A little late but we celebrated the New Year at Ba Vi National Park. About a 1 hour 30 minute motorbike drive from Hanoi. We stayed at Ba Vi Homestead right near the entrance of the park for about $25 per night. Such a beautiful place!!

Ba Vi National Park is located in the Ba Vi mountain range of Ba Vi district (Hanoi City) and two districts of Luong Son and Ky Son in Hoa Binh province with an area of 10,814.6 ha, 15 km from Son Tay district and 15 km from Son Tay district. center of Hanoi 50 km to the west.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, Ba Vi has been a famous place for its diversity of ecosystems and beautiful scenery and cool climate. This national park is located in a high mountain range running along the northeast-southwest direction with the height of King 1,296 m, Tan Vien peak of 1,227 m, and Ngoc Hoa peak of 1,131 m.
Stepping into Ba Vi National Park, you will first have the opportunity to explore the magical natural forest immersed in the mist. A whole pine forest towering with lush greenery, you are spoiled with your best friends to take extremely vivid virtual pictures that are no different from lost in Wonderland Alice. In particular, in the fall - the beautiful fall season, you will witness the whole forest immersed in the yellow color of the leaves, right now with that person watching the falling leaves is nothing more romantic.
Ba Vi ancient church: with ancient French architectural works, Ba Vi ancient church appears with a magical, mysterious beauty when hidden in the middle of the dense smoke. If still a little afraid of the mysterious looks of the old house, stick with your friends to explore together. Moss clinging to the surface of chameleon, Ba Vi ancient church is the ideal place for super deep pictures. The ancient and magical beauty of the ancient church is a feature of this famous national park.
Thien Son Suoi Nga: entering the gate of Ba Vi National Park, turn left about 5km and you will arrive Thien Son - Suoi Nga, Ba Vi beautiful scenery as the name of it. Thien Son Suoi Nga is suitable for taking pictures and swimming with many beautiful angles. The pure and pure white water flowing down from the cliff will bring a refreshing feeling to visitors. A natural scenery of rivers, streams, forests extremely majestic and magnificent.
Thuong Ba Vi Temple, a place of worship of Saint Tan Vien: with a path of more than 500 steps in the middle of immense forests, Thuong Temple is a spiritual historical relic built on the top of Tan Vien mountain. Thuong temple relics complex includes 4 main areas: Uncle Ho Temple, Ha Temple, Trung Temple and Thuong Temple. You can feel the ancient beauty of the ancient temple in the cold taste of dew, clouds, wind and forest.
Right at the foot of Tan Vien Mountain, visitors have the opportunity to visit the Ao King tourist area - a complex of entertainment and relaxation in the fresh space of Ba Vi. You can participate in many folk games such as throwing darts, sailing, throwing rings, burning campfire as well as many interesting singing and dancing activities. Built and equipped with modern facilities, Ao Vua Ba Vi tourist resort with clear blue water and cool space is an ideal resort for tourists.
In addition, Ba Vi Resort is famous for delicacies dubbed specialty here such as barbs, Da river catfish, goat dishes, piglets, goat milk, roasted goat meat, taro soup, melon. Sour fried with pork fat, cassava, ... Especially in the cold season, visitors can picnic and set fire to cook and organize a barbecue party in the middle of the vast space of the forest. Ba Vi National Park
Have you heard of Ba Vi National Park. one of the most untravelled place in Vietnam? Are you looking for the most beautiful church in Vietnam? No, I’m not talking about St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Hanoi nor Saigon Notre-Dame Basilica in Ho Chi Minh. I’m talking about a deserted church at the outskirt of Hanoi. This is a place that few tourists have heard of, not to mention haven been there before. This place is called Ba Vi National Park.
How I got to know Ba Vi National Park?
I’ve been to Vietnam a couple of times and seriously love the country, the people and the food. This year June, I went back there again to give a talk on Value Investing, sharing with Vietnamese how to make passive income from the stock market. Since I got a day to spare, I decided to visit the outskirt of Hanoi and ventured into places I’ve never been before.
As I was googling, I came across this place called Ba Vi National Park on BestPrice Travel. The tour company organizes tours to visit parts of Vietnam, and out of so many, I picked Ba Vi National Park due to its proximity to Hanoi and its exotic attractions.
Ba Vi National Park Day Trip
On the day of the trip, our tour guide Lin picked us up at 8am from the hotel. She shared with us how surprised she was when she found out that we had picked Ba Vi National Park out of so many destinations. “Very few tourists are interested in Ba Vi National Park. You guys are really special. But trust me, you won’t regret over your decision.”
During our 1.5 hour drive to Ba Vi National Park (about 65km from Hanoi), Lin was enthusiastically sharing with us what we were going to do – hiking, visiting viewpoints, cave, pagoda and temple… “There’s also a very beautiful church, very holy,” she said.
As our car driving up deep into the mountain, the air became cooler and cooler. Located at an altitude 1,100 m above sea level, the climate in Ba Vi is fresh and cool all the year round. Being far of the bustling Hanoi, the sound of nature also grew louder. Birds were chirping and bugs were singing. It was very delightful to hear.
Ba Vi National Park Attractions
After alighting from our car, we walked about 20 minutes to reach the scenic viewpoint. There is a huge lake at the bottom of the mountain. According to Lin, there’s a beautiful resort by the lake.
Next comes the Ba Vi National Park temple and pagoda. I’m not a huge fan of temple and pagoda. But I guess there was no harm visiting it and understanding more about their history and culture from the local guide.
Ba Vi National Park Abandoned Church
Finally, here came the highlight of the trip – the abandoned church. To be frank, I wasn’t really looking forward to it at first. I was thinking: “What’s the big deal? Just another church right?” But boy, I was so wrong.
Situated in the middle of the forest, the church was built by the French back more than 130 years ago. After the French left Vietnam, the church has since been abandoned. After so many decades of isolation, the church has been transformed by the nature.
rees grew on top of the church. Their branches and leaves intertwined on the stone wall, forming beautiful natural calligraphy everywhere.
You can also find many interesting carvings on the wall. Those are marks left behind by the past visitors. Although I don’t advocate leaving marks on historical sites, the drawings made the church look even more artistic and special.
All in all, we had so much fun from the Ba Vi National Park trip. The national park is peaceful and clean, and church just made the whole experience so memorable. Our guide Lin was super friendly and informative too. Highly recommended if you want to explore something different outside of Hanoi.

I really enjoyed making this video. It took forever to edit but it was really rewarding. I got to use some drone shots from my previous trip. My drone was a phantom 4 pro which I subsequently crashed. Everything else was shot on a sony a6300 with a dirty sensor and a gopro hero black 7 black. lol

Woke up early in the morning to be on a boat trip to see some spots in the Ba Be National Park. It wasn't a pleasant trip because everything wasn't like I had expected. It is a popular tourist attraction but has got ruined by irresponsibilty and full of trash.
We got back before noon and drove all the way back to Hanoi.
