Asahikawa is the second largest city in Hokkaido after Sapporo, located at the northeast Sapporo. It has Asahikawa Winter Festival which is held every year in February.

Asahikawa Winter Festival Activities (旭川冬祭りのアクティビティー)
One can enjoy many great ice sculptures at the Asahikawa Winter Festival but one should think of body-warming activities first. You must experience the excitement of the Bunbun Slider over the frozen snow!

Today was such a freezing cold day but I finally got to see the Penguins up close! And the ice festival was really fun except for the fact that I couldn't feel my fingers and toes!

A trip to the Asahikawa Winter Festival
The train journey was lovely, with the freezing snowy scene unfolding whilst I sat in my reclining seat, effortlessly enjoying the vistas.
Once in Asahikawa I strolled around the town, if you can use the word stroll when walking in thick shifting icy snow one minute and then stepping down inches onto a clear pavement another. By the way, I discovered the reason for this. There is under-pavement heating but of course it is expensive so either not every shop has installed it or if they have, they do not necessarily use it.
The main street was full of ice blocks with signs declaiming interesting sounding themes, and here and there was a sculptor with a saw but as yet there weren’t any actual sculptures! This section is a competition between artists, presumably to be carved tomorrow. Oh well, you can’t see everything.
As you will see on the attached video, I did discover a street lined with snow-men, everyone an individual which (who?) seemed to be entrants in a snow-man competition.
One ambitious shopkeeper was fashioning an igloo as I passed, presumably to be inhabited when completed by snowmen.
I decided that it was time to seek out the Ice Festival Grounds where the ice sculptures were, and after following street signs for some time and getting no nearer to my destination, I got out my phone for Google maps.
I feel I could just cut and paste the next part. “Walked miles, went round in circles. Finally asked a friendly local. Said local then turned round, walked a long way with me until my destination was in clear sight, and then returned from whence he came.”
And so I found the Asahikawa Winter Festival which seemed to me to have more sculptures than the Sapporo one, but that may be because they are all together in an otherwise empty patch of land, so obviously I saw them all, whilst I may well be missing some of Sapporo’s.
I noticed there was actually a shuttle bus back to the station but now that I had my bearings I decided to walk as it was only about a km and a half away and I was in no hurry.
Spotted a permanent statue or two half hidden in the snow, had a very pleasant walk back, wandered round a shop at the station, picked up some snacks, and returned from whence I came.

There was a cold snap, with the daytime temperature around -13c. During the evening it got to -20c at time of filming

Hari ke 3 kita menuju ke asahikawa winter festival dan rencana menggunakan bus tetapi karena cuaca yg buruk akhirnya pilihan nya kita menggunakan shinkansen dan menghabiskan biaya yang lebih besar.sesampainya di asahikawa cuaca semakin buruk sampai di mana kejadian saat sedang melakukan recording tiba2 camera mati total dan tidak bisa di hidupkan hingga suhu camera kembali normal.semoga kalian bisa menikmati keseruan nya di video ini.enjoy????

Japan Trip: The Other Hokkaido Snow Festival, Asahikawa Winter Festival, Hokkaido 16
Ranking number two behind Sapporo’s Snow Festival, the Asahikawa Winter Festival (旭川冬まつり) is Hokkaido's second largest winter festival. Because the Asahikawa Winter Festival takes place around the same time as the Sapporo Snow Festival in early February, it is possible for Hokkaido visitors to experience both of the festivals. Sapporo and Asahikawa are located only 80 minutes (by train) apart.
Though Asahikawa may not be have Hokkaido's biggest winter festival, it has one of the biggest snow sculptures. Each year one humongous sculpture is made as a stage for musical and other performances. In 1994, the giant sculpture of a Korean fortress was designated by the Guinness World Records as the largest snow construction built. The theme of this huge sculpture changes every year. In 2010 it was a snowman castle and in the 2011, it was the Daisetsuzan Mountains.
The festival has two sites. The giant snow sculpture is located at the riverside Asahibashi Site. Visitors can also enjoy several smaller snow sculptures, snow slides, snowmobile rides, horse drawn sleigh rides and an ice bar at this site. The festival’s opening and closing ceremonies are also held at the Asahibashi Site.
The Heiwa Dori pedestrian street is the festival’s other site. This street is a roughly one kilometer road from Asahikawa Station to Asahibashi Bridge (where the Asahibashi Site is located). The ice sculpture competition’s ice sculptures entries are on display at the Heiwa Dori Site. In the evening the sculptures are illuminated, bringing their beauty to a new light.
With the Heiwa Dori pedestrian zone leading visitors from Asahikawa Station through the town, visitors can wander around and enjoy the festival. It will take about 10 to 15 minutes to walk to Asahibashi Site. However, there are free shuttle buses from the station to the Asahibashi Site during the week-long festival as well. There is 1 bus every 20 minutes during this period.
