Late last year Massachusetts's voters approved a measure that would allow for the legal distribution of medicinal marijuana within the state. The issue has prompted discussion about regulating the dispersal of the drug in various cities around the state including here in Attleboro. Ward 2 city councilor Mark Cooper has been preparing to discuss the issue with the Attleboro City Council. We spoke with him about the issues cities are having to tackle in order to promote the safe distribution of the drug.

The Attleboro Sports Complex Comes To The City
The Attleboro Redevelopment Authority came to City Hall last Thursday to make a major announcement. Surrounded by state and local dignitaries including Lisa Nelson, The ARA announced that it has sold the remaining one hundred and ten acres of land in the Attleboro Industrial Park off of County Street. The land will go to the group Attleboro Sports Complex. The group will spend the next year taking the land and creating a large athletic arena that will have the ability to host a wide variety of sports -- from hockey to cricket. We spoke with Attleboro Sports Complex spokesman Joe Fitzpatrick to learn more about the project.

Known as the Peleg Chase House in the Milton Historical Society records, this home was built in 1890 and evidence indicates that Willard T. Sears designed and built the house, There are identical architectural features, identical scale and use of trim detail, windows, and columns all of which are hallmarks of Sears. The house was originally built to accommodate a family and all the servants required to run a home of this size.
The house was designed for entertaining while still having intimate family spaces. As you arrive, you are greeted with a generous wrap-around porch which features both open and covered areas. The sweeping staircase curves up three floors. Note the detailed carving on the fireplace and the hidden storage compartment under the window seat cushion.
The entertainment sized living room is accented with two pair of original double French doors, 4 original brass wall sconces (rewired and restored), a fireplace with columns and ornate carvings, detailed crown and wall mouldings, and a semi-circular window seat.
The dining room has a 3-window bay, original oiled bronze wall sconces (rewired and restored), wood paneling, extensive moldings, and original French doors to match the living room doors. A vintage Venetian crystal chandelier with a ceiling medallion lights the space.
The kitchen was restored and renovated in 2004. The perfect accent to the state of the art kitchen is the original cast-iron 1879 Walker 4 stove identical to stoves featured in the Johnson & Wales kitchen museum and at the Endicott Estate museum in Dedham. The stove also has its original copper hot water heater. The kitchen also features its original slate sink which is handy as an extra sink when entertaining.
The second floor has 5 rooms, two full bathrooms, and multiple storage closets.
The master bedroom has a fireplace and deep closet. There are three large windows providing lots of light and breezes. This bedroom has direct access to a full master bath, also accessible from the hallway.
There are three rooms on the third floor. The third floor has a large roof deck accessed by new, custom-made double doors. These doors also have the original French screened doors. The roof deck is exceptionally private and features a high railing. The third floor also features a remote-control electric skylight with a built-in moisture detector which automatically closes when it senses rain.

Attleboro Teachers Receive Yale Educator Award
Two Attleboro High School educators have been recognized for their outstanding performance in the classroom. Julie Little and Larry Carpenter were recently presented with 2013 Yale Educator Award. The award is given to teachers who support and inspire in the classroom. Students from schools around the world nominate their teachers for the award and only a few of them are chosen. The Attleboro High Teachers are two of ninety total recipients of the award, and only two of six educators in Massachusetts to receive the award.

The second is an EVP catured duringan EVP session on the first floor. Katie was in bathroom and Steve, Emily and I were in the corners of the living room. The issue has raised discussion in various cities about the regulation and dispersal of the drug, including here in Attleboro. One major challenge facing local lawmakers is deciding where to put the dispensaries. City Councilor and Chairman of the Zoning and Land Use Committee Jonathan Weydt has been preparing to discuss the issue with the Attleboro City Council. We spoke with him to find out more about the issues the city has to tackle in order to promote the safe distribution of the drug.
