Crossing Cultures: Transforming the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, UNITED KINGDOM
The first institution ever called a museum has been given a new, extraordinarily inventive interpretation as part of the major refurbishment and re-conceptualisation of the museum. In keeping with its scientific heritage, it turned to its users and their way of reading documents of the past, making knowledge speak the language of life. The new quality in architecture, design and communication has received considerable support and resulted in the tripling of the number of visitors. While remaining free of charge, it has significantly increased its commercial income, accounting for a quarter of its budget. This new strategy has raised the Ashmolean to the forefront of its profession.

Hello everyone...
The Ashmolean Museum (in full the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology) on Beaumont Street, Oxford, England, is the world's first university museum. Its first building was erected in 1678–1683 to house the cabinet of curiosities that Elias Ashmole gave to the University of Oxford in 1677. The museum reopened in 2009 after a major redevelopment. In November 2011, new galleries focusing on Egypt and Nubia were also unveiled.

Treasures from the palace of Aegae in Greece are being shown to the public in Oxford.
More than 500 gold, silver and bronze exhibits from a royal tomb have gone on display at Oxford's Ashmolean Museum.
They were discovered in the ancient palace of Aegae in Greece.
On display is a delicate golden wreath of myrtle flowers. Some of the finds date to the early Iron Age (1000 - 700 BC).
Macedonian art specialist, Dr Angeliki Kottaridi, said: This exhibition is the most important Greek cultural event in many years.
The exhibition in the new temporary galleries at the Ashmolean Museum is a collaboration with the Museum of the Royal Tombs at Aegae and the Hellenic Ministry of Culture And Tourism.
Dr Christopher Brown, director of the museum said: It is a tremendous honour for the Ashmolean to be the first place where people can see the latest discoveries from Aegae.

Ashmolean Museum - Oxford ????????
Welcome to My Museum
It's easy to confuse the Pitt Rivers Museum and the Natural History Museum - two veritable institutions under one roof. In this imagined meeting between the museums' founders, Lieutenant-General Augustus Henry Lane Fox Pitt-Rivers and Sir Henry Acland - two Victorian gents with competing sideburns and distinguished careers in their respective fields of anthropology and science - we learn a little bit more about how and why they came to establish these great repositories, how the collections complement one another, and join the debate over who has the best exhibit - is it a porcupine fish helmet or a terrifying dinosaur?
