The Nemean Games took place every four years, just like the Olympic Games and have now been revived at their birthplace. The next Nemean Games (Nemead) will take place on 8-10 June 2016 at the ancient stadium of Nemea and anyone can either visit to watch and/or participate in the stadium run and the 7.5-km run from Ancient Kleonai to Nemea.

The Nemean Games were one of the four Panhellenic Games of Ancient Greece, and were held at Nemea every two years.
With the Isthmian Games, the Nemean Games were held both the year before and the year after the Ancient Olympic Games and the Pythian Games in the third year of the Olympiad cycle. Like the Olympic Games, they were held in honor of Zeus. They were said to have been founded by Heracles after he defeated the Nemean Lion. Αnother myth said that they originated as the funeral games of a child named Opheltes. However, they are known to have existed only since the 6th century BC (from 573 BC, or earlier). The winners received a wreath of wild celery leaves from the city of Argos.

Τα Ελευσίνια ήταν γιορτή και μυστηριακή τελετή που πραγματοποιούνταν στην Ελευσίνα της Αττικής προς τιμήν της θεάς Δήμητρας και της Περσεφόνης. Κατά κοινή παραδοχή, επρόκειτο για την ιερότερη και πιο σεβαστή τελετή από όλες τις γιορτές της αρχαίας Ελλάδας.

The Eleusinian Mysteries were initiation ceremonies held every year for the cult of Demetra and Persephone based at Eleusis in ancient Greece. Of all the mysteries celebrated in ancient times, these were held to be the ones of greatest importance. The mysteries represented the myth of the abduction of Persephone from her mother Demeter by the king of the underworld Hades, in a cycle with three phases, the descent (loss), the search and the ascent, with the main theme the ascent of Persephone and the reunion with her mother. It was a major festival during the Hellenic era, and later spread to Rome. The name of the town, Eleusís seems to be Pre-Greek and it is probably a counterpart with Elysium and the goddess Eileithyia.
The archaeological area of Ancient Nemea
One of the four panhellenic religious games in Ancient Greece were the Nemean Games. They were held the year before and the year after the Olympians and Pythians Games. The winners used to take as a prize a celery wreath. The sight is quite well preserved and beside the museum, the temple of Zeus and the stadium, you can also admire the nature. Nemea is also known from the legend of Hercules and his first labour there which was to kill the lion that drew terror to the locals.

GREECE - The Archaeological Museum of Tegea
1906 - 1907: Bishop Neilos (Smyrniotopoulos) donates a plot of land at Piali (modern day Alea) to the Archaeological Society at Athens for the construction of the Archaeological Museum of Tegea. The Society accepts the donation and proceeds to the approval of the construction cost of the building.
