Bangor to Groomsport: The North Down Coastal Path (Northern Ireland)
Walking from Bangor to Groomsport on the North Down Coastal Path (Northern Ireland) following full itinerary as here: Leaving from central Bangor seafront (Bangor Marina and Bangor Eisenhower Pier) and following the Long Hole Harbour along Seacliff Road, past Kingsland, the Royal Ulster Yacht Club and Ballyholme Yacht Club to reach the Bangor suburb of Ballyholme. The path then follows the rather vast Ballyholme Beach to the coastal path past Ballymacormick Point until the Groomport Harbour at the large village of Groomsport. The North Down Coastal Path then continues past Orlock Point until it finally reaches the final exit at Portavoe and the main road towards Donaghadee.

We then drove along the coastline, through a series of villages, threaded together like beads on a necklace; including Groomsport, North Down, Donaghadee, Millsle, Ballywater, Portavogie, Cloghy, Kearney, and Portaferry. Each village was highly scenic, built on the seafront, usually with a long sandy beach, with an artificial breakwater creating a yacht harbour. Yachts are moored along the coast, reflecting off the blue water below cloud-flecked skies. Buildings lining the stone breakwater walls are usually three or four stories in height and like most Irish buildings are usually freshly painted, usually a bright white colour. At Portavogie we encountered a genuine fishing harbour with twenty or so ocean-going trawlers crowded into the harbour, sporting a confusion of masts, radio antennas and booms. Each boat flew a union jack, the breakwater was painted red, white and blue and murals were painted on the roadway and nearby buildings. There can be no mistaking the loyalty to England offered by this small fishing village or the strength of the local Ulster Volunteer Brigade. We moved further south passing local pubs, but Richard was getting tired of driving these very narrow roads with sharp curves, and a constant stream of oncoming threatening traffic hogging the tarmac

Walk through Bangor, County Down
I wanted to show how beautiful Bangor, County Down is, and also for my own viewing when I'm feeling homesick at uni in England. I love Bangor. It was one a popular holiday destination and went downhill for a while. They're rejuvenating and renovating parts of the quay and coast line to provide more for the people living here and also in hopes to attract more tourism. There is plenty to see here already as the town sits, and I would recommend anyone to come visit and see it for yourself. There are plenty of coastal destinations here in Northern Ireland, plenty of forests and woodlands to explore and the town centre itself is beautiful to stroll through. I love it even on the rainiest of days but here in this video you can see its true beauty in the sunlight.

STORYLINE
Heavy rain caused delays to the start of events at China's national stadium on day 13 of the Olympic Games.
Queues of spectators snaked along roads outside the stadium as heavy rain dampened the early morning enthusiasm.
Men's javelin qualifying groups, women's high jump qualifying and decathlon long jump and shot put were all delayed by between 30 minutes and an hour.
Visibility was severely reduced by the rain, but the Olympic flame could still be seen through the morning mist - it will burn bright until Sunday night when the closing ceremony of the 2008 games will take place inside the stadium known for it's design as the Birds Nest.
Chinese spirits were initially lifted by news that their girls - Xue Chen and Zhang Xi - had won China's first medal in beach volleyball, beating a Brazilian pair of Talita and Renata for the bronze.
Home nation supporters were determined the weather was not going to stop them coming out in large numbers.
Late arrivals at the beach volleyball venue were still outside queuing whilst inside the players faced steady rain that soaked them and left both teams hitting a heavy ball.
Xue and Zhang won 21-19, 21-17.
However, in the following competition for the gold medal China's top team, Tian Jia and Wang Jie, were beaten by Americans Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor.
The Americans, playing through a steady downpour of rain, won the match 21-18, 21-18.
Walsh and May-Treanor, who did not lose a single set in Beijing, extended their winning streak to 108 matches in a row.
