Bell Pass DH - McDowell Mountain - Fountain Hills, AZ
Bell Pass DH - McDowell Mountain - Fountain Hills, AZ
One of the longer descents in the greater Phoenix area, however, fast and flowy it is not. It’s also a pain to get to. The view from the top is rewarding, though, and if you don’t mind a slower paced descent with a lot of chunk, it’s not too bad. Also, this is about the only downhill in the valley that actually gives me those arm pump feels. Sorry for the length on this one but I wanted to share most of trail on this one...the video cuts out at the end as the descent starts to mellow out. I climbed up Windgate Pass and then over to Bell Pass but honestly, if I did this again, I'd just hike up Bell Pass as it'd probably be faster.

FR 27, Back way to Mt. Ord - Fountain Hills, Arizona, US
This trail is often referred to as, The Back way to Mt. Ord. It is a very scenic climb through part of the Tonto National Forest to the top of Mt. Ord. The route is narrow, tight, windy, and rough in sections. There are also some minor washouts that will catch your attention. A high clearance 4x4 can likely conquer the climb to the top of the mountain but 4x4 is recommended in inclement weather.

Mount Ord highlights (Arizona scenic drive / off-road trail)
Subscribe for more scenic Arizona overlanding and off-road routes.
Mount Ord is a beautiful drive that's easily accessible from the Beeline (SR87) between Phoenix and Payson. This up-and-back trip reveals some amazing views Tonto National Forest. This is one trip everyone should try at some point.
From Arizona Highways:
Some scenic drives require a certain amount of commitment. Whether it’s time, vehicle requirements or sheer guts, you often have to give a little in order to get Arizona’s spectacular views in return. Fortunately, the drive to Mount Ord is the exception. No sacrifice is required. In fact, this drive is more about bang than buck, so to speak. The views are breathtaking, the trip itself is quick and the fist-clenching moments are few and far between. Really, this drive is ideal for out-of-town visitors on the go — or in-laws in need of entertainment.
From Fountain Hills, take State Route 87 (the Beeline Highway) northeast toward Payson. Turn right (east) at the clearly marked turnoff for Mount Ord, Forest Road 626, near Milepost 223. The road goes from pavement to graded dirt in a matter of seconds. Although it’s well maintained, there are a few bumps in this road, and a standard SUV is your best bet. In inclement weather, a high-clearance vehicle is an absolute must.
Heading uphill, it isn’t long before you’ll be treated to gorgeous views of the Mazatzal Mountains. Tight switchbacks and no guardrail give thrill-seekers a temporary rush as the road climbs steadily — steeply in some parts.
At Mile 1.6, there’s room to pull over and enjoy the beauty. Despite how easily accessible FR 626 is, it’s remarkably quiet. There’s only the hum of Mother Nature in the air. In less than a mile, the landscape — dotted with scrub oaks, piñon pines and agaves — dramatically shifts, and you’ll be lost in a forest of pine trees.
As the road continues to climb, a real “wow” moment occurs near the 3-mile mark. A dramatic, panoramic view of the Mogollon Rim reveals itself, and from this vantage point, you can clearly see the sheer cliff face that is the southernmost edge of the Colorado Plateau. It’s an impressive sight that will leave even the most impatient passenger in awe.
Continuing on, the road eventually hugs the back of the mountainside, where you’ll be treated to another amazing view: Roosevelt Lake, which looks like a glittering shard of glass from this elevation. The end of the road comes at Mile 6.1. A metal gate blocks the road to the very top of Mount Ord, where several communication towers are located. Only authorized vehicles are allowed to continue on. Return the way you came. The drive back to State Route 87 moves quicker than the climb up, so proceed with caution — you never know who or what is right around the next switchback. As you reach the highway, take a moment to gloat, especially if you’re playing tour guide for the day.
Payson Arizona Driving Tour
Driving around the town of Payson Arizona. We check out the antique store drive the main streets and then head north towards the Mogollon Rim. We also check out some of the neighborhoods around Payson and the Real Estate market.
Living in Arizona is quite a unique experience because of the vastness that the state offers. From the Sonoran Desert in the south to the high country in the north all the way up towards the Four Corners east and the Grand Canyon in the west. Known as the Grand Canyon state, Arizona is diverse in many ways. The state tree is the Palo Verde, the state cactus is the Saguaro, the state bird is the Cactus wren. Arizona/Utah Roadtrip Pt. 1 - Glen Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon, Lake Powell Travel Vlog
WanderLost Vlog #28: Arizona/Utah Road Trip Pt. 1 - Glen Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon, Lake Powell Travel Vlog [HD]
The U.S. is filled with such raw beauty with remarkable terrain ever changing from sea to shining sea. The rugged interior is no exception. What an amazing and inspiring drive to through the states of Nevada, Arizona, and Utah. For this Vlog, I travel to Arizona in the American Southwest Region. First up is Glen Canyon Dam, a 710 foot (220 m) high hydroelectric dam was built in 1966 and forms Lake Powell. The dam is named for Glen Canyon, a series of deep sandstone gorges. Next is Antelope Canyon was formed by erosion of a reddish Navajo Sandstone. The striations of the sandstone in contrast with the reflecting light make this Canyon a photographic gem. Afterwards we head to the Glen Canyon Overlook to enjoy a wonderful sunrise view of the immense system of canyons carved by the Colorado River and its tributaries. The iconic Horseshoe Bend follows where one can gaze upon a perfect horseshoe-shaped incised meander of the Colorado River. Lastly we head to an Overlook by Lake Powell which is the second largest man-made lake in the US and without doubt one of the most scenic.

