the Forest is still in use today for recreation activities. About 30 miles remain intact, but not always in a form you would expect. The Barlow Road underwent an evolution of travel modes--from oxen-pulled wagon to Model A Fords. In the Zigzag Valley, much of the original route is beneath U.S. Highway 26. Motorized travel meant mechanized re-routing and maintenance. The new motorized routes (including Mount Hood Loop Highway of 1924) left many isolated pieces of pristine wagon ruts. Rut traces are still visible today.
The ruts are actually a swale--a five to six foot wide trench worn out by the wagon and the stock that pulled them. Near Pioneer Woman's Grave, they get four to five feet deep. Fine traces exist within 200 feet of paved parking at Pioneer Woman's Grave and Barlow Pass. The one mile hiking trail from Barlow Pass to Pioneer Woman's Grave has some of the best rut traces to be seen; they are marked with rustic Original Wagon Route signs. There are also fine traces near Devil's Half Acre. Without formal maps, ruts on Laurel Hill are for the true rut nuts to search out. Wagons were lowered at Laurel Hill; a stump with rope burn was near the top of chute number two, but the marks have disintegrated through time.

AndNowUKnow - Hood River Cherry Company - Behind the Greens
HOOD RIVER, OR -
Demand for Hood River Cherry Company’s tree-ripened, high elevation cherries is growing to a worldwide cult following, and with good reason.
In a world where everything seems to move faster and faster, we grow cherries worth waiting for the old-fashioned way. Hood River Cherry Company cherries grow on the tree until their sugar level reaches at least 21 brix, far above the 15 brix starting point that the rest of the industry uses. That means sweeter, juicier, riper cherries—Mother Nature’s Magic on a stem.
Why are our cherries so good? Cool summer nights in our orchard, located high on the slopes of Oregon’s Mt. Hood, mean the cherries have more time to mature, resulting in fruit that is sweeter and bigger than traditional cherries. Because of our high-elevation, we provide cherries later in the season. We produce half the tonnage per acre compared to other orchards, ensuring each cherry is packed with more nutrients, more sugar, and more flavor.
Many in the commercial cherry industry are focused on optical sorting and increasing the use of technology to harvest, sort, and get their fruit to market. Not Hood River Cherry Company. When our cherries are finally ready for harvest, our workers pick, sort, and pack cherries within an hour. Unlike our competition, we size and pack fruit by hand, which eliminates bruising. Every box we ship contains hand-selected fruit that is size 10.5 row and larger.
Our cherries are ready to deliver to your stores the morning after picking, packed in the highest-grade boxes and packaging materials to preserve the impeccable quality. The result? Your customers enjoy outstanding cherries, fresh from the orchard, in the perfect state of ripeness.
Our Bings, Rainiers, and Lapins are consistently praised as the best-tasting cherries on the market. The Lapin cherry, with its ability to withstand our high-elevation winters, continues to out-perform all others year-after-year in sugar level, firmness, and flavor.
We set our standards high and refuse to cut corners. That’s why every year our customers wait for their chance to enjoy Hood River Cherry Company cherries — a seasonal, tasty treat. Hood River Cherry Company: a family-owned orchard producing the country’s best cherries since 1996.

Harts Camp Oregon Glamping Experience
Harts Camp, a luxury Airstream Park a few steps from the beach that brings glamping to a whole new level. Fixed on the coast of Oregon in Pacific City, Harts Camp quickly made our “return as soon as possible” list.
Our short one-night stay left us wanting more from the place with wide spread ocean views, craft brews, and a cozy coffee shop. We made the most of it though. We hiked a massive sand dune, enjoyed the carved out rock formation of Cape Kiwanda, sippedOregonn wines, grilled fresh caught fish picked up at the local market, and had pour overs on the porch.
Our photography partnership with Harts Camp is one for the books. We are thankful to be able to work with such amazing properties and bring their content creation and digital marketing to a whole new level.
We look forward to returning to visit our friends in Oregon and would highly recommend the trek out to this one of a kind property.
*We stayed in Airstream #3 each camper offers its unique experience and private fenced in space.

No Trespassing Tour: Prosser Mountain Climb; Washington; Fences for Freedom
I can understand why they fence the mountains off for the cows. Also, they don't want anyone walking with the cows in the area, so no trespassing can make sense. But I didn't see any cows and very little evidence of their existence as well. It seems like quite a shame to block this awesome mountain completely off from the public.
Fencing off adventures like this from people is much of the reason why we get fat.
The Columbia: America's Greatest Power Stream (1949)
The Columbia is the most famous movie produced by BPA's Motion Picture Information division. This film was originally slated as a remake of the 1939 film Hydro, but production was shelved because of World War II. The production was then resurrected following the Vanport flood of 1948. Like Hydro, The Columbia illustrates the economic and societal value of the Federal Columbia River Power System and affordable electricity. BPA information officer Stephen Kahn used footage and music from Hydro, but inserted the war industries, flood control, and of course, the music of Woody Guthrie, whom BPA employed in 1941 to write songs inspired by the great Columbia River and Pacific Northwest. Learn about other BPA films at: bpa.gov/goto/Films.

Inside The First Amazon Go Store
Here's what it's like inside Amazon's cashier-less store. Amazon Go has no checkout lines, cashiers, or registers. The store is located in Seattle, right near Amazon's campus.
They sell prepared foods and grocery staples. There's also a small selection of beer and wine.
You use the Amazon Go app to enter the store.
Here's how the entire process works.
Customers enter the turnstiles by scanning a QR code. Anything you pick up is added to your virtual cart. Any items you put back will automatically be removed from your cart. Once you finished shopping, you can walk right out.
No cashier needed. Your Amazon account will automatically be charged.
But how does Amazon make sure no one steals anything?
Amazon Go uses cameras and high-tech sensors. The combination of cameras and sensors keeps track of where the items are located. However, the technology isn't perfect, as some YouTubers have proven.
Currently, Seattle is Amazon Go's pilot location.
Will walk in and walk out stores be the future of retail?
