Reykjavík Cathedral (Iceland), 03.05.2019
Reykjavík Cathedral (Dómkirkjan í Reykjavík) is a cathedral church in #Reykjavík, the seat of the Bishop of Iceland and mother church of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland. It is located at Austurvöllur Square, next to Alþingishúsið (the Parliament House) on the right (in this video). It was built in 1787 and then rebuilt in 1847. The baptismal font by Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen was installed here.

Iceland: Protesters show red card to Johannsson in Reykjavik
Protesters gathered at the Austurvollur public square in Reykjavik, Saturday, to decry the appointment of Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson as acting prime minister, by former Prime Minister Sigmundur Gunnlaugsson.
Gathered in front of the parliament, protesters listened to live music and several speeches by the organisers, while holding red cards up to the parliament, symbolising their dissatisfaction with what they called the traitor government. The protest remained peaceful and the police did not set up barriers between the parliament and protesters, as they did at protests last week.

Unrest in Iceland when Parliament of Iceland reconvenes
In square Austurvöllur when the parliament of Iceland Alþingi reconvenes after the summer it is an yearly ritual that parliament members walk from the parliament house to the nearby cathedral Dómkirkjan to attend a mess there.
This is from when the Parliament of Iceland reconvened on October 1st, 2011. Lots of protesters had gathered in the square Austurvöllur.

Protest today in Reykjavik Iceland against the Goverment
A protest was planned today in Austurvöllur square, at 14:00 hours against the Government's decision that Iceland should no longer be considered an EU candidate country.
The protest was in front of the PArliamanet building .
About 8 thousand attended , and there was music , and speaches .
Another protest meeting is planned for tomorrow at the same place at 17:00 hours
The protesters said on their facebook page
The Government has chosen to disregard the will of the Icelandic people. The decision was made for their own special interests and against the interests of the nation as a whole, it states on the event. According to polls, 82 percent of Icelanders wish to vote on EU candidacy. Let's all rally at Austurvöllur today to send the Government a strong message. The EU candidacy is a matter for the whole nation and not just a decision to be made by the Independence Party and the Progressive Party.

Pussy Riot is a Russian, feminist, punk-rock collective that stages politically provocative impromptu performances in Moscow, on subjects such as the status of women in Russia, and most recently against the election campaign of Prime Minister Putin for president of Russia.
On 4 July, the trio were given a 2,800 page indictment and told their defense must be ready by 9 July, giving only two working days to study the document. They announced a hunger strike in response, saying that the time was inadequate.
Iceland: New PM appointed as protests continue over Panama Papers leak
Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Austurvollur square in Reykjavik, Wednesday, demanding immediate elections after the removal of former Prime Minister Sigmundur Gunnlaugsson following the Panama Papers leak scandal, which involves high ranking Icelandic government officials. Wednesday's protest was the third day in a row.
Shortly following the conclusion of the protest, Iceland's governing parties officially announced that the now-former Minister for Fisheries and Agriculture Sigmundur Ingi Johannsson was appointed as a new temporary Prime Minister. Johannsson is expected to remain in the position until the general elections to be held in the autumn.

Hallgrímskirkja
A Lutheran parish church. At 73 metres (244 ft), it is the largest church in Iceland. It is 1676 Sqm. Took 38 years to build the church. Houses a large pipe organ. Also used as an observation tower.
Perlan
A landmark building. It is 25.7 metres (84.3 ft) high. Situated on the hill Öskjuhlíð where there had been hot water storage tanks for decades. Has 10,000 cubic meters of exhibition space on the ground floor, known as the Winter Garden.
The Sun Voyager
A sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason. A dreamboat, an ode to the sun. Intrinsically, it contains within itself the promise of undiscovered territory, a dream of hope, progress and freedom.
National Museum of Iceland
Was established on 24 February 1863. A key object in the permanent exhibition is the Valþjófsstaður door, a celebrated carving depicting a version of the Lion-Knight legend where a knight slays a dragon, thus freeing a lion that becomes his companion.
Árbæjarsafn
The historical museum of the city. An open-air museum and a regional museum. Its purpose is to give the public an insight into the living conditions, work and recreational activities of the people of Reykjavík in earlier times.
Golden Circle
A popular tourist route in South Iceland, covering about 300 km looping from Reykjavík into central Iceland and back. Primary stops: the national park Þingvellir, the waterfall Gullfoss (meaning golden falls), and the geothermal active valley of Haukadalur.
Vikin Maritime Museum
A maritime museum. Located by the old harbor and was established in 2005. There are seven exhibitions at the museum displaying Icelandic maritime history from the early settlements to the late 20th century.
Austurvöllur
A public square. A popular gathering place for the citizens. Contains a large statue of Jón Sigurðsson, a leader of Iceland's independence movement. A focal point of protests due to the close location to the Parliament of Iceland.
Landakotskirkja
The cathedral of the Catholic Church in Iceland. Formally named Basilika Krists konungs (The Basilica of Christ the King). It is often referred to as Kristskirkja (Christ's Church).
Icelandic Phallological Museum
Houses the world's largest display of penises and penile parts. The collection of 280 specimens from 93 species of animals includes 55 penises taken from whales, 36 from seals and 118 from land mammals, allegedly including Huldufólk (Icelandic elves) and trolls.

Iceland: Reykjavik protests acting PM following Panama Papers scandal
Hundreds of protesters gathered at Austurvollur square in Reykjavik, Thursday, to show their opposition to Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson's appointment as acting prime minister, after Sigmundur Gunnlaugsson resigned from the post following the Panama Papers leak scandal, in which he was implicated via allegations of offshore banking activity.
Thursday's protest was the fourth day in a row a demonstration had been held on the issue.
