Honoring Bruce Caldwell
In 1968, just three days after his high school graduation, the legendary founder of Ballet West, Mr. Willam Christensen offered Bruce Caldwell his first contract. It paid $25 a month. Fifty years later, Bruce is the torchbearer for the legacies and traditions of Ballet West as Ballet Master and Archivist. At the opening of the company’s 55th season, Salt Lake City honors Bruce on his contributions to the arts and a remarkable legacy in this community.

More than 500 children from around the intermountain west auditioned for the chance to be in the farewell 2016 production of Ballet West's Nutcracker. The Nutcracker will return in 2017 with new sets, costumes and special effects.

Heather Hayes Salt Lake City and the Arts
My first interview is with my neighbor and friend, Heather Hayes. Heather writes regularly for the Deseret News as an arts writer and reviewer. She also writes frequently for Wasatch Woman magazine, and has worked as a feature writer, dining reviewer and “Near and Far” section writer for Charlotte Parent magazine. Her work has also been featured in North Carolina's Our State magazine and Atlanta Parent magazine.
A native of Salt Lake City, Hayes is glad to be back in her hometown with its pristine mountains and major-league arts scene. Trained extensively in classical music and ballet, she worked as playbill editor and writer-in-residence on the staff of Ballet West for a number of years. Hayes is a guitar instructor, has sung lead in several folk/rock bands and is a member of the Salt Lake Choral Artists. She has four children, loves skiing, cooking and cheering for the University of Utah, where she graduated cum laude with a B.A. in communications and a B.S. in political science.

Utah Dance Artists (UDA) was founded in 2001 by Brooke Maxwell. The business has grown from a one room, basement dance studio to one of the largest dance studios in the Salt Lake Valley.
UDA is conveniently located in South Jordan, Utah (easy access from I-15 off 106th and 114th south exits) and in Draper (directly west of I-15 on the frontage road at 12896 South).
Utah Dance Artists offers dance classes for dancers age 18 months - 18 years old in the genres of ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, modern, contemporary, hip-hop, ballroom and tumbling. We offer programs and teams for beginner through pre-professional levels, valuing every student’s education and opportunity for growth.
We proudly serve residents from South Jordan, Riverton, Herriman, Bluffdale, Draper, Sandy, Cottonwood Heights, West Jordan, Murray, Holladay, Taylorsville, West Valley City, Midvale, Salt Lake City, Lehi, Saratoga Springs and Eagle Mountain.
