Graffiti and Streetart, Greek Kreuzberg, Athens - Greece 4K Travel Channel
Graffiti and Street art, two terms that are often mentioned in the same breath, but where are the differences, or is there none?
In Athens, we had the opportunity to learn more during the Greek Kreuzberg - Street Art Tour with Manolis Iliopoulos. Manolis has studied architecture, however, prefers the life as a freelance artist. Also a street artist, he is a connoisseur of the scene and offers guided tours for small groups.
Meeting place is the metro station Monastiraki. From there we go north-east to Psyri, a gentrified neighborhood in Athen. In the early 90s, Psyri was disreputable and it was not without dangers to stroll around here. Today it is an in-quarter with modern restaurants, bars, taverns and small hotels where more and more artists live.
There are various forms of graffiti and street art. These two forms are very different from each other. Graffiti includes as a central component letters that are artistically presented in different ways and with different techniques. Street art usually involves an image.
In the conversation with the graffiti artist Senor, whom we meet by chance, we discussed about the difference. For him, it is a question of the philosophy; graffiti always has to do with letters. The term Street art develops into a commercial name and has to do more and more with selling. Senor writes graffiti for more than 20 years, but not, to make money or to become famous. Nevertheless, his focus is on quality, not quantity. He earns his living with sculptures mixed with video art. Today, he still writes his graffiti with joy, it keeps him a bit a child, as he says. Later we had the opportunity to see a large graffiti, which he had created in four hours.
Talking to a shopkeeper of a graffiti accessories shop we could see that a part of the scene is still moving in a certain gray area.
During the tour, Manolis draws our attention to the painting techniques and how to recognize the different artists. The Russian-born artist Nar works with a black color from a tar-like products. It is applied quickly and wet streaks run down the wall. In the whole area, these drawings can be clearly identified and assigned to the artist.

Athens Red Light District Night Walk To Omonia: Is It Dangerous?
Athens Red Light District: This is a Saturday night walk in Athens Greece starting at Victoria Street metro station and walking to the Red Light Area on Filis Street. Then I walk to Acharnon Street towards Omonia Square. The Omonia area is not a good area to walk around at night. There are a lot of drugs, drug addicts, prostitutes and crime. I don't recommend that you walk around Omonia, especially at night. From Omonia Square I head to Athenas Street and see the Athens Beer Festival going on. I continue on Athenas Street to Monastiraki.

Greek Street Food in Athens, Greece: Gyros vs Souvlaki Travel Video Transcript:
So the sun is starting to set and dinner time is quickly approaching. We've been walking around the Athens flea market and we've worked up an appetite so right now we are stopping for some Greek food. We've found a little joint that is serving up Pita Souvlaki and Pita Gyro. So we've ordered up one of each. Ta da! Doesn't that look good? So yeah, ready for another taste test in Greece.
What do we call this in Greece vs back at home? Alright, so here's the deal. Over here it is called Gyros but where I grew up in Canada and also visiting in the US it was called gyro. So it is kind of hard for me to say it as gyros but I'm starting to get used to it. So when you're in Greece call it the gyros.
So what is fascinating is that gyros means to turn. It is basically rotisserie meat that is cooked on a skewer and you can have all kinds of different things. There is chicken, pork, lamb. So pick whatever you want and it is stuffed inside of a pita.
So enough of me rambling on. Let's actually try it here. Mmmm.
That's one of my favorite sandwiches I've had in a while. It's so good. The meat is really tender. I really like the sauce. Tzatziki. Yeah, the tzatziki sauce and you've also got a lot of onions and tomatoes too, so really good stuff.
So for mine I got the pita souvlaki. And souvlaki is basically meat on a skewer so it is not shaved meat like Sam's. So I've got nice chunks in there. And also it comes with French fries, onions and tomatoes. And we can't forget the tzatziki sauce which is made with yogurt, garlic and cucumber. Delicious! So I'm going to have another bite here. We've got a quality control bite right now.
Mmmmm.
So so good guys.
So you polished that off quickly. Yeah, I devoured that. Seriously, that was really fast. In terms of price this is basically the cheapest and most affordable meal that you can get in Greece. And it is so delicious. Where we picked it up here, which is a super touristy area, it was 2 Euros each. The giant ones were 3.50 and if you're walking down say more of a residential area, somewhere that is not in a touristy zone, you can pick one up in the one to two Euros range.
This is part of our Travel in Greece series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Greek culture, Greek arts, Greek foods, Greek religion, Greek cuisine and Greek people.

GREEK STREET FOOD TOUR | Best GYROS in Athens + traditional Greek steakhouse | ATHENS STREET FOOD
We're in Athens, Greece! In this 4 part series we're exploring Athens to hunt down the best local Athens food. Today's it's all about Greek street food- we start off with the famous Greek pie- spanakopita. This spinach and phyllo pie is from a local bakery which churns out over 400 pies a day- they're really popular. Spinach and onion sandwiched between sheets of phyllo- the spanakopita is mouthwatering! Onwards to our next snack- the gyros! It took us ages to find a really good gyros to film as there are so many average ones out there! Gyros pita are a really popular street snack in Athens- they're made up of roasted meat carved off a vertical spit (like a doner kebab) and stuffed inside a pita with tzatziki, tomato, onions and chips. The one in this video features incredibly juicy, flavoursome pork. Next up, more pork from a traditional steakhouse. Thinly pounded pork steaks are cooked over charcoal and served with chips and bread. Drizzled with lemon juice and a sprinkling of oregano, the meat is so tender! We round off our Greek street food tour with ice cream from Kokkion, a local artisanal ice cream shop. We hope you enjoyed this Athens street food video, thanks for watching! #greekstreetfood #athensfood #greekfood #streetfood
