WSRE | In Your Own Backyard | The Arcadia Mill

- The Arcadia Mill Archaeological Site showcases the first and largest Early American water-powered industrial complex in Florida. Located on a hilly tract of woods and streams in historic Santa Rosa County, it was abandoned in the 1850s and rediscovered more than a century later. Excavated and preserved for the education and enjoyment of future generations, it features a museum/visitor's center, replicas of such mill equipment as a water-wheel, sash saw and a mule-drawn railroad car, a boardwalk, nature trail and the archaeological traces of several of the industries located at the Arcadia site, which included a lumber mill, gristmill, bucket and pail factory, a water-powered sawmill, shingle mill, cotton textile mill, and even an experimental silk cultivation operation. The program is hosted by Sherri Hemminghaus Weeks.

Exploring the Pilchuck Mill site

The ghost town of Pilchuck, near Arlington WA, once housed a large shingle mill and railroad. Natalie and I made our first trip to the site while running another errand and took a quick look around. You can definitely expect more videos from this place.
