Arrow Rock Missouri | RV Life
In this episode we are camping at Arrow Rock State Park! We visited the historic towns of Arrow Rock and Blackwater and Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site in Missouri. It was a jam packed and super fun weekend!
The campground is fantastic and we lucked out to get the only full hook up spot. The Visitor's Center has a great museum and is right along the path to the old western town of Arrow Rock. We even got to attend their Night at the Museum event which featured history come to life as actors played the parts of historical figures from the town's past as a primary trail head for the Sante Fe Trail.
We also got the pleasure of visiting another historic old western town, Blackwater, MO. We ended up being there a little too early for many of the shops, but history of the town was on display everywhere and was incredible to take in.
The next day, we were detoured by flooding and ended up visiting Bothwell Lodge near Sedalia, MO. Katie has been dying to seeing this place, with it's fantastic and unique architecture. We couldn't get any video of the interior, but check the blog and our Instagram feed for tons of pictures.
It was a fantastic trip, we all learned so much about the important part western Missouri played in supplying the Old West with important resources. They do a fall festival in October and we are going to try and get back there for that!

We are Katie and Scott, travelers, adventurers, seeking a life of full time RV living with our youngest kid and our crazy dog. Right now we're still at the planning stages, getting ready for fulltime RV life while our older kids finish up school and get settled on their own.
We've started our lives over about 6 years ago, getting married and combining forces into the awesome family of 6 we have now! So in many ways we get to do everything all over again, this time with the benefit of being older and wiser. We plan to home school the little one as we go on the road full time for a few years, then find a place to settle down and call home.
We're still trying to figure out what we're doing with this whole camping and RV life thing and you all get to join us as we learn how to organize our space and downsize all our junk. We're trying to embrace this minimalist lifestyle as well as learn how to use as these great camping and RV products that are out there.
We put out weekly videos ranging from product reviews, RV tips and tricks, how to videos, 5th wheel and travel trailer tours, recipes and of course our RV family travel videos. We hope you''ll subscribe and join us each week!

Sappington Cemetery State Historic Site
Join me on a visit to the Sappington Cemetery State Historic Site! Located a few miles southwest of Arrow Rock, Missouri.
From the sign..
“Sappington Cemetery is the burial place for Dr. John and Jane Sappington, patriarch and matriarch of one of Missouri’s most influential families before the American Civil War (1861-1865). The 111 burials in this cemetery are direct or extended family members of the Sappingtons. The eastern red cedar trees predate the cemetery’s founding in 1831. Their evergreen nature serves as a reminder of eternal life. The stone wall and iron picket fence were built in 1858.
Dr. John Sappington (1776-1856) was born in Virginia. In 1804, he married Jane Breathitt (1783-1852), who was from a prominent Kentucky family. By 1819, they had settled in Saline County, Missouri. His family achieved prominence and wealth through his business and medical enterprises. In 1832, he experimented with the bark of the Peruvian cinchona tree, which was known for its fever-reducing qualities. From that bark, he isolated a compound called quinine, which he massmarketed in pill form to treat malarial fevers. An education fund started by the doctor continues today as a college scholarship.
His inscription reads “A truly honest man is the noblest work of God. He lay like a warrior taking his rest.” Her inscription reads “Mrs. Jane Sappington consort of Dr. John Sappington.”
Sappington Negro Cemetery
Around 1856, Sappington gave two acres of land to Emanuel Banks, an enslaved man, to be used as a cemetery. From the mid-19th century to mid-20th century, about 350 African-Americans from the Arrow Rock area were buried in that cemetery.
A Family Dynasty
The Sappington family dynasty included three Missouri governors. Two are buried here.
Meredith Miles Marmaduke (1791-1864) was elected Lt. Governor in 1840 and became Missouri’s eighth governor upon the death of Gov. Thomas Reynolds in 1844. Marmaduke was a Santa Fe trader from 1824 to 1830 and was married to Dr. John Sappington’s daughter Lavinia in 1826. Their son, John Sappington Marmaduke, became Missouri’s 25th governor in 1885. Unlike many of his family members, Meredith Marmaduke supported the Union during the American Civil War.

The arch symbolizes victory over death victory over death and the clasped hands a farewell and a hope of meeting in eternity. The Masonic compass signifies his membership status as a Freemason.
Claiborne Fox Jackson (1806-1862) was beginning his term as Missouri’s 15th governor at the start of the American Civil War. Jackson supported slavery and the secession of Missouri from the United States. He died while in exile in Little Rock, Ark., and was reburied here following the war. Jackson married three of Dr. Sappington’s daughters in succession: Jane in 1831 (died 1832), Louisa in 1833 (died 1838), and Eliza in 1838 (died 1864.)

The classical style columns symbolize “noble qualities” attributed to the life of the Jacksons.
John Sappington Marmaduke (1833-1887) was elected as Missouri’s 25th governor in 1885. Prior to winning the election, he played a major role in the American Civil War. He is buried at the Woodland-Old City Cemetery in Jefferson City, Missouri.”

Finger Lakes State Park
Finger Lakes State Park
Finger Lakes State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Missouri consisting of 1,128 acres in Boone County near the city of Columbia. The park is unusual in that the site was reclaimed after having been strip mined for coal. Between 1964 and 1967 the area was known as Peabody Coal's Mark Twain Mine, from which the company removed 1.2 million short tons of coal. Peabody donated the land to the state for use as a park, and the state restored the site with one of a dozen federal grants issued with the intent to demonstrate the conversion of strip-mined land to recreational use.

How to Identify Ancient stone Indian artifacts through pecking and grinding
This video talks about the how the Ancient inhabitants did pecking and grinding in order to craft hard stones into tools. Understanding the methods used helps to identify Ancient Indian artifacts that were made thousands of years ago on the American continent, the United States in particular. This is to help distinguish the difference between the more commonly recognized flint type tools and weapons from the more hard stone tools made from basalt, granite and other non-brittle stones.

Wandering Walk through Watkins Mill State Park
This week's video is a Wandering Walk through Watkins Mill State Park and Historic site in Lawson, MO.
Stepping on to the grounds of Watkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site is like stepping into 19th century. Many of the buildings that Waltus Watkins spent half a century building – including an elegant home and a three-story woolen mill – have been preserved to give walkers a sense of life in the 1870s. The mill is the only 19th century textile mill in the United States with its original machinery still intact.
Throughout the park are beautiful trails along streams and great views of a gorgeous lake.

Video of Cooper Creek Resort and RV Park, MO from Aaron W.
Aaron W.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Nice little campground
Right on Cooper Creek “lake/river.” Shaded campsites, options for full hookup and very friendly staff. Cool they communicate via txt msg. Great fishing and the opportunity to rent boats for an affordable rate. Only downfall is no access to Table Rock. If we visit Branson again this is where we will stay. 5 minutes from the strip.
