Speaking Out Of Place
This film is the product of a collaboration with residents and young people in East 20 , London’s new piece of city and the heart of the 2012 Olympic legacy.
Over Easter 2015 , LivingMaps ran a series of video workshops with young people living in East Village during which they explored what the place was coming to mean to them and gained hands-on experience of every aspects of film making , supporting Aura Films as sound recordists, interviewers, and cinematographers in making a film about the area. At the post production stage we incorporated material from three other local projects being run by LivingMaps in partnership with the Building Exploratory: a community study of East Village , a photography project in which local residents created a collective portrait of East village working with professional photographer Debbie Humphry and a Young Persons On line Map and Guide to the Queen Elisabeth Olympic Park, created with Year 8 students from Chobham Academy School.
The film is composed of five short segments, each examining a different aspect of the Olympic Legacy. Our aim has been to sample a range of local voices and opinions, and to raise wider issues about mega-event regeneration, in terms of employment, affordable housing, community development, public amenity, policing and youth participation.
The 2012 Olympics key aim was to ‘Inspire a Generation’ and this film is especially addressed to young people and to those who have responsibility for their personal development and well being.
If you are a teacher, running a youth or community group, and would like someone from LivingMaps to come to present the film and facilitate a discussion of the issues, please get in touch with us: email info@livingmaps.org.
The film itself is being screened at a number of public venues across East London in 2016 and will also be available to download. Further information can be obtained from the Livingmaps website : livingmaps.org.uk.
Produced by Aura Films in partnership with LivingMaps Network and funded by Triathlon Homes.
36. First Year Living On A Narrowboat Costings & Chat
I've lived afloat for a year now and have travelled over a 1000 miles on the British canals and rivers. I take my dog Molly for a walk along the Coventry canal and discuss the highs and lows of living on a boat as well as running costs and if I'd do anything differently.

61. I've been invited to Victron Energy HQ
After featuring a number of Victron products in past videos they flew me out to their head quarters for a 'chat' and a look around. I went to lunch with the managing director and his dad the founder. I also had a good look around their offices in the city of Almere and chatted to Matthijs Vader the boss!
