Cast Introducing The Favourite UK Premiere at London BFI Southbank
The Favourite UK Premiere (American Express Gala) at the London Film Festival, 18 October 2018.
We were fortunate to have the film introduced by director Yorgos Lanthimos, cast including Emma Stone, Olivia Colman, Joe Alwyn, Rachel Weisz, Mark Gatiss, and writers Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara.
The film was shown simultaneously across three screens of the BFI - NFT1, NFT2 and NFT3.
We were fortunate to get presale access to the screening through being American Express Cardmembers. For just £30 we got to walk the red carpet along the stars and be amongst the first in the country to watch this movie.
BFI Shop (British Film Institute) - London Attractions - UK
Have you ever thought about the places found in the city you are travelling to which are not much historical and touristic but which carries a meaning for you? BFI shop in London is one of the places that attract some people to it and one which you should consider if you are going there anytime soon.
The BFI shop (British Film Institute) actually carries a quite good history behind, it was founded back in 1933 - a good time ago. The BFI is a charity governed by a Royal Charter; it combines cultural, creative and industrial roles, bringing together the BFI National Archive and BFI Reuben Library, film distribution, exhibition and education and BFI Southbank and BFI IMAX, publishing and festival.
It is not just about the shop - although it is the only destination we have been to in this video - but there are also the other parts of the BFI which are related to education and film and TV. The BFI shop sells different things, there you will find books, DVDs and Blu-ray, gifts and you will most probably find the latest versions and the newest releases which you might have been searching for - it would be nice to go back home with a chosen gift for a friend or family member from that shop, they might find it hard to search for it elsewhere.
Visiting this place might not take much time from you - that's of course if you are not a mad fan who would be checking every single product found inside there - but it will be always a good idea to take a break from all the historical places you are visiting in the city and at the same time find good things to buy for yourself.
The interesting thing to know about is the fact that every single purchase that is done in the BFI shop supports the work of the BFI. Inside the shop and while touring around trying to find something of your interest, you will find the staff working there who are also film experts who will be more than willing to help you. The shop is not just about BFI products, but there you could also find a huge range of world cinema and specialist Blu-rays, DVDs, books and film related merchandise - so you will find everything you are searching for and even more.
This is one of the places that doesn't have much to do with the history of the city that tourists coming to London could check, but there are also other examples that we could also refer to, one of them is the M&M's World where people will find everything related to the chocolate itself to the t-shirts, teddy bears and lots of other products and toys, it is one of the places that kids and parents enjoy visiting ( Another place to add to this list is Chinatown which is also not a historical place but one which people will enjoy checking and eating a Chinese dinner at ( There is also the Camden Town Market which is a mixture of both, history and a general artistic place that people could also go to and check what it has to offer them from products, art and music and enjoy their day differently (
When one gets to ask about the places that could be checked and visited in London, there are usually expected permanent places that will be mentioned and written down in the list. This list we are referring to will suggest London Eye and checking the views from up there ( Buckingham Palace ( but sometimes the Royal Mews related to it are not in the list and thus you could add it yourself ( there is also Big Ben which is one of the most famous things that is mentioned the first thing when one says London ( and there is also the Tower of London (
These are always the ordinary places that are suggested when it comes to travelling to London because they tell much about its history, but there are some other places which we could suggest but which at the same time are not a must to go to if you are visiting London. From these places, we would suggest taking a break by visiting any of the different gardens found there ( there is also Sky London ( and another suggestion would be London Aquarium ( These are not a must for any traveler to go and check while being in London, but they are also considered good options when one thinks about taking a little bit of break away from all the history and the famous attractions.

Thirteen years after the Festival of Britain, it's all change once again on London's South Bank. With the sci-fi saucer that was the Dome of Discovery long gone, this gentle boat tour along the Thames takes in County Hall, Royal Dutch Shell's imposing new HQ, and the building site next to the Royal Festival Hall that would blossom into the Hayward Gallery, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Purcell Rooms.
The film's final minutes offer a compelling glimpse inside the National Film Theatre, as filmgoers emerge from the latest Jean-Luc Godard offering and Jeanne Moreau, one of the brightest stars of the 'nouvelle vague', sparkles down from the poster board: a touch of continuity in an area that was evolving into London's most vibrant cultural quarter. Intriguingly, the commentary suggests the new National Theatre was to be built in front of the Shell building, rather than on the other side of Waterloo Bridge, where it eventually opened in 1976.

