Granada, Spain: The Exquisite Alhambra
More info about travel to Granada: Granada's dominant sight is the Alhambra, the last and greatest Moorish palace. For two centuries, until 1492, Granada reigned as the capital of a dwindling Moorish empire. As Christian forces pushed the Moors farther and farther south, this palace was the last hurrah of a sophisticated civilization.

10 Things to do in Granada, Spain Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Wrapping up our travels in Spain, our last city to visit was Granada. Set in Andalusia at the foot of the snow capped Sierra Nevada, this is a place where Moorish influence is palpable. From hilltop fortresses to Moroccan markets, and tranquil gardens to quaint teahouses, in this travel guide we’re going to show you some of the things you can do in Granada:
This Cathedral was as grand as you’d expect. The stark white interiors were a bit of a contrast to the ornate churches we had seen in other cities, but that just made your eyes travel towards a glowing, golden altar.
The Moroccan souk turned out to be one of our favourite spots in the city. The street was packed with tiny shops standing shoulder to shoulder, all filled with leather handbags, glass lamps, wool slippers, colourful scarves and pashminas and souvenirs.
We continued our way up the hill into Albayzín. This is one of the oldest centres of Muslim culture in Granada. The neighbourhood is a maze of narrow cobbled streets, white-houses with tiled roofs, and small courtyards sprinkled in between.
We made time to stop at one of the teterías, or teahouses. This was the perfect place to rest on a cold winter day and enjoy some afternoon treats.
You can find numerous Moroccan restaurants in this part of the city for food. One place we ate at on more than once occasion was Al-Faguara. They offered set menus for lunch featuring hummus, falafel, couscous, tajine, and of course, lots of baklava.
Let’s take a moment to talk about Granada’s main tourist attraction: the Alhambra!
The Alhambra is a massive complex of palaces, gardens and fortresses that once formed the citadel of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, which was the last Muslim dynasty to rule along the Iberian Peninsula from the years 1230 to 1492.
This is the one attraction you can’t miss when you visit Granada, and you’ll want to book your tickets well in advance as they can sell out during high season.
We spent half a day touring the grounds during which time we visited the Nasrid Palaces, the Palace of Charles the Fifth, the Alcazaba, and the Generalife.
We decided to find a cafe where we could indulge in a delicious Spanish breakfast.
Another spot we explored in Granada is Carrerra del Darro, a small lane that runs along the Darro River at the base of the Alhambra. This street is lined with arched-stone bridges and historic buildings.
We’ll leave you with a few scenes of Granada at night and one last glimpse of the Alhambra lit up against the evening sky.
We hope you enjoyed this video and that you got ideas of things do in Granada on your own visit.
This is part of our Travel in Spain video series showcasing Spanish food, Spanish culture and Spanish cuisine.

Visiting Alhambra in Granada, Spain
Come join us as we visit the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. Some places or attractions you visit don't live up to the hype; however, the Alhambra (الْحَمْرَاء) certainly does and having an opportunity to see its splendor from afar and up close is one of the greatest travel moment we've experienced in recent memory. As impressive as the Alhambra is from certain lookout points in Granada it is once you enter its grounds up close and person that you have a real appreciation for the intricate details and sheer size of the place. Our biggest suggestion when visiting the Alhambra (الْحَمْرَاء) is to give yourself plenty of time to take it all in. It is an attraction that is so impressive and massive that spending anything less than half a day does not do it justice.

