Flying over Red wings Barn Bluff. After a long dangerous hike down a closed trail we arrived at our destination on top of the bluff. Beautiful (minus the cloudiness) January day in MN for hiking and just enjoying the outdoors. Hope you enjoy! 1/24/15

Barn Bluff is one of the best-known natural features along the upper Mississippi River. It is significant for its geology and its association with prehistoric and native peoples. It is also significant for its association with the exploration of the Upper Mississippi in the early nineteenth century, and for its mid-nineteenth century through present day association with travel, industry, tourism, and recreation. A many-layered interpretation of the feature is evident in local legend, as well as in published historical and scientific accounts, works of art, and photography.

In commeration of this event, Henry David Thoreau (the action figure) participated in A Walk with Thoreau, sponsored by the Anderson Center, Friends of the Bluffs, Goodhue County History Center, Master Gardeners, Minnesota Native Plant Society, Red Wing Arts Association, Red Wing Environmental Learning Center, Red Wing Horticulture Society, and Red Wing in Bloom.
