Aylesbury Brewhouse Grand Opening
The new Aylesbury Brewhouse opened at the back of the Hop Pole pub in Aylesbury, the pub and the new brewery are owned by the Vale Brewery. There is a decent shop selling a wide variety of quality bottled beers & wines. The bottled beers for sale are from around the world with Belgium well represented. The pub itself is a gem with up to 10 real ales on handpump. To celebrate the opening the pub put on a beer festival and invited CAMRA legend Roger Portz, the editor of the Good Beer Guide, to open the new brewery. See my other video for his speech.
Aylesbury News, Tring Brewery Picks Up Bronze Medal at the Great British Beer Festival.
A beer brewed in Tring is one of the top three in the UK today.
Death or Glory, which is made at Tring Brewery, won the Bronze Medal at the Great British Beer Festival.
It's run by the Campaign for Real Ale.
Bingham's Vanilla Stout, brewed in Berkshire, was named the best beer of 2016 at the Champion Beer of Britain Awards Dinner held on Tuesday evening (9 August) at the Hilton Hotel, Olympia, London.
The award comes after almost a year of local tasting panels and regional heats seeing the best beers across the UK invited to compete at the Great British Beer Festival.
Final judging for the competition was held at the huge beer festival which opened its doors to the public on August 9 and over the next week will see more than 50,000 people visiting Olympia in London to sample their choice of more than 900 beers, cider and perries – including the chance to try the nation's best beer.
Bingham's Vanilla Stout is a 5 per cent Dark Stout infused with vanilla and dark malts to create a smooth and dark beer.
The Kent based Old Dairy brewery's Snow Top claimed the silver award in the Champion Beer of Britain competition. The 6 per cent ABV Old Ale has already taken a gold award at CAMRA's National Winter Ale's Festival and is described by the brewery as the perfect winter warmer with fruitcake and marmalade flavours.
Placing third in the competition was Tring brewery's Death or Glory, a 7.2 per cent Barley Wine, brewed by appointment to the Queen's Royal Lancers. The beer is described by the Hertfordshire brewery as being a rich and sweet barley wine with a complex nature.
CAMRA national director responsible for the Champion Beer of Britain Competition Nik Antona said:
This year all the judges commented on how high quality all the beers were in the final stages of the competition and what a wide range of styles and beers they had to try and choose between.
Bingham's Vanilla Stout is packed full of comforting flavours and I'm sure it will be a popular Champion Beer Choice. It's great to see a speciality beer win the award for the first time in the history of the competition and our congratulations go to the brewery.
And there's been some love for the Tring brew on Twitter as well:
I swear @TringBrewery don't brew a bad beer. This strong Death or Glory really packs a punch at 7.2% #GBBF pic.twitter.com/gnbiSToWYC

Aylesbury News, Unusual train passengers: Beer barrels travel to London.
A Buckinghamshire brewery has used a unique mode of transport to make a delivery to London.
A train.
When Malt The Brewery were asked to deliver beer to the Thornbury Castle Pub in Marylebone, they could have done what they always do and deliver it in the faithful brewery van.
Jenny Watson, Co-Founder at Malt The Brewery, said:
We're a small local micro brewery, normally delivering within a 30 mile radius, so central London is technically outside our area.

Thame Food Festival 2014
The streets of Thame were teeming with visitors on Saturday 27th September when the town hosted its seventh annual food festival. More than 25,000 foodies traveled from far and wide to enjoy one of Oxfordshire’s finest food sensations, enjoying delicious local produce, inspiring cookery demos and a great day out.
More than 180 stalls lined the town centre from end to end serving up tasty local food and drink, bounty that included cured meats, cheeses, pies, preserves, ales and ciders. Visitors were able to try and buy, taking home fantastic, hand-made food and drink whilst supporting local producers into the bargain.
Celebrity chefs numbering Raymond Blanc OBE, Adam Simmonds, Sophie Grigson and winners of BBC Two’s the Great British Bake Off Edd Kimber and John Whaite thrilled visitors on the demo stage sponsored by AGA, whilst Tom Kerridge and many others made an appearance on the interview stage with festival patron, TV chef and writer Lotte Duncan and BBC Radio 2’s Ken Bruce putting them through their paces. Visitors got the latest cookery books signed by the authors at the pop-up book shop run by Thame’s independent book shop, The Book House.
