▶Options for North Korean Denuclearization
The Korean peninsula is at a crucial turning point now. For the first time in many years, there is an opportunity for the two Koreas and the U.S. to come together to reduce tensions and build a new path for peace and cooperation, not to mention denuclearization. ▶Bravo Youth on Gyodongdo Island
Gyodong-do Island sits within the Civilian Access Control Line and is known for its pristine, peaceful environment... a great respite from the hustle and bustle of the big city. ▶북핵 해법
남북 정상회담과 북미 정상회담을 앞두고 북한의 비핵화 해법에 관심이 집중되고 있다. 최근 존 볼턴 미국 백악관 국가안보보좌관이 '리비아식'해법을 북한에 적용하자고 주장하면서 논쟁에 불을 지폈다. 선 비핵화 후 보상이라는 주장이다. 그러나 김정은 위원장은 북한에 대한 군사적 위협이 해소되고 체제 안전이 보장되면 핵을 보유할 이유가 없다며 북한의 체제 보장을 조건으로 내걸 것으로 보인다. 미국과 북한의 비핵화 속도와 방법이 다를 것으로 예상되는 가운데 한국의 역할이 중요할 것으로 예상된다. 비핵화를 둘러싼 논쟁을 분석해본다.
▶고향의 그리움을 품은 사람들, 청춘부라보
대한민국 최북단 접경지역 섬, 강화도 교동도. 한국전쟁 이후 간척지였던 곳에 농사를 지으며 지금의 교동도를 만들어 온 사람들은 대부분 실향민들이다. 특히 교동도의 중심지라고도 할 수 있는 대룡시장은 피난민들의 애환이 서린 곳으로, 이제는 유명 관광지가 되면서 많은 사람들이 찾는 곳이 됐다. 그렇다보니 작년부터는 평균 연령 87세의 어르신들이 모여 '청춘부라보'라는 프로그램을 운영 중이다. 대룡시장을 찾는 관광객들에게 다양한 이북지역의 음식들과 옛 이야기를 선보이며, 교동을 제2의 고향으로 어르신들의 음식과 생활문화를 세대 공감을 통해 이어나간다는 취지다. '청춘부라보', 어르신들이 말하는 먹먹한 고향에 대한 그리움과 따뜻함을 만나본다.
▶자연의 신비와 전쟁의 상처가 공존하는 곳. 강원도 양구
강원도 양구는 최근 안보관광으로 새롭게 뜨고 있는 지역이다. 한국 전쟁 당시, 휴전선의 최북단에 위치해 전란의 상처가 남아있고 오랫동안 민간에 공개되지 않았던 지역이 많아 원시적인 생태환경이 잘 보존되어 있는데-한국전쟁 당시, 치열한 전투가 있었던 펀치볼 마을과 2004년에야 비로소 개방된 두타연 폭포, 한국 최초 람사르 협약 습지로 등재된 용늪까지-양구의 대표적인 안보관광지를 둘러보고 이곳을 찾은 사람들과 함께 한반도의 평화를 기원해본다.

Five West Sea islands use Korean Unification Flag on fishing vessels 'with hopes for peace'
'평화수역 염원' 서해5도 어민들 어선에 한반도기 단다
Five South Korean islands in the West Sea near the border with North Korea,... have decided to use the Korean Unification Flag on their vessels for all maritime activities.
A civil group from the islands administrated by the city of Incheon held a flag hoisting ceremony last Friday to mark the event.
Around 300 fishermen belong to the group, which is dedicated to creating a peaceful marine zone for fishing.
Their unification flag has the five islands added to the original unification flag that was used at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Driving in South Korea: Incheon Metropolitan City (인천광역시) - The 3rd largest city in Korea
Incheon is the third largest city in Korea after Seoul and Busan.
The population is close to 3 million.
There is Incheon International Airport which is the world's best.
You can also take a boat from Incheon Port (International Passenger Terminal) to China.
As such, Incheon is the gateway to the Republic of Korea.
In this video, you can see the downtown of Incheon city, Nam-gu and Namdong-gu district.
The seaside area like Busan is a bit tricky to drive. But Incheon was easier to drive than I expected. It was so nice. :)

Four S. Korean ministers to visit Baengnyeongdo and Yeonpyeongdo to discuss peace zone in West Sea

The ministers of foreign affairs, unification, as well as defense and fisheries,... will visit the islands of Baengnyeongdo... and Yeonpyeongdo... this weekend.
There the officials will meet the residents and gather opinions about turning the areas near,... a maritime demarcation line dividing the two Koreas,... into a peace zone,.... in accordance with the Panmunjom Declaration.