ROAD TRIP VLOG: NEW MEXICO, ARIZONA AND UTAH
Talk about an epic road trip in the United States. This road trip took us 9 days and 8 nights.
Day one we drove all night from Texas to New Mexico and arrived at White Sands National Monument a couple hours before closing which is at sunset. We had plenty of time to enjoy climbing the sand dunes, sand boarding down the dunes and doing one of the gorgeous hikes while watching the sunset. After the hike we headed to a very unique Airbnb that was actually a shipping container in Las Cruces.
Day 2 we spend all day driving to Arizona and found a cheap hotel to sleep in.
Day three first thing in the morning we got up and looked up directions to Antelope canyon. We couldn’t decide between the upper and the lower canyon but we went with the lower for the fact that its move active on social media. After exploring the lower canyon, we made our way to Horse Shoe Bend. Having planned our day full of activities we planned to go to The Wave afterwards but when we looked it up we found out you have to make reservations months in advance or win a lottery the morning of. It was kind of a bummer so we decided to drive to Utah and take a photo where Forest Gump ran on highway US 163 in front of Monument Valley. When we got there, the sun was starting to set behind the monument and unfortunately it made for a bad photo. We didn't get our Forest Gump photo but we were able to drive on the other side of the monument before the sun set and it still looked pretty amazing. We should have gotten a hotel so we could head to Zion national park in the morning but we ended up going back to the hotel in Arizona and staying another night so we could see the upper antelope cannon.
Day four we went to see the upper Antelope canyon and drove to Zion. Zion national park had so much for us to see. We definitely wish we had more time there and have to plan a trip back. We were able to fit in the lookout and hike up to Angels Landing in our little time we had left. Note for next time bring hiking shoes because it's not the best idea to hike in running shoes. We still ended up hiking a little of what we could at Angles Landing before it got dark and we couldn't make it back down. We drove straight from Zion to Las Vegas and got a room at the Cosmopolitan. Talk about a great view from our room of the Bellagio fountains. We spent the night out in Vegas at Hakkasan.
Day five we got breakfast at the Wicked Spoon then dessert at black tap. We didn't have enough time but also wanted to do desert dune buggies. We left from there and headed straight to Los Angeles. The weather was terrible for the weekend. Pouring rain, so we didn't get to do the things we had in mine. We planned on going to Mumm Napa and doing the patio and sparkling wine tasting then hitting up some cute dessert spots. Luckily Meli and her boyfriend had friends in Los Angeles so our day wasn't ruined.
Day six we ended up going to their friends house who was having a super bowl party in the Hollywood Hills. Oh if your in LA don't forget to get breakfast at Blu Jam Cafe. We also tried The Waffle that was pretty good as well. Of corse we did the whole LA night life as well. We ended up staying an extra day sense San Francisco was still pouring rain. Day eight We drove to San Francisco and just got dinner at Poggio Trattoria then knocked out at a cute boutique called Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa. We dropped Meli car off that morning then got a flight back to Houston on day nine.
