PONZ at BB King Museum's Club Ebony
I installed a huge, carved, wooden installation on the stage of the BB King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center's Club Ebony in Indianola, Mississippi. Indianola is the birthplace of one of the Blues pioneers, BB King... and Club Ebony is where his musical career began. The piece is called, The Color of Blues and I could not be happier that this piece, and the improvisational painting I created, found a permanent home in such an historic venue. On 8/8/13 a reception was held where I created an improvisational painting as Dr. Alphonso Sanders, John Gray Shermyen and Jack McWilliams jammed. This was all made possible by John Shermyen who bought the piece and donated it to the museum. I can't wait to one day see BB King himself and a parade of other musicians play in front of my work! If you are ever in the Delta, be sure to stop by Club Ebony.

B.B. King
Riley B. King (born September 16, 1925), known by the stage name B.B. King, is an American blues musician, singer, songwriter, and guitarist.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked him at No. 6 on its 2011 list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time (previously ranked No. 3 in the 2003 edition of the same list), and he was ranked No. 17 in Gibson's Top 50 Guitarists of All Time. According to Edward M. Komara, King introduced a sophisticated style of soloing based on fluid string bending and shimmering vibrato that would influence virtually every electric blues guitarist that followed. King was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. He is considered one of the most influential blues musicians of all time, earning the nickname The King of Blues, and one of the Three Kings of the Blues Guitar (along with Albert King and Freddie King). King is also known for performing tirelessly throughout his musical career, appearing at 250-300 concerts per year until his seventies. In 1956 it was noted that he appeared at 342 shows. King continues to appear at 100 shows a year.

BB King's Memorial on Beale Street
Rain drops were like tears from heaven on the day Riley B. B.B. King was honored on the street that gave him his name, but a little rain was not enough to keep family, friends and fans away.
Bobby Rush played When The Saints Go Marching In on stage in Handy Park before the funeral procession down Beale Street, and a host of others paid homage to B.B. as well.
Rodd Bland, son of Bobby Blue Bland and B.B. King's godson, carried B.B.'s beloved guitar, Lucille, in the procession, accompanied by a huge second line of musicians from Memphis and around the world.
The blue hearse carrying B.B. traveled south down Highway 61 to the Mississippi State line where the procession was met at the border by Mississippi governor Phil Bryant then escorted to B.B. to his final destination, Indianola, Mississippi.

Mississippi Delta: Blues Trail road trip
Louisiana may be the birthplace of Jazz, but Mississippi Delta, is where the Blues were born! Music, comfort food and southern hospitality run deep in the Delta. My journey followed Highway 61, which is also known as the “Blues Trail.” One could argue that Highway 61 rivals Route 66, certainly for its musical significance.
I found the Mississippi Delta to exude charm and hospitality, while its music permeated my soul and found a place in my heart.
