Norway Arctic Circle - Winter Hike Bodo Nordland
An exhilerating experience facing the elements in the Arctic Circle of Norway.. Kitted out with ice grippers, we abandoned the Hurtigruten Ship, and our Norwegian Guides took us over ice, and woodlands of the Borvasstindan Mountains. Here the Right to Roam stems from early Viking Laws allowing Norwegians to escape the stresses in life.

Earlier this autumn students from University of Nordland, Bodø, went on a tour to Saltstraumen, the world`s strongest maelstrom.

After leaving Split Croatia, our main focus was Tromso and the northern lights. We had very rough weather and didn't know if we could see it during our week visit. We share what happen in the video blog.

What a place to get away. Jeff Allen is a longtime sea kayaker who guides expeditions to his favorite place on Earth: northern Norway. The expedition starts in sea kayaks, paddling while surrounded by orcas and whales distracted by the herring rich waters; then moves to land, on sleds pulled by energetic dogs. It's a pleasure for Allen, since he knows that what the expeditioners will see will truly blow their minds. Filmed by Greg Dennis and with music by Chris Davey, this short documentary was shot during the blue time—the stretch of winter when the sun doesn't rise above the horizon.

Aurora Borealis sometimes referred to as polar lights or northern lights is natural light display in the Earth's sky, most often seen in the high-latitude regions around the Arctic.

Orcas Co-Exist With Norway's Arctic Fishermen
From The Shadows: The symbiotic relationship between Atlantic orcas and the fishermen of Norway is unique. Following this story, underwater photographer Jacques de Vos captures the first footage of the whales feeding at night.

In Northern Norway herring abounds, attracting orcas in their hundreds. Having learnt that escaped herring from the fishermen's nets are easy prey, the whales can hear the fishing boats pumping their catch from as far as 18km away. Sometimes it's kind of like we help each other, says professional fisherman Borre Hansen, as orcas circle around his boat. Ensuring that no orcas are captured in his nets is the biggest challenge he faces. Filming these animals for the first time at night, Jacques is able to capture their secretive underwater world, noticing their playful and inquisitive behaviour. This was as much a social 'get together' as it was about the feeding, he marvels.

Born to Run – a Slow Film about BIRK Husky, Norway
A Slow film about the people (and huskies!) behind one of our very special winter holidays in Arctic Norway.
Together with her family, Trine Danielson Beddari runs BIRK Husky, a dog-sledding resort located on the banks of the Pasvik river that divides Norway and Russia. Trine and her team take intrepid travellers across frozen lakes, through silent forests and magical winter landscapes straight from films like Doctor Zhivago. An exhilarating, thrilling, and bumpily beautiful ride like no other! You can visit Trine and her huskies on several of our Slow holidays to Norway, while staying at a family-run guesthouse in nearby Sollia:
In this film, she tells us how her huskies seem quite literally born to run – from the moment they are first harnessed to the sleds, new puppies tug at the leads, ready to set off! They have an amazing energy, and it is wonderful to see how much fun the dogs have pulling the sleds through the snow. The close-knit ‘family’ also includes Benjamin, a Pyrenean Mountain Dog, who protects the kennels from brown bears in the summer, and enjoys a well-earned rest in the winter while the bears are in hibernation. Trine explains how she feels a strong emotional connection to this beautiful and remote corner of Arctic Norway, that has been her family home for generations. With only her parents and Russia for neighbours, she is surrounded by a remarkable expanse of wild untouched beauty.
