Episode 12: Bahrain - which name means two seas - was one of the first states in the Gulf to discover oil and to build a refinery. The Bahrain International Circuit (Arabic: حلبة البحرين الدولية) is a motorsport venue opened in 2004 and used for drag racing, GP2 Series and the annual Bahrain Grand Prix.

It is a warren of narrow streets and alleyways emanating south from Bab Al Bahrain. Here you can pick up everything from electronic goods, gold and bargain t-shirts to spices and shisha pipes. But the real reason to visit is to wander through the bustling streets of a market that still evokes the atmosphere of an ancient souq.

Bahrain International Circuit
Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) offers a wide array of services and activities that cater to the needs and interests of the motorsport-loving community of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the region.

BIKC is a grade ‘A’ homologated track that became the first ever to host world championship-level sprints under floodlights, and the public is welcome to race here on a daily basis.
Aside from racing, there’s also plenty that can be done at BIC off the track. The world-class venue that features the most modern facilities is capable of hosting global conferences, major corporate events, grand public exhibitions and even charitable and social occasions.

Bahrain International Circuit
OUR STORY
Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) is an ultramodern motorsport facility that is located in the heart of the Sakhir desert. Designed by the renowned German engineer Hermann Tilke, the circuit incorporates many features of local culture.
Costing approximately $150 million, the entire facility took less than 18 months to build – quite a feat considering the massive undertaking that was needed to develop the land.
BIC features five FIA certified track layouts, more than anywhere else in the world . This allows the circuit to host a range of motor racing events. The 5.412-kilometre Grand Prix Track regularly hosts international races, including the Formula One Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, the FIA World Endurance Championship Six Hours of Bahrain, races in the GP2 Series and the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

2014 inaugural night race 2014 INAUGURAL NIGHT RACE
In 2014, the circuit celebrated its landmark 10th anniversary by introducing a state-of-the-art floodlight system. This led to the Bahrain Grand Prix being held as a night race for the first time, ushering in a new era for the circuit.
Night racing is now a major fixture at BIC, allowing the circuit to offer new opportunities to motorsport enthusiasts such as the introduction of night time open track, night races in BIC 2,000cc Challenge or BMR 600 Championship.

OFF TRACK
More than just a racing facility MORE THAN JUST A RACING FACILITY
BIC is also a favourite venue for hosting a range of off-track events. Some of the major non-racing events held at the circuit include the Bahrain International Air Show, the Bahrain International Motor Show and Challenge Bahrain triathlon to name a few.
Throughout the year, corporate events take place at BIC. Exclusive lounges, hospitality suites and function rooms make a perfect location for product launches, client receptions, business conferences and large-scale outdoor events. Social events such as weddings, music concerts and charity occasions are also hosted.

Full post - On a recent business trip to Bahrain, we were given a fantastic tour of Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) which is the home of motorsport in the Middle East and hosts the Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix.
We got to take a drive on the track and had a tour of the race tower and race control room where all the official decisions are made about the race!

Bahrain International Circuit Land Rover Experience
We decided to do the Land Rover Experience at Bahrain National Circuit as passengers. Located in the heart of the Sakhir desert, the track offered 3.5 kilometers of “varying terrains such as sand, rock, hill and water landscapes.” The track also featured 32 “natural and man-made obstacles such as slide slopes, humps, rocks, gravel roads and watercourses” (
I was somewhat terrified during the experience as the car took us up and down angles I never thought possible! We drove through water, traveled up and down stairs and more.
