The business of photography. Yeah, I don't really like it.
I'm on Instagram at
I know a lot of you guys are really interested in the business of photography. And, it makes sense. Especially since I'm a travel photographer. Of course, you all want to know the logistics behind how I make it happen. But, if I'm being quite honest with you, I don't really like the business side of travel photography. I didn't enter this career to make money, get rich, or to build my name. I entered this career as a means to explore the world to travel.
So, yeah, honestly, I don't like the business stuff. And, if I had my way I'd avoid the business of photography all together. If it were possible, I'd be totally happy taking a nice even amount of money each month to just keep traveling the world the way I do.
But, I do understand that I need to also have my focus on money to a certain extent. I need to build a future, I need to put money away for when I'm old or if at some point in my life I get sick. So, I do the business stuff. Sometimes begrudgingly, but I do it.

BARCELONA & CATALONIA PHOTO ADVENTURES
Website:
When people think of Barcelona, they tend to overlook what lies just north of this fabulous city. There are not many places where you could find wild coastal areas, mountain ranges, ski resorts, flatlands, pristine forests, deltas and volcanic regions, all in one province. Cataluña is one such exception. In addition to the stunning and varied natural beauty on display, we will explore Girona and Olot, the medieval villages of Banyoles and Santa Pau, enjoy their atmospheric light, local fiestas, excellent cuisine and proud people. Barcelona itself offers so much for the photographer and is an ideal starting point for this photographic journey. Starting in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter as well as moving on to the spectacular mountain range of Montserrat and the beautiful beaches of Sitges.

Joan Colom - Photography - Barcelona - El Raval during the 1960s
Joan Colom i Altemir (April 1921 – 3 September 2017) was a Spanish photographer renowned for his portraits of Barcelona's underworld and working class, especially in the infamous neighbourhood of Raval.
Colom was born in Barcelona. He was a self-taught photographer, and produced his best-known pictures while working during the week as an accountant. In 1957 he became a member of the Agrupació Fotogràfica de Catalunya (AFC), and co-founded in 1960 the artist's group El Mussol (The Owl). In 1962 he was presented in Paris along with fellow photographers Xavier Misserachs and Oriol Maspons as part of the New Avantgarde movement, strongly inspired by masters such as Brassaï, Francesc Català Roca, Henri Cartier-Bresson or Man Ray. He was awarded the National Photography Prize by Spain's Ministry of Culture in 2002, as well as the Golden Medal for Cultural Merit by the Barcelona city council, the National Visual Arts Prize by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Creu de Sant Jordi in 2006. In 2011 the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) was granted by the artist part of his photographic material.

First Class Train from Barcelona to Madrid and a Photographer's Meetup
Back in Madrid and hanging with some photographers.
I'm on Instagram at
Alex's Instagram:
Today's vlog I'm back in Madrid, Spain.
To get there, I caught the train from Barcelona. I found a good deal on a first class ticket which was awesome. There isn't a massive difference between first class and second class on the Spanish trains, but it is better. There's more space, there's plugs for the laptops, there's included food and drink, and best of all it's quiet. Most of the people that use the first class trains in Spain are business people, and they're working the same as me, which is awesome.
Once I got to Madrid, I did a meetup with some photographers. I'm always a little bit nervous about doing these meetups. I'd say that the first 3 or 4 I did, either only one person or no one would show up. And, it always made me nervous to see if someone would come. Now, I don't really worry about if some photographers will show up. It's fun. I pick a place that I'm going to shoot sunset, and then invite everyone to come. If they come, great. If not, I keep shooting sunset.
Luckily, 2 photographers showed up to the meetup. I'm really glad they did. Both of them are very talented photographers. Carlos Delgado, and Alex Vazquez. Actually, it was Alex's images from the Circulo de Bellas Artes that make me choose this location.
It's always so good to meetup with photographers around the world. If I'm in your neighbourhood, be sure to let me know and we'll see if we can do a similar meetup.

Epic Photography at Sagrada Familia in Barcelona
Takaing photos photos of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
I'm on Instagram at
I had a full day here in Barcelona, so I decided to spend it photographing Sagrada Familia. The iconic basilica in the city is an absolute wonder. The church was designed by Gaudi, but to this day still hasn't been completed. Most people say that they are planning to have the construction on Sagrada Familia completed in 2026, which would be the 100 year anniversary of the year the construction started.
Still, even under construction, it's hard not to take cool photos of Sagrada Familia. The basilica is an absolute wonder of the world, and a sight to be seen, for sure. I've been here a number of times, and it still blows me away each time I visit it.
In this vlog, I wake up before sunrise and head out to take photos of Sagrada Familia in the blue hour and at at dawn. The light wasn't great for me, but the photos of this location always turn out pretty cool regardless. I took photos of the basilica from 3 or 4 different spots surrounding the building through out blue light and at sunrise.
Then, after a bit of coffee to wake me up, I went inside to take photos of Sagrada Familia from the inside. I'd never been to the inside before, and it is absolutely beautiful. It was definitely a fun place to take pictures. Of course, you're not allowed a tripod inside Sagrada Familia, so I had to take my pictures handheld from inside. Both inside and outside, I shot a bit of a Sagr
Then, late in the afternoon I hiked up to Parque Guell. It was a pretty significant climb up to the park. But, the views from up there cover the whole city of Bacelona, and it's worth the hike. The main goal of the hike, of course, was to get some more pictures of Sagrada Familia, this time from above. And, although I kind of missed the good light, it was good to get out and do some walking around the city.
Today was all about photographing Sagrada Familia, and I think it was a pretty good success.
