Mt Rushmore. Black Hills. South Dakota
A visit to Mt Rushmore has a way of invoking the patriotism in all who visit. Although we have all seen the photographs it is not until you stand under this monolith sculpture that you get a real feel for its awe inspiring size and the magnitude of work it took to create this masterpiece.

RV Life-Wall Drug South Dakota
The Famous Wall Drug community. It's something to see. A little commercialism in the middle of nowhere (lol)
Wall Drug and Arriving at the Badlands Van Life
Take a stop at Wall Drug. My my is Brian. I live on the road full time in myself built camper. Join me on my adventures. In this video I leave Pierre, South Dakota and head towards Badlands National Park. I stop in Wall, South Dakota to check out the infamous Wall Drug. There was a large amount of motorcycles due to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Wall Drug wasn't all that interesting. I then moved just a few miles down the road to my bondocking spot at Buffalo Gap. This is a free dispersed camping area just outside Badlands NP. A very powerful thunder storm moved through my first night there. Also tried making Nachos on the camp stove again. Find this campsite at Thanks for watching!

2017 SOUTH DAKOTA ROADTRIP (with itinerary)
Pictures from a week long trip to South Dakota.
Basic Itinerary-
Day 1- Stayed in Sioux Falls, SD. Spent a few hours at Falls Park, which was a 5min walk from the hotel.
Day 2- Left Sioux Falls and continued on I-90 heading east towards the Badlands. Our first stop was at The Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD. we spent about 1 1/2 hours there. Our second stop was at the Dignity Statue in Chamberlain, SD. We spent about an hour at the nice rest stop there overlooking the vast Missouri River. From there we continued to the Badlands National Park. We also stopped at The Ranch Store where we saw many prairie dogs. after that it was about 10 min to get to the campsite where we would be staying for the night. we stayed in the Cedar Pass campground in the Badlands. The rest of the night we walked around the Badlands and gazed at the stars at the evening ranger program there.
Day 3- We woke up to the sunrise at the Badlands. We got up early and hiked along the Cliff Shelf Nature Trail, where we saw beautiful views of the Badlands and wildlife in the early morning while everyone else was still asleep. (The Sun rose around 5:00am and we went hiking around 6:00am). After we that trail we went back to the campsite to pack up, and eat breakfast at the cedar pass lodge right next to the campsite. After breakfast we headed out to hike The Notch Trail. This trail starts off with a long wooden ladder following along the cliff face and it may be a strenuous hike but it is well worth it. the views are amazing. After that we drove along the scenic loop road to exit the park and then we got back on I-90 to head east towards Rapid City where we would be staying for the next few nights.
Day 4- We spent the day at Custer State Park hiking and driving where we saw plenty of wildlife including buffalo, pronghorn, deer, prairie dogs, and burros.
Day 5- We started off at Custer State Park. From there we headed to The crazy horse memorial. we only spent a few minutes there, quickly continuing on our way to Mt. Rushmore where we spent the rest of the day.
Day 6- We spent the day at Wind Cave National Park where we took a a guided tour of the cave that lasted just over an hour. after that we went hiking through the park along two short trails. We took the scenic drive along Iron Mountain Road to get back to Rapid City.
Day 7- We started off by taking a drive through spearfish canyon stopping to see waterfalls along the way. After that we hiked along a 1 mile trail in order to see Roughlock falls. After that we drove out to Wyoming to see Devils Tower National Monument. We spent a few hours there and then drove along a beautiful scenic route along country roads heading towards Belle Fourche where we had dinner and saw the geographical center of the nation.
Must Stops:
-The Badlands National Park
-Custer State Park
-Mt. Rushmore memorial
-Wind Cave National Park
-the Rankin Ridge hiking trail (Wind Cave)
-The Notch Trail (Badlands)
-Spearfish Canyon and Roughlock Falls
-Devils Tower National Monument
Nice places to visit:
-Falls Park, Has stunning waterfalls and great places to walk around, especially at sunset.
-The Corn Palace, Was under construction for the year while we were there but will look very nice once all construction is completed
-The Dignity Statue, A great place to stop with a wonderful view of the great Missouri River.
-Belle Fourche, a nice small town to stop in on the way back from Devils Tower national monument.
Things to miss:
-The Wall Drug Store, It is a Large, Disorganized, Tourist Trap. Not worth the stop.
-The Crazy Horse Memorial, It is not anywhere close to being finished and it is extremely expensive to do anything but see a bad view of it from the parking lot.
-Lookout Point hiking trail, The name is very misleading it is a long boring hike through very badly maintained trails. there are many more much better trails.

Our family took our first Road trip to South Dakota this June (2018) and it was AMAZING. We stayed at the KOA (palmer Gulch) just miles from Mt. Rushmore. It was a great place for the kids with lots to do including, putt putt, two pools, a park, water slide, rock climbing, grocery store, restaurants, bar, rodeo grounds and much more.
We went to MT. Rushmore, Cosmos mystery area, Custer State Park, Bear Country, Deadwood, Sturgis, Crazy Horse, and more.
I would Highly recommend going on a trip to the Black Hills area if you are into the outdoors, it is Beautiful. We will be going back again soon.

Let's Visit the Mount Rushmore National Memorial
Mount Rushmore is a very iconic landmark in the United States. Located in the Black Hills of South Dakota near Keystone, the monument contains four U.S. presidents sculpted into the mountain. Included at the park is a gift shop, an amphitheater, and some accessible trails providing different views of the monument. Although it is very crowded, it is one monument to definitely check out when visiting western South Dakota.
This video also features my aunt, uncle, and Lauren as special guests!
