Victory museum B 52 ,HANOI, VN
The B-52 Victory Museum, Hanoicomprises one main building with displays on the history of the Vietnamese revolution, the First Indochina War, the Vietnam War, Operations Rolling Thunder, Linebacker and Linebacker II and the air defense of Hanoi. The outdoor displays include the wreckage of a B-52D or G Stratofortress apparently shot down during Operation Linebacker II (although no specific details are provided) and various air defense equipment. The Museum is located approximately 300m south of the B-52 lake, Hồ B-52 or Huu Tiep Lake which appears to contain part of the undercarriage section of the B-52 at the Museum. A plaque at the lake states that the aircraft was a B-52G shot down by a Surface-to-air missile (SAM) fired by the 72nd Battalion, 285th Air Defence Missile Regiment on 27 December 1972, however the only B-52s lost that day were two B-52Ds.

Hanoi Hunting B52s
Walking around Hanoi (Vietnam) looking for the wreckage of a B52 in a small lake in a back street.
Hanoi March 1979
Historical purposes only. Jim Laurie Report from Hanoi in March 1979 in the aftermath of the war between China and Vietnam. Chinese forces began their offensive against Vietnam on February 17, 1979. On March 5th, China declared mission accomplished and began withdrawing. Most analysts concluded that Vietnam had actually given China a 'bloody nose.' The hardened Vietnamese troops using ambush tactics killed an estimated 3000 Chinese troops in a matter of days. In China, the war is largely forgotten. It resulted in calls from Chinese military commanders for modernization. In Vietnam the brief conflict was referred to as Chiến tranh chống bành trướng Trung Hoa (The War against Chinese Expansionism). In China it was termed 对越自卫反击战 (The Defensive Counter-Attack Against Vietnam.) The war was fought in the words of Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping to teach Vietnam a lesson. The Chinese attack was meant to loosen Vietnam's grip on Cambodia. Vietnam had invaded Cambodia in late 1978 and had overthrown the Chinese backed regime of Pol Pot in early January 1979. Laurie was one of only two American correspondents permitted into Vietnam to cover the aftermath of the war. Laurie was in Shanghai when the Chinese launched their attack. His requests to cover the war from the Chinese side, were ignored.
