Univ. of Missouri-St. Louis Jazz Ensemble with John Fedchock at JEN 2018
Alabama Music Office.com goes to the 9th annual Jazz Education Network Conference in Dallas,Texas to attend a performance by University of Missouri-St. Louis Jazz Ensemble with
John Fedchock. JEN 2018 was centered around the theme borrowed from Charlie Parker's 1945 composition, Now's the Time!
John Fedchock’s illustrious career in jazz has spanned over three decades. Since his emergence on the scene in 1980, Fedchock has established himself as a world-class trombone soloist, a heralded bandleader, and a Grammy-nominated arranger. An in-demand performer and writer in New York City, his multifaceted talents have led him to become one of NYC’s premier jazz artists. His critically acclaimed John Fedchock New York Big Band has become a marquee group, showcasing Fedchock’s trombone and arranging as well as the band’s all-star soloists. The JFNYBB’s five CDs on the MAMA and Reservoir Music labels have all received high praise from critics and extraordinary success on national jazz radio charts. The early success of the band resulted in Fedchock’s name appearing in DOWNBEAT’s Readers Poll under the categories of Trombone, Arranger and Big Band, simultaneously for several consecutive years. In recognition of his formidable arranging skills, Fedchock is a two-time GRAMMY Award nominee for “Best Instrumental Arrangement”. The JFNYBB’s recordings have appeared in jazz radio’s Top Ten, and the New York Times has applauded the band’s “Cheerful Syncopation, Served With Spit-and-Polish Precision.” Small group projects with his quartet and NY Sextet showcase A-list sidemen along with Fedchock’s “incomparable trombone playing, which seems to have no limit, technically or musically” (JazzReview.com).
Fedchock began his career as a jazz trombonist when he joined the legendary Woody Herman Orchestra in 1980. He toured with Woody’s “Thundering Herd” for seven years, during which time he was musical director and a featured soloist. He served as musical coordinator and chief arranger in the production of Herman’s last two Grammy Award nominated albums “50th Anniversary Tour” and “Woody’s Gold Star”, and received accolades from jazz journalists worldwide. Famed jazz critic Leonard Feather called him the “unsung hero” of Woody’s “50th Anniversary Tour” album and Woody said of Fedchock, “He’s my right hand man. Everything I ask of John he accomplishes, and I ask a lot. He’s a major talent.” DOWNBEAT magazine stated that, “it was the young blood of musicians like Fedchock that helped keep Woody Herman’s last years musically healthy and growing”. Fedchock still maintains a close association with the Herman orchestra, performing with the group on occasion and continuing to add his own compositions and arrangements to the band’s library.
Fedchock has toured with T.S. Monk, Gerry Mulligan Concert Jazz Band, Louie Bellson Big Band, Bob Belden Ensemble, Manhattan Jazz Orchestra, Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, and has performed at jazz festivals and concert halls around the world. As a solo artist, he appears throughout the United States and abroad performing as guest trombonist/composer/conductor. To add to his already diverse list of multiple talents, Fedchock is also a producer of note, and has lent his studio expertise to several recent recording projects.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Fedchock is a graduate of The Ohio State University with degrees in Music Education and Jazz Studies. He also holds a master’s degree in Jazz Studies And Contemporary Media from the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. He is an in-demand clinician, and conducts seminars and workshops at colleges and universities across the country. His compositions and arrangements are published by Jazzlines Publications, Kendor Music Inc, and Walrus Music Publishing. John Fedchock is a trombone artist for XO Professional Brass and plays XO trombones exclusively. His collaboration with the prominent instrument company to create the XO1632 trombone has proven to be an overwhelming success in both innovative design and industry popularity.

GLORIA !! Attorney Judge Mike Carter & Cardinal Cowboy Dancin With St Louis Blues Mascot LOUIE
GLORIA ST LOUIS BLUES vs BRUINS STANLEY CUP
Cowboy Judge Show — Louie - St. Louis Blues Mascot DANCIN TO GLORIA ON Cowboy & Judge Show !!!
With HOSTS Cardinal Cowboy & Municipal Judge Mike Carter
During. St. Louis Ambush Mascot Madness!!!
Judge Attorney Michael Carter has lived in St Charles county since 1994. However he was born in North St. Louis County and primarily grew up near North Hanley & 270 in a highly integrated apartment complex by the name of Morningside Apartments. In the 9th grade his family moved off of Howdershell/McDonnell Blvd. while Carter attended Hazelwood West.
