Giant Monitor Lizard
Giant Monitor Lizard
The Asian water monitor (Varanus Salvator), also called common water monitor, is a large varanid lizard native to South and Southeast Asia and is also called Malayan water monitor, common water monitor, two-banded monitor, rice lizard, ring lizard, plain lizard and no-mark lizard, as well as simply water monitor. Monitor lizards have a long and flattened body which can easily grow over 2 meters in length. They have a long neck and an extremely elongated, slender, forked tongue, similar to that of snakes. They intimidate predators by lashing out with their tails, inflating their throats, hissing loudly, turning sideways, and compressing their bodies. They are mostly terrestrial, but many are agile climbers and good swimmers. If the monitor lizard does not feel threatened it will never attack you and therefore not dangerous to humans.
In India Monitor Lizards are an endangered species today and is listed in Schedule I of Indian Wildlife Act. According to the IUCN Red List of threatened species, most of the monitor lizards species still fall in the categories of least concern, but the population is decreasing globally.
This movie was taken in the Bangkok green lung shortly after excavators bared his land and its in search of a new habitat. In Thailand the Monitor Lizard it is often called 'small crocodile'.
Many organizations and governments shout out loud that they are involved in projects protecting our environment and also sustainability. What can be noticed however is that the only sustainability they are actually interested in is having their own business being sustainable but it sadly has nothing to do with preserving nature on our planet. Whenever these bigger enterprises are contacted about their claim to be involved in environmental protection you will rarely get a reply. The objective should be to conserve natural resources and the existing natural environment and, where possible, to repair damage and reverse trends.
If they are not doing it individuals like us still can. We can start by sharing the devastation to make people aware that it is actually happening. The bigger the group of individuals the more organizations and governments will be urged and get interested to take real steps in the real world instead of only the virtual one on screen or paper.
If we all contribute a tiny bit the effect will be huge. Start yourself today and dispose of 1 piece of plastic or foam waste in the right manner per day. That's 7.5 billion pieces of harmfull waste being removed from our soil in a single day. Think....
Our Bamboo Bicycle Tour companies were set up to bring awareness that simple things can contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment where we can live in close harmony with the birds and the bees.
Once we raised the funds our company will start our projects to make people aware of how they can contribute themselves and profit from the tiny bit of effort it will cost them.
The way you can contribute now is to simply follow and subscribe to this youtube channel.
Start acting today and get aware that our environment is fragile. Let us save what is still left.

Co van Kessel Bicycle tours Bangkok
Co van Kessel Bicycle tours Bangkok
The REAL Bangkok…
Looking for an authentic and unique adventure? Co van Kessel bike tours and boat tours provides a refreshing alternative to the tired tourist experience. We do not battle the crowds at clichéd destinations promoted in guide books, but turn your attention to quaint local communities and charming excursions into the fascinating lifestyle and culture of real Thai people. Every day is different and every tour is a surprise as we focus not on destinations, but lose ourselves in the enchantment of the journey itself.
Co van Kessel, an innovative and adventurous Dutchman, pioneered bicycle tours in Bangkok more than 30 years ago. As a longtime resident and self-professed lover of Bangkok, he understood very well the picture of accelerated urban development (gridlocked traffic, concrete towers, and choking pollution) that has plagued the recent image of the city. He also had a hunch that this was not what Bangkok or Thailand was all about.
Making it his goal to re-discover Bangkok, Co spent thousands of hours on his mountain bike exploring the vast network of local streets, alleyways, footpaths and canals between the main urban thoroughfares. What he found, lurking behind the facade of modernization, were hidden worlds of peace and tranquility, a picture of “real” Thai life that has remained unchanged for countless decades; an identity of a city that is true to the Thai people, yet largely unknown to outsiders.
Whether it’s the colorful sights and smells of the local markets, the fascinating life of locals along the canals, or the surprising existence of bountiful green belts, Co discovered the essence of what makes Bangkok one of Asia’s most captivating cities. Since then, it has been his mission to share these discoveries with the rest of the world.
Sadly, with his passing in July, 2012, Co is no longer with us to see his vision through. However, armed with not only his inspiration, but also his bountiful knowledge, the CVK team will now carry on the torch of bicycle-based discovery in Bangkok… just the way Co would have wanted it!
What we do
Our mission at Co van Kessel Bangkok Tours is to provide our guests with a singularly unique travel experience in Thailand. All our tours use Co’s extensive topographical knowledge of the greater Bangkok area as well as his keen eye for the interesting to take you where nobody else can or will.
We aim not to bore you with talk, but to immerse you in an experience where your individual fascinations emerge.
Bicycles, boats, and our feet become the tools we use to gain access to the previously inaccessible, behind-the-scenes lifestyle of the Thai. Here the roots of an ancient culture will become evident in a way you never could have imagined.