Food fans tried their hands at sausage-making, bread shaping, wine tasting and fresh pasta making at exciting work shops and afterwards nursed a pint of local real ale at one of the friendly watering-holes in town including The James Figg pop-up pub. There was also a competition to win a day as a brewer with the Vale Brewery and the Aylesbury Brewhouse Co.
To make way for the festival the entire town centre was closed off for the day and visitors rode to and from Thame on one of four, traditional London Routemaster double decker buses, returning laden with purchases and smiles on their faces after a tasty and enjoyable day out.
“What an amazing day – Thame Food Festival just gets bigger and better every year!” says festival patron Lotte Duncan. “Record crowds, wonderful weather and staggering support from everyone who took part meant a fantastic day for Thame and for the fantastic local and artisan produce the event showcases.
“We have so many great producers on our doorstep, who are passionate about what they do, and we were thrilled to see so many of them out in force at the festival. We are also truly blessed with the support we have from celebrity chefs who give their time for free to bring a day celebrating local food into the market town of Thame.
“We couldn’t do it without them, nor without the support of our generous sponsors Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, AGA, Rectory Homes, Wellers, South Oxfordshire District Council, The Thatch and Belazu, and we’d like to say a big thank you to all of them,” she says.
As well as fantastic feedback from visitors from the day, stall holders reported brisk trading with many down to their last bottle, loaf or slice of cake by the end of the festival.
Finally, there was even more reason to celebrate on one stall, Long Crendon’s Bucksum, when proprietor David Newman proposed to his partner Tracy Russell and she said yes. Fittingly, the couple met at The Thame Food Festival four years ago, with David choosing this year’s festival as the perfect time to pop the question. David said, “It had to be today as it was a very special occasion, we’re food lovers and we love it here in Thame.”

Aylesbury News,Long Marston pub celebrating a year since community saved it from closure
The Queen's Head in Long Marston is celebrating a year since the community stepped in to help save it from closure.
Just over a year ago Tim Ayling found out that the tenant at the time was leaving as they found the business unsustainable.
He then decided to put a post on Facebook asking if anyone would be willing to invest £100 to help save the local pub.
Tim said:
We had a very quick response of people going 'Oh goodness, yes of course!'
What followed was a meeting at our house where we decided to keep the pub open for 12 weeks over the Christmas period.
The local support was phenomenal; we ended up with enough people donating £100 to take the pub on.
Tim originally only intended to take on the pub temporarily while the brewery who owned it looked for another tenant to take it on - but the pub is now celebrating a year since they stepped in to save it.
He continued:
Tonight is a big thank you to the local community, both those who invested and those who use the pub over the year.
What should have been 12 weeks has become 52. We could only have done that with the support of our local area.
It's lovely to be able to celebrate what we as a village and local area have achieved, in managing to keep another pub open.

Prince William tells mindfulness artist Johanna Basford that Kate is a fan of her books.
Watch out George, Mummy loves colouring in too! Prince William tells mindfulness artist Johanna Basford that Kate is a fan of her books.
Mindfulness artist Johanna Basford today learned she had a very regal fan; after Prince William told the Scottish illustrator the Duchess of Cambridge loves colouring-in books.
Basford, 33, attended an investiture at Buckingham Palace this afternoon, picking up the accolade for services to art and entrepreneurship.
The Duke of Cambridge told the artist, who's colouring-in books for grown-ups have been global best-sellers, that Kate loved to colour away her cares.
Ms Basford, who lives in Ellon in Scotland, told the Press Association: 'I think we've just seen the colouring community flourish.
And Prince William actually said that his wife likes to colour in the Secret Garden, which was really sweet.'
Secret Garden was Ms Basford's first book and has sold more than one million copies.
Adult colouring books have become increasingly popular in recent times, with the craze - referred to as 'colour therapy' - capturing the imagination of those looking for a more gentle distraction from the stresses of the modern world and technology.
