Vietnamese Bamboo Palm Leaf Conical Hat, Chuong Conical Hat Village, Hanoi, Vietnam
Welcome to Chuong Village, the most famous conical hat (non) making village in northern Vietnam.
“Non quai thao” a kind of conical hat with fringe hanging at both sides) has a unique beauty with pink fringes, 2 yellow and red silk tassels, which is suitable for girls in spring festivals, village festivities, “cheo” and “quan ho” folk music festivals.
Making a hat is a painstaking process, from choosing leaves, to rubbing in sand, then drying them under the sun; afterwards a ploughshare is used to stretch them flat without breaking them. The circle of the hat is made from the bark of bamboo. Each hat has 16 circles, causing the hat to be firm but supple.
Non from Chuong Village are well-known not only throughout Vietnam but also in China, Japan and Europe, where they are exported to. In the past, non from Chuong Village were sent to imperial palaces for queens, princesses and high-ranking ladies.

Adventures with the Buays- Vietnam Part 1: Hanoi
Just a snippet of the amazing part 1/4 of our family Vietnam trip!
Hanoi was such a beautiful, busy, bustling city with so much warmth and such a welcoming atmosphere.
The daily deluge of motorcycles simply got mixed together with all the other sounds and smells, all of which were an incredible assault on the senses.
Here, shops opened early into the morning and late into the night, which let us explore every little nook and cranny of the amazing places we heard of.
Everywhere, there were unique little street vendors selling cute little crafts.
Our tour guide took us on an EPIC food tour of the city, which you will witness in this video!!!
Enjoy!!!!

Walking Tour of Hanoi's Old Quarter | LIVESTREAM VIETNAM #3
It felt good to Livestream again! And apologies for the end of the video getting cut off. Happens sometimes when doing mobile phone livestreaming.
So this walking tour was of Hanoi's famous Old Quarter, the oldest area of Hanoi with origins dating back more than 2,000 years!
It's also the most condensed area of Hanoi, with over 70+ streets and alleys, and tons of shops selling everything from bamboo ladders and silk pajamas to egg coffee and world-famous street food.
My livestream of Old Quarter does it no justice, it's just one of those places that you need to see and experience yourself!

Chả Cá Lã Vọng Hà Nội ngày nay #hnp
Hà Nội Phố: Hanoi Grilled Fish Chả Cá Lã Vọng Might not be the oldest dish of Hanoi as it has only been around for over a hundred years, but “Chả Cá Lã Vọng” or “Chả Cá Hà Nội” is definitely the most unique among best known dishes of the capital city.
The origin of this dish dates back to the early 1900s when Vietnam was a French colony. Đoàn family, who lived at 14 Hàng Sơn Street, often hosted secret meetings for the resistance army. Therefore they decided to sell this home cook fish dish as a cover in addition to earning more money. The people called it “Chả Cá Lã Vọng” after the statue of “Lã Vọng”, a Chinese poet and revolutionist, sitting at the gate of the house. The delicious taste of “Chả Cá” soon made it popular, so much that the whole street was named after it later on.
The fish used in this dish is Hemibagrus, a type of Catfish caught in the rivers of the northern mountainous area. It is one of the biggest river fishes thus very easy to remove all bones to have a big fillet. The fish is cut into matchbox-sized pieces, marinated in galangal and turmeric along with other spices. Then the spiced fish pieces are placed into bamboo clips to be grilled on charcoal until both sides are almost cooked. After that, the fish is put into a frying pan with hot oil, together with dill and spring onion for a short time.
“Chả Cá” must be served while hot with rice vermicelli, fried peanuts and coriander, all to be dipped into Vietnamese dipping sauce (contains fish sauce, vinegar, salt, sugar, garlic) or shrimp pate (“mắm tôm”) mixed with lime juice. The grilled fish pieces must not be broken or too dry, but are yellow, tasty, fresh and fatty.
Although “Chả Cá” can be found in many restaurants even around the world, the orginal “Chả Cá Lã Vọng” is still open for locals and tourist after five generations. It is in the old quarter, at 14 Chả Cá Street, which is only 5 minutes away by car or 15 minutes on foot from Silk Path Hotel Hanoi. Or you can also enjoy this delectable dish right here in our Belissimo restaurant to receive the best service. Vietnam Diaries # 9, Artists of Vietnam , God of Small Things small wonder
Artful Vietnamese
Welcome to this episode of Vietnam diaries.
In this episode, we will show you how skilled are Vietnamese artists.
The fine art of silk painting.
The traditional Vietnamese art of silk painting has become famous around the world for its simple poetic themes and vibrant colors. The success of a silk painting very much depends on the quality of the silk, and this depends on many factors, from the quality of cocoons to the decisive techniques of starching and weaving.
First let us take a look at how silk is made.
Differently with other kinds of paintings, the silk canvas are usually not painted. The Vietnamese traditional silk painting style tends to use the silk canvas directly as the background of the painting. The colors are used delicately with the canvas to make Vietnamese silk paintings. Whatever style they follow, silk painters must have an intimate knowledge of the material and fully exploit its shininess and its attractiveness. Painting silk is full of changing and unexpected characteristics, and a wrong stroke of the brush is irreversible.
These paintings are made by the Vietnamese artists in Hue, central of Vietnam (110km from North of Da Nang.)
Each painting is a great description of the beautiful nature and talented skills of the Vietnamese.
Danang marble statues-
Vietnamese are highly skillful and they can carve beautiful statues with marble. There are lots of reason why marble is wonderful for the statues or sculpture. Marble is almost right density to handle, curve, and glossy once polished. Mable is also a good and best stone for human statues.
There are four basic methods of creating sculpture: Modeling, Assemblage, Casting and Carving.
Carving is a subtractive sculpting technique in which the sculptor chips away from the chosen material. Assembling is an additive sculpting technique that involves bringing materials together to form an art piece.
We could see a lot of marble works which are beautiful and exotic.
There is a huge market for these marble statues. These are exported to the world as well.
There are different marble types based on the colors. White marble, cream marble, black , red, brown and pink marble.
White marble Inspires purity and neatness, as well as providing light and spaciousness to any home or space, particularly when not combined with any other type of marble.
The cream shade combines perfectly with the wide range of existing natural colors, such as ivory and beige.
Black is the colour most commonly associated to luxury and elegance.
No doubt, Vietnam artists are highly skilled. There is a huge industry for their products. However there is room for standardization and marketing. And Vietnam is getting aggressive in this.
