Huge Show Announcement: Kidd Pivot's Revisor coming to St. John's!
The Arts and Culture Centre, Neighbourhood Dance Works and Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland have come together to bring Kidd Pivot’s Revisor to the province!
We started chatting and collectively dreaming about the possibility of pooling our resources to bring St. John’s a show that serve all of our audiences, something big and exciting and once in a lifetime, and we all instantly had an artist in mind. Kidd Pivot.
Revisor is a theatre dance hybrid, it’s fierce, it’s funny, it’s a farce, it’s cutting edge visuals, it’s some of the best dancers in the world working with one of the best choreographers. It’s wild, imaginative, adventurous, and fun. It’s been called “full body lip synch.”
Revisor just premiered in Vancouver in February and already it has been booked for presentation on three continents and we here in St. Johns, lucky us, are going to get the only planned Atlantic Canadian performance. It is playing for one night only, February 14, 2020, at the St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre.
Early Bird tickets are on sale now! artsandculturecentre.com/stjohns/online/article/KiddPivot2019

The Velveteen Rabbit - Canada's Ballet Jörgen NL Tour
Dancers from Canada's Ballet Jörgen bring to life this renowned story of a young boy and his love for a stuffed rabbit that eventually comes to life. Written by Margery Williams, The Velveteen Rabbit was the most popular of her thirty children’s books and focuses on the importance of friendship, love and the discovery of what is real. As the wise character Skin Horse says, “Real isn’t how you are made. It’s the thing that happens to you. When a child really loves you for a long, long time... then you become real.”
The Velveteen Rabbit was a favorite children’s story for choreographer Kathleen Rea. She has created a fairy tale work that she hopes will teach children that it’s what’s on the inside of you that’s most important.”
Join us for this #ACCPresents show, as Canada's Ballet Jörgen brings the story of The Velveteen Rabbit to life.

Simeon Dredge (Evan Mercer) is cutting cords for the first time. Ambitious and young, he has no concept of what working in the woods will entail. Brother-in-law Albert Taylor (Darryl Hopkins) is forever crushing Sim's fantasies. “No one gets rich cutting wood”.
When word spreads that Harold Jacobs (Brian Marler), a Government representative, has been sent to investigate the notoriously poor conditions in the lumber camps, Albert fears that Sim's naiveté and ambition will cause him to speak out and forever be branded a troublemaker.
The CEO of the island's largest paper company, Stewart Percy (Greg Malone), is worried that Jacobs will stir up a rebellion amongst his labour force. Percy will not allow his family legacy to be threatened by an upstart politician and the great unwashed.
The political lobbying and backroom bargains made in Falling Trees will set in motion a cycle of exploitation that threatens the fabric of a society for a century.

Luca “Lazylegz” Patuelli has lived by the “No Excuses, No Limits” motto his whole life. Immediately, he was attracted to the music, the culture and, of course, to the challenging movements. He slowly began creating a unique style that took advantage of his upper body strength. By using his crutches as extensions of his arms, Bboy Lazylegz was born!
Offering a charismatic, interactive, and dynamic presentation on his own successes and failures, Luca describes how perseverance got him to where he is today. Matt Andersen with Cory Tetford - NL Tour
The Arts and Culture Centres are excited to present MATT ANDERSEN in his first provincial tour of Newfoundland and Labrador. St. John’s audiences will remember Andersen from past performances at the Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival, as well as a solo show at the St. John’s ACC in 2015.
We are excited to announce that joining Andersen on this #ACCPresents tour is Newfoundland’s own Cory Tetford. Cory has been busy touring in Alan Doyle’s band and recently did a very successful run of shows in the province, called NL Songwriters also featuring Chris LeDrew, Paul Lamb and Barry Canning.
From the first notes of “Weightless” to the slow-dying roar of the crowd as the last licks of “Devil’s Bride” squeal out, his latest live record Matt Andersen and the Mellotones Live at Olympic Hall is a rollicking, sizzling night of Andersen’s thunderous voice and hot guitar playing mashed up with the ten-piece force of nature that is the Mellotones, all captured at a historic dance hall in downtown Halifax.
Andersen notes that for artists who don’t get a lot of radio play, “live music is vital.” And more than that, he says, “I think it’s a basic connection, to be part of that energy going on. I just wish everyone could come to a live show. It’s the best way to hear music for sure.”
With over 10 million views on YouTube, two European Blues Awards, and winning Best Solo Performer at the Memphis Blues Challenge, it appears that the entire world is now discovering Matt Andersen. A powerhouse performer with a giant soul-filled voice and commanding stage presence, Matt has built a formidable following the old-fashioned way – touring worldwide and letting the converted audiences and Andersen devotees spread his reputation through word of mouth.
In addition to headlining major festivals, clubs and theatres throughout North America, Europe and Australia, he has shared the stage and toured with Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy, Greg Allman, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Randy Bachman, Little Feat, Jonny Lang, Serena Ryder, and more.
Andersen has won the 2013 and 2016 European Blues Award for Best Solo/Acoustic Act, three Maple Blues Awards in 2012, and nabbed him 2010 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Since the release of Weightless in early 2014, Andersen has received a JUNO nomination for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year, a CIMA Road Gold award, and six Maple Blues Awards for Male Vocalist of the Year.
Tickets for Matt Andersen with special guest Cory Tetford at the Arts and Culture Centres are $35 each and can be purchased online at artsandculturecentre.com or at local theatre box offices.