Reflecting on the popularity of her work, Basford added: 'I think people are just craving a digital detox.'
In an unusual event, Ms Basford was joined at the investiture ceremony by her husband James Watt, co-owner of BrewDog, who was also picking up an honour - an MBE for services to the brewing industry.
Didcot 2017 Model Railway Exhibition 21st October 2017 by Abingdon and District MRC (AMDRC)
Some layouts from the Abingdon and District Model Railway Club (AMDRC) presents Didcot 2017 Model Railway Exhibition on Sat 21st October 2017.
We hope you enjoy – Steam and Model Railways
Kidmore Lane Brampton Branch (OO Gauge) – Exhibitor David Mitchell Started Nov 2013 , a 55 x 15 OO gauge green diesel DCC sound layout loosely based on an East Midlands industrial complex. The layout takes its inspiration from the area surrounding “The Chesterfield Tube Company”. Since opening in 1897 as the `Universal Weldless Steel Tube Company Ltd’ to produce steel tubes for warships of the Royal Navy, the company changed both ownership and name several times. In 1906 it became `The Chesterfield Tube Company’ and remained so for 60 years, although known locally simply as `The Tube Works’. The Works closed in 2005.
Fryupdale Brewery - Exhibitor: Nigel Hawkins Gauge: EM – 4mm 1:76 A small brewery layout, originally built by Ian Manderson, but modified by the current owner, Nigel, who added an engine shed and additional fiddle yard. Locomotives are mainly industrial although some ex-mainline locomotives can also be seen.
The layout was built for the 2002 DEMU small layout competition which among other things, stipulated that it mustn’t exceed an area of 654 sq ins and have at least one working point.
Byway Mpd-00 Gauge- Exhibited by John Gay Byway MPD is a small 4ft 6in demo layout, based on a Ian fulters design this little layout is packed with dcc equipment
Amworth – A club layout from the Letchworth Model Railway Society – Exhibited by John Gay A new OO gauge layout is being built in order to give new and existing members the experience of model railway design and construction, and to provide a new project for the Club. The layout has two levels. The upper level would represent the steam age and the lower level would represent the modern age. It will support both DC and DCC.
Yeston Road MPD is a member layout from Southampton Model Railway Society – Exhibited by David Mitchell. Yewston Road is a former LNWR motive power depot somewhere in the north-west of England. Based on the cramped track layout of the depot at Lancaster Green Ayre, it is set around 1960. There is a four-road engine shed in the later LMS style with a reinforced concrete roof and smoke vents, accessed via the 70-foot turntable. The coal stage is a typical LNWR “coal hole” and there is a fuel point for the new-fangled diesels in one corner. It is a busy depot, with locomotives coming and going all day.
Marsh Junction – 4mm/OO Gauge – Exhibited by Robert Blake
Somewhere in France – 4mm/009 Gauge This layout shows some of the conditions endured during World War 1 and is based on the narrow gauge railways operated by the Royal Engineer Light Railway Operating Companies behind the lines in France and Belgium that used to take supplies and troops to the front line area and bring back injured soldiers to Casualty Clearing Stations swiftly for dressing before they were taken further to the rear and eventually UK for treatment.
The date is late 1917, early 1918 and the layout is split in two. The left hand board depicts a French village used by troops, either movig forward as can be seen by the marching troops being sent off by the general, or by troops who have come out of the front line trenches and who are needing somewhere to rest and recuperate.
The right hand board represents further forward. The most obvious part being the trench system showing various events such as the soldier sat by the lookout post with a gun shell hanging down, his duty is to bash it if he smells gas and warn his comrades to put their gas masks on. Then there is the sniper on the roof of the observation post.
The History of CAMRA (The Campaign for Real Ale)
In the 40 year history, CAMRA has became the Europes largest single issue consumer group. This mighty group of citizens single handedly forced a major industry to change direction and successfully persuaded governments to change laws. At the time, those four individuals, (now no longer so young) had no idea their quirky group would generate such an explosive response from similarly minded folk from all over the world. But what they started has saved a huge part of British brewing heritage from certain extinction. For that one reason, we believe this is a story worth telling.
