California to New York: A Complete Road Trip
This is a complete road trip compilation from Santa Monica, California to New York City over eight different days from June-September, 2017 - all recorded in time-lapse at 4fps (nearly 100,000 frames total). Of the 3,253 miles (5,235 kilometers) driven, about 3 miles of this drive is missing, mostly in Colorado near Poncha Springs. Nearly all of this drive was done in daytime, but there is about 10 minutes of this video done in darkness in Arizona (about 1:00:00 to 1:10:00). The weather was good for the most part, except from Pennsylvania all the way to the Bronx, before clearing up in Manhattan. This trip also includes driving through the solar eclipse of August 21 in Nebraska (at about 3:30:00), as well as driving over the old Tappan Zee Bridge in upstate NY, which permanently closed a month later with the opening of the new Mario M Cuomo Bridge adjacent to it.

The highest elevation of the drive was 11,539 ft (3,517 m) at 2:28:10. The highest elevation anywhere on the U.S. interstate system is 11,158 ft (3,401 m) at 2:33:41. Both of these elevations are two of the three continental divide crossings; the other, at 2:04:38 (10,856 ft / 3,309 m), is the first.
The hottest temperature of this trip was 110 F (43 C) in Needles, California (about 0:40:16), and the coldest temperature of this trip was 53 F (11 C) in Tusayan, Arizona (about 1:10:04) - only about 230 miles (370 km) from Needles.

For years, Deb Yavorski of Endicott, N.Y., had a dream. She had long hoped of making an epic horseback ride from the Atlantic coast cross country to the shores of the Pacific Ocean.
She is nearly halfway there.
The 47-year-old rider, who made a brief stop on Tuesday in Marseilles, started her journey at Quoddy Head State Park, the eastern most part of land in the United States, in 2007 and has been on the path westward since then. She rides her Arabian horse, Mercury, while leading a packhorse, Appaloosa, taking the country section by section during the warm months.
Yavorski, who works part-time as a subpostal worker and for an inventory company, got her first horse at age 29 and, from that time, the dream of riding coast-to-coast on saddleback began. Averaging 15 to 25 miles per day, she expects to make it across most of Iowa before cold weather halts her journey for this year.
On an afternoon walk Tuesday, Nick Rubio of Marseilles noticed the rider watering horses near the city park and started up a conversation with Yavorski. Fascinated by her story, Rubio contacted The Times and followed her for a while on his bicycle along U.S. 6. He took photos of the rider and steeds along the way, which he promised to send to her.
Yavorski said her long journey through the heart of America has been amazing and she is constantly overwhelmed by the hospitality of strangers. The slow ride through small towns off the beaten path is fascinating, she added.
She said her horses are not frightened by the traffic she encounters on her highway route and they have been great on the trip so far. Yavorski, who lost her father to cancer recently, said, The slow walk also gives me plenty of time to think.
Her goal is to eventually reach the western shores of Washington state and has no idea how much longer she has in the saddle to reach there.
I'm in no hurry, she said.

You are about to enter Navajo Nation, one of the neatest sections of the AZBDR. This is a wild, untouched part of our country and while visiting here is welcomed, it is a delicate matter. PLEASE respect the land and it's people. Stay on posted roads and keep speeds down. There are a few great opportunities to look down into both the Little Colorado River Canyon and the Grand Canyon itself. The roads are wide and nicely graded with no technical spots or difficult terrain to speak of but keep your eyes open for wild horses and packs of dogs around the modest homes that dot the countryside. Once you leave Navajo Nation you'll have a short slog on pavement before finishing your expedition on 13 miles of fun, mellow dirt roads through Vermillion Cliffs National Monument. Congrats! You've completed the AZBDR and have experienced the best landscapes and riding in Arizona.

You MUST obtain a pass to ride and camp in Navajo Nation. Camping and riding permits are $5 each per person ( cash only). They can be purchased at the small round building at the junction of Hwy 64 and 89 in Cameron. Don't plan on entering these lands after dark after the permit office is closed.

