CACV: ALCo S7 #3052 Part 1
In early July, 2010, Delaware Train Videos makes their first visit to the great state of New York. We went to the Cooperstown and Charlotte Valley Railroad in search of some great ALCo action, and boy did we find it. We got there to find ALCo S7 #3052 in operation. #3052 is the last remaining ALCo S7 in operation in the United States. We will see the crew get her ready and fire her up in the morning. Then we'll go trackside, and chase this beaut from Milford, New York to Cooperstown, New York, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. On the way, they'll stop at the Dreams Park to pick up kids. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds of a vintage ALCo 539 in action.
High Bridge of Kentucky - Lexington and Danville Railroad
(Video was recorded by a friend that lives in Kentucky. Thanks for video!)
High Bridge is a railroad bridge crossing the Kentucky River Palisades, connecting Jessamine and Mercer counties, Kentucky. Constructed in 1876, it is the first cantilever bridge in the United States. It has a three-span continuous under-deck truss used by Norfolk Southern Railway to carry trains between Lexington and Danville. It has been designated as a National Civil Engineering Landmark.
A bridge was begun in the 1850s for the Lexington and Danville Railroad. Designed by John A. Roebling (who designed the Brooklyn Bridge) as a suspension bridge supported by stone towers, it was not completed. The towers for the suspension cables were built and portions remained until 1929.
The bridge was redesigned of cantilever design and opened in 1877 on the Cincinnati Southern Railway. It was 275 feet (84 m) tall (According to the bronze plaque beside it, it is 308 ft.) and 1,125 feet (343 m) long: the tallest bridge above a navigable waterway in North America and the tallest railroad bridge in the world until the early 20th century. With a three-span continuous under-deck truss, it was designed by Charles Shaler Smith and was the first cantilever bridge in the United States. In 1879 President Hayes and Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman attended the dedication.
The current bridge, designed by Gustav Lindenthal, was built around the existing structure in 1911 and expanded to two tracks in 1929.
In 2005 the state and county jointly reopened a park near the bridge (which had been closed since the mid 1960s) at the top of the palisades above the river. It included a restored open air dance pavilion, first used in the 19th century; as well as a new playground, picnic area, and viewing platform that overlooks the bridge and river's edge from the top of the palisades.

The British Rail (BR) Class 20, otherwise known as an English Electric Type 1, is a class of diesel-electric locomotive. In total, 228 locomotives in the class were built by English Electric between 1957 and 1968, the large number being in part because of the failure of other early designs in the same power range to provide reliable locomotives.
The locomotives were originally numbered D8000--D8199 and D8300--D8327. They are known by railway enthusiasts as Choppers, a name derived from the distinctive beat that the engine produces under load which resembles the sound of a helicopter.
Designed around relatively basic technology, the 73-tonne locomotives produce 1,000 horsepower (750 kW) and can operate at up to 75 mph (121 km/h). Designed to work light mixed freight traffic, they have no train heating facilities. Locomotives up to D8127 were fitted with disc indicators in the style of the steam era; when headcodes were introduced in 1960 the locomotive's design was changed to incorporate headcode boxes. Unusually for British designs, the locomotive had a single cab. This caused serious problems with visibility when travelling nose first, though in these circumstances the driver's view is comparable to that on the steam locomotives that the Class 20s replaced.
The Class 20 saw only limited service on passenger trains, their use was limited to summer relief services, particularly to Skegness often under the adopted title of The Jolly Fisherman starting from various places including Burton-on-Trent, Stoke-on-Trent, Derby and Leicester. Also occasionally other holiday resorts on the east coast of England, occasional duties as a pilot, and short distance diversions of electric-hauled trains over non-electrified lines.

Ten years later, at the 2011 census, the city's population had risen to 75,306, with 107,524 in the wider city.
Nicknamed the Great Border City, Carlisle today is the main cultural, commercial and industrial centre for north Cumbria. It is home to the main campuses of the University of Cumbria and a variety of museums and heritage centres.

