Glacier National Park is a national of Montana
Glacier National Park is a national park located in the U.S. state of Montana, on the Canada–United States border with the Canadian provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. The park encompasses over 1 million acres (4,000 km2) and includes parts of two mountain ranges (sub-ranges of the Rocky Mountains), over 130 named lakes, more than 1,000 different species of plants, and hundreds of species of animals. This vast pristine ecosystem is the centerpiece of what has been referred to as the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem, a region of protected land encompassing 16,000 square miles (41,000 km2).[3]
The region that became Glacier National Park was first inhabited by Native Americans. Upon the arrival of European explorers, it was dominated by the Blackfeet in the east and the Flathead in the western regions. Under pressure the Blackfoot ceded the mountainous parts of their treaty lands in 1895 to the federal government; it later became part of the park. Soon after the establishment of the park on May 11, 1910, a number of hotels and chalets were constructed by the Great Northern Railway. These historic hotels and chalets are listed as National Historic Landmarks and a total of 350 locations are on the National Register of Historic Places. By 1932 work was completed on the Going-to-the-Sun Road, later designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, which provided greater accessibility for automobiles into the heart of the park.
The mountains of Glacier National Park began forming 170 million years ago when ancient rocks were forced eastward up and over much younger rock strata. Known as the Lewis Overthrust, these sedimentary rocks are considered to have some of the finest fossilized examples of extremely early life found anywhere on Earth. The current shapes of the Lewis and Livingston mountain ranges and positioning and size of the lakes show the telltale evidence of massive glacial action, which carved U-shaped valleys and left behind moraines which impounded water, creating lakes. Of the estimated 150 glaciers which existed in the park in the mid-19th century, only 25 active glaciers remained by 2010.[4] Scientists studying the glaciers in the park have estimated that all the glaciers may disappear by 2030 if the current climate patterns persist.
Glacier National Park has almost all its original native plant and animal species. Large mammals such as the Grizzly bears, moose, and mountain goats, as well as rare or endangered species like the wolverines and Canadian lynxes, inhabit this park. Hundreds of species of birds, more than a dozen fish species, and a few reptile and amphibian species have been documented. The park has numerous ecosystems ranging from prairie to tundra. Notably, the easternmost forests of western redcedar and hemlock grow in the southwest portion of the park. Large forest fires are uncommon in the park. However, in 2003 over 13% of the park burned.[5]
Glacier National Park borders Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada—the two parks are known as the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park and were designated as the world's first International Peace Park in 1932. Both parks were designated by the United Nations as Biosphere Reserves in 1976, and in 1995 as World Heritage sites.[6][7] Please subscrible our channel to watch newest uploads.

Glacier National Park Montana Going To The Sun Road
Hey you guys! Thanks for joining me on another adventure. We are Glacier National Park in Montana this week, exploring the Going To The Sun Road. It is the first time in the park for each of us, and we are gob-smacked with the grandeur and beauty! The first part of the day started off cloudy, but it only enhanced some of the park's scenery. It felt like we were way high in the heavens with the jutting peaks and crawling clouds. When we stopped at the tunnel, April spoke with a young couple about what the must-do hike is, and they both said Avalanche Lake at the same time. Shortly before we got near the trail-head, we met painters Karen Robinson and her husband. They were setting up their canvases, so we told them we would stop back by after our hike to see how their paintings were coming along. (One tip I didn't include on film is to arrive at the trail-heads early, as parking is limited and fills up fast.) We started off on the Trail Of The Cedars, which is handicapped accessible. [This is what the website says about obtaining a disabled pass: A free, lifetime pass - available to U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States that have been medically determined to have a permanent disability (does not have to be a 100% disability) - that provides admittance to more than 2,000 recreation sites managed by five Federal agencies.] The Avalanche Lake hike was mostly right along Avalanche Falls, whose water color was a light glacier blue--it was amazing! Upon arriving at the lake, we were astounded at the surroundings. It was surreal. We decided to walk along the lake's edge to take it all in some more. You must get out there and see it for yourself; it is incredible!! After our hike, we stopped back by to see the painters. What talent they have! And Karen even had to make the best of an accidental mistake she made...that's the way to approach life. We ended up at Apgar at the edge of Lake McDonald for a picnic dinner of grilled hamburgers. That's where April spotted the horse in the water. We'd never seen such a thing in person before! It was so magical to watch. Finally, we arrived at the Brownies Hostel in East Glacier. The things we liked most about our time there was watching the sun set on their balcony and waking up to the smell (and April had a taste, of course) of the bakery downstairs making cinnamon rolls. This was definitely one of the best journeys we'd ever been on!

Two Medicine at Glacier National Park, Montana
Before the Going-to-the-Sun Road was constructed, Two Medicine was a primary destination for travelers arriving by train. After spending a night at Glacier Park Lodge, visitors climbed on horseback to travel to Two Medicine for a night in one of several rustic chalets or canvas tipis built by the Great Northern Railway. From Two Medicine, a system of backcountry tent camps and chalets within the park allowed these adventurous visitors to live in Glacier's wild interior.
Backpackers and dayhikers find this area rich in scenery, providing those willing to travel by foot into the mountains with a true wilderness experience. Tenderfeet can also venture off the roads and into the wild with a casual boat tour on Two Medicine Lake.
Today, Two Medicine has become a somewhat off-the-beaten-path discovery for most park visitors. Once discovered however it's easy to see why many people consider this their favorite part of Glacier National Park. Amazing vistas, extensive trails, crashing waterfalls, and sparkling lakes await.
For a live glimpse of the Two Medicine area, check out our Webcam page; we have a webcam pointed at the prominent peaks.

Glacier National Park: West Glacier to Logan Pass
Traveling the Going-to-the-Sun Road from West Glacier to Logan Pass is unforgettable. Your visual experiences will range from Lake McDonald Falls to Triple Arches and the Weeping Wall. The sight of mountain goats clinging to craggy peaks and grizzlies roaming their vast homeland leave you mesmerized. Every bend of this Road leads to another of seemingly limitless glory.
Extra Insight
Despite its short season, the wildflower display in Glacier National Park is dazzling. The western side is similar to the Pacific Northwest, where thick forests of cedar and hemlock give way to heather, gentian, bear grass and glacier lily. On the more arid eastern slopes, you're likely to spot pasque flower, lupine, Indian paintbrush, gaillardia, asters and shooting stars. The best time to see wildflowers is from late June through early August.

Mount Pilchuck - Washington State
Mount Pilchuck is one of Washington's favorite hiking peaks, and is easily accessible from Seattle and Everett. The old fire lookout on the summit was constructed in 1918 by the US Forest Service, and is only one of very few that still remains. Pilchuck comes from the Chinook language and translates as red water. Watching a sea of clouds as they dance and flow all around you can be mesmerizing, and a great way to spend an afternoon.

2019 Glacier National Park Video
Clips from a visit to Glacier National Park in northwestern Montana along the Canadian border. This video is all from the eastern side of the park. Going-to-the-Sun Road was closed beyond the Logan Pass Visitor's Center so that was as far into the park as we went. We hiked over 20 miles on the eastern side of the park including hikes up to Hidden Lake, St. Mary Falls, Virginia Falls and Baring Falls the first afternoon. We then moved south to the Two Medicine Area to hike to more waterfalls including Running Eagle Falls, Appistoki Falls, Aster Falls and Rockwell Falls. This park is amazing with some of the biggest mountain views I have ever seen! Filmed in September 2019.