My Luxurious Train Ride On The Rocky Mountaineer
What's better than flying first class? This luxury train service in the Pacific Northwest known as the Rocky Mountaineer. Seems to me like it must be the highest level of service you'd find on a train in North America!
In this video, I take you along with me and my wife for a slightly more than five hour trip from Seattle, Washington to Vancouver, British Columbia in a special rail car that far exceeds the level of service and pampering you'd get on Amtrak.
We boarded at the King Street station in Seattle and headed north on a beautiful route along Puget Sound. The tracks ran right along the water for hours! The views were fantastic and the food, drinks, and level of service provided to the passengers was, too!
This Seattle-Vancouver journey is known as the Coastal Passage, and it's a good alternative for people that can't afford the ultimate Rocky Mountaineer experience: the 2-day journey from Vancouver to Banff.
Some of the points of interest in the video include the Seattle Space Needle, Fairhaven, Bellingham, Surrey, Crescent Beach, and the border between Canada and the United States.
Because we booked the Gold Leaf service rather than the less expensive Silver Leaf class, we rode in a 2-level rail car with a dining room on the bottom level and a glass-domed viewing area on the upper level.

Riding U.S. Route 1, America's East Coast on a custom Harley

Presenter Henry Cole embarks on one of America's most gruelling rides on America's east coast riding some 2100 miles from Boston in the North East to Key West, Florida, the most southern point in America, following the legendary US Route 1.
For this trip Henry has chosen to ride one of the most radical semi custom choppers in production, a Saxon Crown, with no front mudguard, little suspension and a poor excuse for a seat -- the world famous potholes of New York and the tropical rain of Florida will really test him and this beast of a bike to the limit!
Henry starts this ride of a lifetime reflecting on the culture and history of Boston before heading off down US1 into New York, a ride not for the faint hearted. After combating the frentism, weather and heinous traffic of new York, Henry rides south through Philadelphia and Washington D.C., before heading into the sublime sun drenched riding offered up in the states of North and South Carolina.
Henry soon leaves South Carolina and crosses the state line into Georgia revelling in a little light relief offered up by the Laurel and Hardy convention in Harlem, but the satire is short lived as the weather closes in heading into Florida with torrential tropical storms, not the best thing on a custom chop and with a lot of night riding ahead. Henry eventually arrives in Jacksonville, Florida for a spot of line dancing and to briefly dry out. Then its southward through Fort Lauderdale to Miami and finally on down some two hundred miles to journey's end in Key West.
Will this prove to be one of America's greatest motorcycle rides or one huge adventure not to be repeated?

Survival GILL NETTING (Usually ILLEGAL!) | Rare Underwater Footage
I test out the cheapest fishing survival gill net on Amazon in a private stocked pond. Originally, we tried to fish out all our trout, but this got to be quite the job since the fish shied away from worms, and lures (preferring pellet feed). As the season wore on, we decided to try to bowfish, spearfish and now, since it iced over, gill net the pond in effort to harvest all our stocked fish.
I will show you rare underwater video from a go pro of a fish actually being caught in the gill net. I will teach you exactly how to hang and use a gill net to catch fish and the size of the mesh you should use. Should you ever find yourself in a survival situation, a gill net is a huge asset. This gill net is super illegal in most areas, so please be careful using them. Even better, let me test out the gill net! If the nets are legal in your area, you might want to have one nearby in case you are in a survival situation. My Gear (Shop and Support):
I will use an ice auger to drill a channel right through the middle of the pond. Next, we put the gill net underwater. One end of the gill net has floats, the other sinkers, so the idea is to float the gill net in the water column and the fish will try to swim by and get caught in the net and twist all around getting more and more caught up.