It will be the first time that South Korea's heads of the foreign affairs, unification, defense and fisheries ministries,... all visit Baengnyeongdo Island and Yeonpyeongdo Island,... located just south of the Northern Limit Line,... a de-facto maritime demarcation line in the West Sea between South and North Korea.
The line was drawn in 1953 after the Korean War,... and had been respected by both Koreas,... until North Korea claimed a new maritime border back in 1999.
South Korea's defense ministry officials said Friday that the four ministers plan to visit both islands on Saturday,... to meet the residents of the islands and to listen to their opinions about the part of the Panmunjom Declaration,... in which both Koreas agreed to devise a practical scheme to turn the areas around the Northern Limit Line in the West Sea into a maritime peace zone,... in order to prevent accidental military clashes and guarantee safe fishing activities.
The defense ministry also plans to discuss ways to establish a peace zone,... near the northern limit line,.... in the West Sea during inter-Korean military talks,... including the general-level talks slated for later this month.
The areas near the northern limit line in the West Sea have been a powder keg in inter-Korean relations--- the First Battle of Yeonpyeong in 1999, the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong in 2002,... the Battle of Daecheong in 2009,... and the South Korean warship Cheonan's sinking in 2010 by a North Korean torpedo attack all took place in the region.
Meanwhile,... South Korea's defense ministry has organized a task force,...led by defense minister Song Young-moo,... and made up of key defense ministry officials and the Joint Chiefs of Staff,... as well as defense experts,... to effectively carry out the Panmunjom Declaration.

Baengnyeong Island is a 45.8-square-kilometre , 8.45 kilometres long and 12.56 kilometres wide island in Ongjin County, Incheon, South Korea, located near the Northern Limit Line.The 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement which ended the Korean War specified that the five islands including Baengnyeong Island would remain under United Nations Command and South Korean control.This agreement was signed by both the DPRK and the United Nations Command.Since then, it serves as a maritime demarcation between North and South Korea in the Yellow Sea.

Satellite images show majority of fine dust in S. Korea originates from China

South Korea has been forced to endure record-breaking levels of fine dust in recent days.
The government has pledged to take strong measures to try and mitigate the severe public health issue,... but the debate still rages about where most of the dust originates from: is it China or closer to home?
Lee Seung-jae reports.
South Korea's Baengnyeongdo Island,... an island off the coast of Incheon in the West Sea.
Located near the Northern Limit Line,... the area is rich in oceanic fauna and bird diversity,... and is considered one of the least polluted parts of South Korea.
While the island usually sees 10 to 30 micrograms of fine dust on a normal day,... starting last Friday,... levels began to skyrocket,... going from 97 to 120 micrograms ,... before eventually peaking at 159 .
Satellite images show fine dust levels soar on the Korean Peninsula when western winds blow in from China.
Not to be mistaken for clouds,... the images you are watching show toxic smog and fine dust being blown in from China's northeast.
Most of the worst fine dust comes from outside Korea. The rapid rise of fine dust concentration levels is due to overseas factors and it seems to be smog from China.
While there's plenty South Korea can do to reduce its own emissions, researchers say it's clear the only possible way to solve the problem is to get China to take the fine dust issue much more seriously.

Incheon also Inchon, is a city in South Korea on the coast directly to the west of Seoul. Incheon is an historically and economically significant place for Koreans. During the Korean War, the city was the site of the Incheon Landing by American forces. Today, Incheon is a metropolitan city with the population of about 2.8 million, politically independent from Seoul. Also, the city serves as a transportation hub by air and sea, with a massive harbor and the world best international airport. Several beautiful islands, such as Yeongjong Island and Ganghwa Island, are also within city limits.
Incheon has since led the economic development of Korea by opening its port to the outside world, ushering in the modernization of Korea as a center of industrialization. In 2003, the city was designated as Korea's first free economic zone. Since then, large local companies and global enterprises have increasingly invested in the Incheon Free Economic Zone, including Samsung which chose Songdo International City as its new investment destination for its bio industry.
As an international city, Incheon has held numerous large scale international conferences, such as the Incheon Global Fair & Festival in 2009. The 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014 was also held in Incheon on 19 September 2014. Incheon has established itself as a major transportation hub in northeast Asia with the Incheon International Airport and Incheon Port. The city is also home to the Green Climate Fund, an international organization addressing environmental issues.
Local service to Guro, Seoul, Cheongnyangni, Uijeongbu and Soyosan is offered by Seoul's subway Line 1. The line has 11 stations within Incheon and connects to the Incheon Subway at Bupyeong and Juan stations. Incheon Bus Terminal, located at its eponymous subway stop, offers express bus transportation to all parts of Korea. Many city bus lines offer transportation within city limits as well as to the neighboring cities of Bucheon, Gimpo, Seoul, and Siheung.