Immediately out of high school Mike started work in the family real estate business. After 5+ years in the trade (he is still a broker) Carter decided to complete his college education and pursue political science, philosophy, journalism, law, and marketing. During this educational trek Carter drove for UPS, bartended at Applebee's and worked for years as a graduate teaching assistant. (he continued to teach marketing at Mizzou & UMSL for ~14 years)
Ultimately, Mike obtained his bachelors in philosophy/poli-sci, juris doctorate, and masters of journalism from UMSL and MIZZOU.
After graduating Michael went to work for Fleishman Hillard in the Public Affairs department. However, with enough business coming in from family and friends the Judge started his own law Firm — Carter Law Offices, LLC in St. Charles, MO. (handling real estate, criminal, and corporate law)
Michael is the municipal judge of Wentzville, president of Carter Law Offices, broker of Homes USA, and general counsel / COO for one of the largest employers in the St Charles county area — recently negotiating the multi-million dollar deal to name Car Shield Field, the home of the River City Rascals.
In his many years as Wentzville’s municipal judge, Carter was ahead of the curve in implementing sweeping changes to Wentzville’s court before the advent of statewide senate bills 5 & 572 which ultimately brought the state’s municipal courts in line with Carter’s municipal court efforts. Area circuit judges have commended Judge Carter for his forward-looking efforts and wrote letters of accolades to his city aldermen and mayor to express such.
Carter also worked for years to help successfully ban red-light cameras in St. Charles County thereby severely impacting their use statewide as well.
Judge Carter is concerned with the entire St Louis metro area and hopes to specifically draw attention to goings on in St Charles County — politics, charities, businesses, entertainment, sports, and more — because important specific local coverage for this county is something the area needs much more of.

Tasting Louis XIII Cognac Like Royalty [Lap of Luxury]
A cognac named for a king has been enjoyed by royalty and celebrities for nearly 150 years. In this Lap of Luxury, we went to The Bar at the Baccarat Hotel to taste the extraordinary Louis XIII cognac.
Baptiste Loiseau, the cellar master at Louis XIII, says this is a cognac with a long history, created in 1874 by Paul-Emile Rémy Martin. He wanted to highlight the superiority of the first terroir, the first cru, where they grow the best grapes in the Cognac region.
This region, Baptiste explains, is in the Southwest of France, about 100 kilometers north of Bordeaux. The vineyards there are influenced by the Atlantic Ocean and are home to white grapes.
In September and October, these white grapes are harvested to obtain wine that is double distilled in small copper pots to create what the French call eau de vie, which means water of life. It is a crystal clear and pure eau de vie that will be suitable for aging for decades and decades.
Baptiste then uses those aged eaux de vie in blending sessions to create, each year, a finer blend of Louis XIII.
Baptiste has been the cellar master at Louis XIII since 2014. Taking over at 34, he is the youngest cellar master in The House's history and was trained by Louis XIII's first female cellar master, Pierrette Trichet.
Four generations of cellar masters are still alive today, keeping the secrets of a brandy beloved by everyone from Napoleon to Jay-Z.
Baptiste calls himself the guardian of the temple. He says he gets to make all of these wonderful blends with eaux de vie selected by the previous generations. His playground is 29 cellars with thousands and thousands of casks that he uses to create a consistent Louis XIII blend each year.
A Baccarat crystal bottle of Louis XIII easily runs $3,000. A cocktail made with Louis XIII at the Baccarat Hotel is $450 a glass.
But, Baptiste says, keep it simple when trying Louis XIII for the first time. He suggests appreciating it neat. There is no need to warm it up or swirl the cognac in the glass.
He also recommends having a fresh nose and palette and trying Louis XIII at the end of the morning when you're a little bit hungry and your senses are open. That's the perfect condition to experience all the wonderful perfumes in the eau de vie.
Louis XIII is also a drink you should take time to appreciate. Don't drink it right away. Baptiste suggests nosing it first. Approach the glass slowly and find the right distance to smell and enjoy all of its complexities. Figs and fruits will give way to floral notes, and finish with spice and freshness. Soak it all in, then take the tiniest of tastes.
Baptiste's advice is to start with just one drop on your lips to let Louis XIII invade your palette. It's a taste unlike anything else. When you're ready, take it all in., with a full sip.
Drinking Louis XIII is always a discovery whether it's your first taste or you've had it many times, Baptiste says. There are no rules. Just take your time, be humble, and pay tribute to the work of previous generations.