Direct Rail Services (DRS) is a freight operating company created by British Nuclear Fuels Limited. The company started rail operations in 1995 using five heavily refurbished Class 20/3 diesel locomotives. Since then it has expanded greatly, and has acquired many more locomotives, most bought second-hand and subsequently refurbished. Ownership of DRS was transferred from BNFL to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority when the NDA was created on 1 April 2005, under the terms of the Energy Act 2004. DRS is the only remaining publicly owned rail freight company in the United Kingdom.

Pathfinder Tours is a railtour operating company operating in the United Kingdom. The company was founded in 1973 by Peter Watts, who organised a rail journey through British Rail from Severnside to the Cambrian coast. The company organises tours for both rail enthusiasts, and general tours to places of interest. After British Rail's demise the company operated in conjunction with several spot-hire companies, most notably E.W.S., FM Rail and Direct Rail Services, who provided locomotives, and Riviera Trains, who provided rolling stock.
This relationship was solidified in 2006, when Riviera Trains purchased the parent company of Pathfinder Tours. A new company named Pathfinder Tours (2006) Ltd was formed to continue operating railtours with the exclusive use of Riviera's supply of rolling stock. Although it will primarily use DB Schenker and Direct Rail Services locomotives, occasionally a preserved locomotive will be chartered from one of the major preservation organisations (notably the Class 40 Preservation Society, Diesel Traction Group or the Deltic Preservation Society). The company also acts as a booking agent for other companies such as A1 Trust and Torbay Express Ltd.

SUMMARY
=======
Portland is the largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the seat of Multnomah County. It is a major port in the Willamette Valley region of the Pacific Northwest, at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. As of 2017, Portland had an estimated population of 647,805, making it the 26th-largest city in the United States, and the second-most populous in the Pacific Northwest (after Seattle). Approximately 2.4 million people live in the Portland metropolitan statistical area (MSA), making it the 25th most populous MSA in the United States. Its Combined Statistical Area (CSA) ranks 18th-largest with a population of around 3.2 million. Approximately 60% of Oregon's population resides within the Portland metropolitan area.Named after Portland, Maine, the Oregon settlement began to be populated in the 1830s near the end of the Oregon Trail. Its water access provided convenient transportation of goods, and the timber industry was a major force in the city's early economy. At the turn of the 20th century, the city had a reputation as one of the most dangerous port cities in the world, a hub for organized crime and racketeering. After the city's economy experienced an industrial boom during World War II, its hard-edged reputation began to dissipate. Beginning in the 1960s, Portland became noted for its growing progressive political values, earning it a reputation as a bastion of counterculture. The city operates with a commission-based government guided by a mayor and four commissioners as well as Metro, the only directly elected metropolitan planning organization in the United States. The city government is notable for its land-use planning and investment in public transportation. Portland is frequently recognized as one of the world's most environmentally conscious cities because of its high walkability, large community of bicyclists, farm-to-table dining, expansive network of public transportation options, and over 10,000 acres (4,000 hectares) of public parks. Its climate is marked by warm, dry summers and cool, rainy winters. This climate is ideal for growing roses, and Portland has been called the City of Roses for over a century.
Tewkesbury
Tewkesbury is a town and civil parish in Gloucestershire, England. It stands at the confluence of the River Severn and the River Avon, and also minor tributaries the Swilgate and Carrant Brook. It gives its name to the Borough of Tewkesbury, of which the town is the second largest settlement.
The name Tewkesbury comes from Theoc, the name of a Saxon who founded a hermitage there in the 7th century, and in the Old English tongue was called Theocsbury. An erroneous derivation from Theotokos enjoyed currency in the monastic period of the town's history.

It had been a trading center and market town during the years of King Cotton in the South. It was also an important armaments manufacturing and iron shipbuilding center during the Civil War, surrounded by miles of earthen fortifications. The Confederate forces were defeated during the Battle of Selma.