National Theatre's smart caption glasses to be piloted at BFI for London Short Film Festival 2020
London Short Film Festival 2020 to host cinema’s first UK pilot of the National Theatre’s innovative smart caption glasses system for cinema-goers for D/deaf, deafened or hard of hearing audiences.
This January 2020, the London Short Film Festival (LSFF) will host the first UK pilot in cinemas of the National Theatre’s smart caption glasses, a solution for D/deaf, deafened or hard of hearing audiences, at BFI Southbank.
As part of the festival’s ongoing commitment to accessibility, LSFF is delighted to announce that smart caption glasses will be available to cinema-goers at all LSFF 2020 UK Competition screenings with support from the BFI Audience Fund (awarding funds from The National Lottery), BFI Southbank, National Theatre, Epson and the UK Cinema Association’s Technology Challenge Fund.
Launched in 2018 by the National Theatre (NT), following a year of testing with audiences who are D/deaf, deafened or hard of hearing, smart caption glasses have been in use for 80% of their productions on the South Bank.
The Open Access Smart Capture technology was the result of an ongoing collaboration between the NT's technical team and speech and language experts led by Professor Andrew Lambourne.
The glasses display a synchronised transcript of dialogue and sound directly onto the lenses of the glasses, giving service users the freedom to experience captions how and when they want to. Accenture and the NT developed the service using Moverio BT-350 smart glasses, which are designed and manufactured by Epson specifically with arts and culture applications in mind.
Including work from Peter Strickland (In Fabric), a poignant turn from Maxine Peake (Funny Cow) and the directorial debut of Lena Headey, the LSFF 2020 UK Competition selection presents compelling storytelling from established and emerging British directors across four screenings on 11th, 13th, 15th & 16th January in NFT1 at BFI Southbank.
With 11 million people living with hearing loss across the UK - around one in six of the population - LSFF has been hosting annual screenings in London and across the UK for underserved Deaf and hard of hearing audiences for the past three years, curated by LSFF’s Deaf programmer Zoe McWhinney.
Over the last decade, the UK cinema sector, with the support of the UK Cinema Association, has worked hard to meet the needs of deaf and hearing-impaired audiences, increasing the number of subtitled screenings significantly. There are now over 1,500 subtitled screenings in UK cinemas every week. But the delivery of such ‘open caption’ shows, where the subtitles are visible to audience members whether they need them or not, remains a challenge, particularly for smaller cinema operators.
A further development of the Technology Challenge Fund, launched by the UK Cinema Association in October 2018 to find an affordable and inclusive solution to the delivery of subtitles for deaf and hard of hearing people, the pilot will see the first test of the National Theatre solution in a ‘live’ cinema environment.
A limited number of smart caption glasses will be available for booking at the following LSFF UK Competition screenings:
A Little Tenderness - Saturday 11th Jan, 5.20pm, BFI Southbank
Concealment Feeds the Fear - Monday 13th Jan, 8.45pm, BFI Southbank
In Living Colour - Wednesday 15th Jan, 8.50pm, BFI Southbank
Joyful & Triumphant - Thursday 16th Jan, 8.45pm, BFI Southbank
Bookings must be made by emailing LSFF on events@shortfilms.org

BFI Southbank backs Christie's new 4K platform and IMB
The British Film Institute (BFI) has extended its long association with digital cinema world leader, Christie and its DCI-compliant projectors, by embracing the new Solaria 4K DLP® resolution platform.
With its high frame rate, the acquisition of the new CP4230 will enhance the BFI Southbank's cinema experience — particularly its 3D exhibits — delivering more than 34,000 lumens.
The new projector will sit alongside the BFI's Christie CP2000 2K DLP Cinema® projector in the 450-seat NFT1, at London's BFI Southbank.
The BFI is now staging a lot of very high profile premieres, and this gives us a choice, says Richard Boyd, Head of Technical Services. Each year we run over 2,000 bits of content through these Christie projectors, and in an enormous number of formats, and they never fall over.