Note that roller coasters such as Superman: Escape from Krypton; that ultimately does not make a complete circuit are called shuttle roller coaster and yes, it's still a roller coaster although it's still debatable since the cars don't travel all the way up. 50 state road trip: Scenic drives around the USA
Alabama - Coastal Connection is a National Scenic Byway that stretches from Grand Bay to Dauphin Island over to the beaches of Gulf Shores, and up the coast of Mobile Bay to the Spanish Fort in Daphne.
Alaska - 35 miles north of Anchorage is the Parks Highway, which runs 323 miles to Fairbanks. Not only is it scenic, it also connects the state's two largest cities.
Arizona - The famous stretch of Highway 163 in Arizona is featured in many movies, due to the picturesque Monument Valley as the backdrop.
Arkansas
- Highway 7 is the longest in the state, and part is designated a state scenic byway, due to the drive through some of the most beautiful parts of the Ozark mountains.
California
- The Big Sur coastline is one of the country’s most famous scenic areas, with the Santa Lucia mountains rising from the Pacific Ocean. Take Route 1 to follow the coast.
Colorado - Independence Pass is the highest paved state highway in Colorado, and also one of the most scenic. Beautiful panoramic views of the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains are everywhere.
Connecticut
- A drive referred to as Litchfield Landscapes will take you through old, quaint towns and along country roads with covered bridges through the state.
Delaware - The first state in the USA provides a stunning visit to its first town by traveling along the Lewes Gateway to the Nation Byway. The road also offers beautiful water-filled views of beaches and canals.
Florida - The long stretch of road that connects the southernmost area of Florida with the Keys is called the Overseas Highway. The road offers unlimited views of the ocean surrounding it.
Georgia
- Within the Chattahoochee National Forest in northeast Georgia is the Russell Brasstown Scenic Byway. The 41-mile loop is considered to hold some of the best scenery in the state.
Hawaii - The Road to Hana drive in Maui, which curves along the northeast coast, is considered a bucket list drive, and not only the most beautiful in Hawaii, but one of the most beautiful in the world.
Idaho
- State Highway 97 takes you along the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene and the surrounding Coeur d’Alene National Forest. While driving, keep your eye out for bald eagles, especially in the fall.
Illinois - The Ohio River Scenic Byway in Illinois has various beautiful attractions, but perhaps the most stunning is what is referred to as the Garden of the Gods in Shawnee National Forest.
Indiana

Parke County in Indiana has garnered the nickname the “Covered Bridge Capital” and this 50 mile loop along Route 36 and other country roads will show you more than 30 historic bridges still in use.
Iowa

The Loess Hill Scenic Byway in Iowa is also a National Scenic Byway. Along the western edge of the state, the road takes you along the winding ridges of Loess Hills, which are unique geological formations created during the last ice age.
Kansas
- Kansas is known for its prairie lands, and the Flint Hills National Scenic Byway offers just that. This area is one of the last remaining tallgrass prairie landscapes left in America.
Kentucky
- Old Frankfort Pike is a 16-mile stretch of road in Kentucky, famous for its scenic path through the horse farms that breed famous Derby competitors. Many spots along the route are on the National Registry of Historic Places.
Louisiana

Along the Cane River National Heritage Trail in Louisiana, you will see many quintessential southern sights, such as plantations, cane fields, and magnolias.
Maine

The Schoodic National Scenic Byway in Maine takes you along the state’s beautiful rugged coast. Discover old lighthouses, historic towns, and Acadia National Park, all while taking in the view of Maine’s famous pine trees lining the Atlantic coast.
Maryland

On the western side of Maryland is a stretch of road called the Mountain Maryland Scenic Byway that will take you 193 miles over the ridges of the Alleghenys. Trip highlights include Keyser Ridge, historic Cumberland, and the Youghiogheny river.
Massachusetts

Also referred to as “The King’s Highway”, Cape Cod's Route 6A scenic drive will take you along the famous shores of Massachusetts’ favorite bay, as well as up along the Outer Beach of the Atlantic.
Michigan

The Red Arrow Highway in Michigan takes you along the shores of Lake Michigan through quaint coastal towns. The St. Joseph Lighthouse is a popular scenic attraction.
Minnesota - The North Shore Scenic Drive takes you along the northern coast of Lake Superior, the world’s largest freshwater lake. Bordered by the Sawtooth Mountains, the trip is filled with views of streams with waterfalls and aspen trees as far as the eye can see.
Mississippi
- The Great River Road, which borders the western edge of Mississippi along the river, is another designated National Scenic Byway.
Missouri
- The Little Dixie Byway is a part of the formerly mentioned Great River Road, a 30 mile stretch of the famous highway through Missouri which offers limestone bluffs and other magnificent vie
