Bakewell is a small market town and civil parish in the Derbyshire Dales district of Derbyshire, England, well known for the local confection Bakewell pudding (often mistaken for the Bakewell tart). It is located on the River Wye, about thirteen miles (21 km) southwest of Sheffield.

Bakewell. A visitors guide
Bakewell, located in the Peak District, in the beautiful county of Derbyshire is rich in history and tradition and has many events throughout the year and hosts a country show every August.
Bakewell gets it's name from the Anglo Saxon words for ‘bath-spring’. These early settlers were attracted to the warm springs and wells in the area.
It is easy to get to Bakewell, which is less than 37 miles from Manchester airport and takes approximately one hour travelling through unspoilt countryside.
Although popular in other local towns, in the 17th century they was a failed attempt to change the town in to a fashionable spa.
There are many places of interest that you can visit, including the historical houses of Haddon hall and Chatsworth House, which is the seat to the current Earl of Devonshire.
In addition, you can visit the ancient stone circle at Arbor Low or take a bike ride on the Monsal Trial, an old disused railway line. Climb the white peak or look around the Lumford Mill, take a boat ride on the peak forest canal or go to the famous Bakewell farmers market. All information can be found at the tourist centre.
There are plenty of places to stay, for example the Reckoning hotel, The Coach House, the cartwheel, catcliffe cottage or the greyhound Hotel.

Chatsworth House in Derbyshire UK - Visiting Pemberley Home of Mr Darcy
Chatsworth House is a stately home in Derbyshire, England, in the Derbyshire Dales 3.5 miles northeast of the village of Bakewell.
The seat of the Duke of Devonshire, it has been home to the Cavendish family since 1549, it has evolved through the centuries to reflect the tastes, passions and interests of succeeding generations.
Chatsworth House has over 30 rooms to explore, from the magnificent Painted Hall, to the family-used chapel, regal State Rooms and beautiful Sculpture Gallery. Chatsworth also houses the Devonshire Collection, one of Europe's most significant art collections, which is continually added to, encompassing Old Masters to contemporary ceramics and artefacts from Ancient Egypt to cutting edge modern sculpture.
105 acres of stunning gardens, miles of footpaths, extravagant water features, outdoor art exhibitions, surprises at every turn, rose, cottage, sensory and kitchen gardens, and magnificent views of the park.
The house has also played parts in many films, the most famous being Pride and Prejudice from 2005 with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen.
Haddon Tunnel, Bakewell, Derbyshire
Although the line closed in 1967, it has historic interest, for it was on the Midland Railway (and LMS) main line from London to Manchester, and there are ambitious plans by Peak Rail to reopen it as part of its extension to Bakewell.
It had been constructed entirely to hide it from the view of the Duke of Rutland where the line passed Haddon Hall. It is 1,058 yards (967 m) long and, being close to the surface, it was mostly built by the 'cut and cover' method. There were five ventilation shafts, one being the full width of the double-track tunnel, the deepest being only 12 feet (3.7 m).
Shortly after the headings met, part of it collapsed, killing four workers outright, and wounding another so seriously that he died the following day. The railway paid £100 compensation to each of their families.
Following closure, the trackbed and tunnel was reincorporated into the Haddon Estate. The long campaign by Peak Rail and others culminated in a feasibility study by Derbyshire County Council in 2004, the Haddon Estate being a major opponent of the plan.

Sudbury Hall and National Trust Museum of Childhood. June 2014
Had a really enjoyable time at Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood. Sudbury Hall dates back to the 17th Century and was where the BBC's adaptation of Pride & Prejudice was filmed (1995), based on a novel by Jane Austen.
... The Museum of Childhood (start time 07:43) is adjacent to Sudbury Hall and houses interactive toys & games as well as a vast archive of childhood memories over the last century. Was wonderful to see the children of today mesmerized and captivated by a bygone age pre-internet and computers. My video is a mere fraction of what both have on offer, but gives you a flavour of the National Trust's historic site in Derbyshire. I'd thoroughly recommend you visit if you get the opportunity.
