YANGON RELIGIOUS BUILDINGS TOUR - MYANMAR TRAVEL HIGHLIGHTS
When visiting Yangon, be sure to schedule a 2-3 hour guided walking tour of downtown Yangon. There are several guided tour operators and tour options. There are also self-guided walking routes you can find online. However, a walking tour led by someone familiar with the city includes a lot of context and insights that you might miss on your own. We enjoyed a religious buildings guided tour by the Yangon Heritage Trust.

The New Face of Yangon
After the British colonial period and decades of military government rule, Myanmar has finally begun to show its smile to the outside world, and is growing at an alarming rate. VICE traveled to Yangon, Myanmar's cultural capital to learn about the young people who have struggled in the transition period of the country. In this video, we look at Myanmar through the eyes of people who are changing the country's future: two bold girls from the rap group YAK, punks Skum and Kyaw Kyaw, internationally acclaimed artist Moe Satt, and Htet Myet Oo, a restaurant owner who loves his hometown. Faced with heavy history, a turbulent present but an optimistic future, what's really on the minds of the youth of Myanmar?

Great: Golden Shwedagon Pagoda by night, Rangoon Rangun Myanmar Burma Birma Birmanie Asia
Impressions of the wonderful Shwedagon pagoda in Rangoon/Yangon, Myanmar/Asia. If there is 1001 you have to see before you die, about 200 of them are in Myanmar - and the Shwedagon pagoda is one of the most interesting. Although it has got a quite touristic spot in recent years, the beauty of the golden stupas, the strong believe of the buddhism practicing people, the singing, the diamonds, the atmosphere are really overwhelming. Don't miss it!

Yangon is a former capital of Burma (Myanmar) and the capital of Yangon Region. Although the military government has officially relocated the capital to Naypyidaw since March 2006,Yangon, with a population of over five million, continues to be the country's largest city and the most important commercial centre.Although Yangon's infrastructure is undeveloped compared to those of other major cities in Southeast Asia, it has the largest number of colonial buildings in the region today. While many high-rise residential and commercial buildings have been constructed or renovated throughout downtown and Greater Yangon in the past two decades, most satellite towns that ring the city continue to be deeply impoverished.
Colonial Yangon, with its spacious parks and lakes and mix of modern buildings and traditional wooden architecture, was known as the garden city of the East. By the early 20th century, Yangon had public services and infrastructure on par with London. Before World War II, about 55% of Yangon's population of 500,000 was Indian or South Asian, and only about a third was Bamar (Burman). Karens, the Chinese, the Anglo-Burmese and others made up the rest.
Yangon's property market is the most expensive in the country and beyond the reach of most Yangonites. Most rent outside downtown and few can afford to rent downtown area apartments. (In 2008, rents for a typical 650-to-750-square-foot (60 to 70 m2) apartments in downtown and vicinity range between K70,000 and K150,000 and those for high end condos between K200,000 and K500,000.)
Most men of all ages (and some women) spend their time at ubiquitous tea-shops, found in any corner or street of the city. Watching European football (mostly English Premier League with occasional La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga) matches while sipping tea is a popular pastime among many Yangonites, rich and poor alike. The average person stays close to his or her neighbourhood haunts. The well-to-do tend to visit shopping malls and parks on weekends. Some leave the city on weekends for Chaungtha and Ngwesaung beach resorts in Ayeyarwady Division.
Yangon is also home to many pagoda festivals (paya pwe), held during dry-season months (November -- March). The most famous of all, the Shwedagon Pagoda Festival in March, attracts thousands of pilgrims from around the country.Yangon's museums are the domain of tourists and rarely visited by the locals.
Most of Yangon's larger hotels offer some kind of nightlife entertainment, geared towards tourists and the well-to-do Burmese. Some hotels offer traditional Burmese performing arts shows complete with a traditional Burmese orchestra. The pub scene in larger hotels is more or less the same as elsewhere in Asia. Other options include karaoke bars and pub restaurants in Yangon Chinatown.
Due to the problems of high inflation, the lack of high denomination notes, and the fact that many of the population do not have access to checks, or credit or debit cards, it is common to see citizens carrying a considerable amount of cash. (The highest denomination of Burmese currency kyat is 5000 (~US$5.)) Credit cards are only rarely used in the city, chiefly in the more lavish hotels.

Yangon the capital of Myanmar with the wonderful ShweDagon pagoda.
Yangon is the capital of Myanmar with as highlight the ShweDagon pagoda, one of the most fascinating conglomerations of Buddhist pagodas I have seen. It feels somewhere as the centre of the Buddhist Universe on this planet.
Close to the ShweDagon pagoda is Kandawgyi Lake, a very relaxing place in the midst of a busy city. It has a fairy tale floating restaurant and several other interesting tourist attractions.
The city center of Yangon is a combination of British colonial architecture, Buddhist stupas, Hindu temples and Muslim mosques. Yangon has several lively and colorful markets, also in the evening
If you take a hotel in the center all the attractions are at walking distance.

Shwedagon Pagoda, Myanmar in 4K (Ultra HD)
The Shwedagon Pagoda is the most impressive and sacred Buddhist site in Myanmar. The pagoda is claimed to be 2,600 years old, but according to the historians and archaeologists it was built between 6th and 10th centuries. It has been damaged by earthquakes on several occasions and later rebuilt and raised higher, to its current height of 99 meters/325 ft.
In the video: Early morning/Sunrise and late afternoon/Sunset views of the pagoda and the surrounding temples, stupas and shrines.

MYANMAR: EXPLORING the scenic STREET MARKETS in YANGON
#VicStefanu
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's visit the fascinating country of Myanmar (Burma) in Southeast Asia and let's go to Yangon, the country's largest city. Early in the morning, we will visit a street market close to the city's large port, very iconic images here. Yangon (formerly known as Rangoon) is the largest city in Myanmar (formerly Burma). A mix of British colonial architecture, modern high-rises and gilded Buddhist pagodas define its skyline. Its famed Shwedagon Paya, a huge, shimmering pagoda complex, draws thousands of pilgrims annually. The city's other notable religious sites include the Botataung and Sule pagodas, both housing Buddhist relics.
Myanmar (formerly Burma) is a Southeast Asian nation of more than 100 ethnic groups, bordering India, Bangladesh, China, Laos and Thailand. Yangon (formerly Rangoon), the country's largest city, is home to bustling markets, numerous parks and lakes, and the towering, gilded Shwedagon Pagoda, which contains Buddhist relics and dates to the 6th century.
