Very dilapidated area, but I have included it as it is often confused with the Bagayu Kyaung in Amurapura which is a working school constructed entirely from teak and sits on stilts up to 18m in height. Many of the royal families were taught here.

Inwa or Ava / အင်းဝမြို့ (also spelled Innwa), literally means mouth of the Lake, is an ancient imperial capital of successive Burmese kingdoms from the 14th to 19th centuries (specifically five separate occasions, from 1365 to 1842). Throughout history, it was sacked and rebuilt numerous times. The capital city was finally abandoned after it was completely destroyed by a series of major earthquakes in March 1839. Though only a few traces of its former grandeur remain today, the former capital is a popular day-trip tourist destination from Mandalay.
The Lawka Tharahpu Pagoda is by Maha Aungmye Bonzan Monastery with the latter popularly known as Me Nu Ok Kyaung (lit. Me Nu's Brick Monastery) which was built in 1818 by Nanmadaw Me Nu, the famous Chief Queen of Bagyidaw, for the residence of her religious Preceptor, the Nyaunggan Sayadaw. The earthquake of 1838 damaged it. In 1873, it was restored by Sinbyumashin, Queen of Mindon and a daughter of Nanmadaw Me Nu. The building is markedly different from traditional Burmese monasteries, which are constructed with wood, not masonry.

Mahar Aungmyay Bonzan Monastery (1818) is main attraction of an ancient capital, Innwa, just 30 min drive from Mandalay. It is also known as Me Nu Oat Kyaung (Oat=Brick & Kyaung=Monastery) because of its original donor Queen Nanmadaw Me Nu who was Chief Queen of King Bagyidaw of Konebaung Dynasty.
Bargayar Monastery is another attracted spot for its big teak columns and it was once a monastic education college for Royal bloods .