Visiting Alhambra in Granada, Spain Travel Video Transcript:
Good morning guys. As you can tell from the way we are dressed it is fill in the blank cold this morning. We're really excited to be exploring the Alhambra here in Granada. We are up bright and early. We sure are. We have tickets for 10 am to visit the Nasrid Palaces but we've come in early. We're going to have a look around visit the gardens. There is two reasons why we decided to come so early this morning. And it was actually minus temperatures this morning. That is why I'm dressed the way we are. We have our hats, we have our toques and we have our scarves on. Apparently there is the best light in the morning. And you beat the crowds a little bit. Let's do this.
The Alhambra is one of the most impressive sights in all of Spain and it receives over 2 million tourists every year. This complex of palaces, gardens and fortresses once formed the citadel that was part of the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, which was the last Muslim dynasty to rule along the Iberian Peninsula from the years 1230 to 1492.
The Nasrid Palaces are a collection of rooms, courtyards, and spaces that were used for business, administration, and for private living quarters.
The architecture is characterized by its carved arabic inscriptions, its intricate cedar wood ceilings, and its colourful tiles arranged in geometric patterns.
Inside the Nasrid Palaces, we visited the Court of the Myrtles, whose key feature is a pool fed by two marble fountains. Not only did this help cool the palace, but it also acted as a symbol of power since water was usually in short supply.
From there we continued to the Hall of Ambassadors, which is the largest room in the Alhambra (الْحَمْرَاء). This was the grand reception room where the sultan’s throne was located. One of the most impressive aspects of this room is the carved wooden ceiling, which is a representation of the Seven Heavens of the Islamic Paradise.
Our next stop was the Palace of Charles the V, which stands out from the rest of the constructions at the Alhambra (الْحَمْرَاء). Construction of this palace was ordered by Charles the V who was Holy Roman Emperor at the time. He wanted to establish his residence close to the Alhambra palaces, though there is no evidence he ever lived here.
There was still plenty left to see in the Alhambra (الْحَمْرَاء), so our next stop was the Alcazaba. This is the oldest part of the Alhambra (الْحَمْرَاء) which was built as a stronghold for surveillance and defence. We climbed up the two towers, which offer some of the best views of Granada.
And that’s pretty much a wrap for our visit to the Alhambra (الْحَمْرَاء). We only spent a half day touring the grounds, but you could easily spend a full day there - especially if you visit in the spring or summer once the gardens are already in bloom. Our parting tips for the Alhambra are to visit with plenty of time, and to wear comfortable shoes because you will be walking around a lot! That’s it for now, and we’ll see you in the next video.
This is part of our Travel in Spain video series showcasing Spanish food, Spanish culture and Spanish cuisine.

Travelling in Spain - Exploring Granada
Granada is a beautiful city in Spain, approximately 1 hour from the coast and is full or history, nature, architecture and art.
I spent 24 hours exploring Granada and I absolutely loved it.
There are many things to do, such as viewing how people live in the caves, taking free tapas with every drink you order, walking through pebble stone streets, viewing the whole city with gorgeous sunsets, partying with the locals, language exchanges, enjoying the fashion through the small streets in the city, and much more!
I stayed at Oasis Hostel which is just 5 minutes away from a popular viewing point of La Alhambra, and just a 5 minute walk from the main gran via which passes through the city centre.
I also took part in an graffiti and cave tour through Granada Street Art and Caves Tour, through Oasis Hostel.
I will definitely be back to this lovely city as there is much more for me to see and many more hidden secrets to be discovered.
The best thing from the whole trip has to be the 1-2 euro beer, which always came with a free tapas. Tapas are traditional plates of food that are always given for free as a side ‘nibble’ with your drink. (Not all parts of Spain give you tapas for free) so make sure to do it the traditional way and get it for free!!

Flamenco at Taller de Arte Vimaambi Granada, Spain
One of my best memories traveling through Spain is playing with these wonderful musicians, singers and dancers in Granada, including David Heredia - a masterful guitarist who blends jazz, Indian ragas and other musical styles to create an exciting fusion and Gema Contreras - a powerful young singer who is a flamenco force.
THE BEST NON-TOURISTY FLAMENCO SHOW IN GRANADA! | Top Things To Do In GRANADA! | VLOG 100
100. Finally, our first full day where we spend exploring Granada, Spain! We go about with a full day of exploration by first visiting the Granada Cathedral, which has both Gothic and Moorish influences. Next up, we visit Casa de Zafra, a historic home with preserved elements of Moorish descent. After walking up to the Mirador de San Nicolas, we then had some of the most amazing strawberry gazpacho at Jardines de Zoraya! The food was incredible! Then after a siesta, we spent the evening watching the BEST FLAMENCO SHOW in Granada! This isn't one of those very touristy ones in found at the Sacramonte Caves...this one was so intense with dancers that danced with so much passion! We were able to record only the end of the show (which consisted of more of a basic dance). But I highly recommend you check out Casa del Arte Flamenco for some amazing flamenco shows!
