Marijuana Dispensary Opens on Fifth Avenue in New York City
MedMen, a company that operates a chain of marijuana dispensaries, has opened a store on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue. The store officially opened on April 20 — the holiday for marijuana consumers. Daniel Yi, a senior vice president at MedMen tells Business Insider, We're really excited about it. We want the store to show our vision of the future for cannabis. According to Marijuana Business Daily, there are only around 33,000 registered medical marijuana patients in New York, out of a population of almost 20 million. The state currently only allows the sale of medical marijuana to license-holders.

Driving Downtown Streets - Madison Avenue - New York City New York USA - Episode 99.
Starting Point: Madison Avenue .
Madison Avenue is an avenue in Manhattan in New York City, United States. Since the 1920s, the street's name has been metonymous with the American advertising industry. Therefore, the term Madison Avenue refers specifically to the agencies, and methodology of advertising. Madison Avenue techniques refers, according to William Safire, to the gimmicky, slick use of the communications media to play on emotions.
It passes through Midtown, the Upper East Side (including Carnegie Hill), East Harlem, and Harlem. It is named after and arises from Madison Square, which is itself named after James Madison, the fourth President of the United States.
Role in Advertising Industry
The term Madison Avenue is often used metonymically for advertising, and Madison Avenue became identified with the American advertising industry after the explosive growth in this area in the 1920s.
According to The Emergence of Advertising in America, by the year 1861, there were twenty advertising agencies in New York City; and in 1911, the New York City Association of Advertising Agencies was founded, predating the establishment of the American Association of Advertising Agencies by several years.
Among various depictions in popular culture, the portion of the advertising industry which centers on Madison Avenue serves as a backdrop for the AMC television drama Mad Men, which focuses on industry activities during the 1960s.
In recent decades, many agencies have left Madison Avenue, with some moving further downtown and others moving west. The continued presence of large agencies in the city makes New York the third largest job market per capita in the U.S., in 2016 according to a study by marketing recruitment firm MarketPro. Today, only a few agencies are still located in the old business cluster on Madison Avenue, including StrawberryFrog, TBWA Worldwide and Doyle Dane Bernbach. However, the term is still used to describe the agency business as a whole and large, New York–based agencies in particular.
Economy
Retail brands with locations on Madison Avenue include: Alexander McQueen, Hermès, Tom Ford, Céline, Proenza Schouler, Lanvin, Valentino, Stuart Weitzman, Damiani, Emporio Armani, Prada, Chloé, Roberto Cavalli, Davidoff, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Calvin Klein, Cartier, Christian Louboutin, La Perla, Jimmy Choo, Jacadi, Mulberry, Victoria's Secret, Barneys New York, Coach, Emanuel Ungaro, Giorgio Armani, Oliver Peoples, Vera Wang, Anne Fontaine, Baccarat, Carolina Herrera, Ralph Lauren and others.
Manhattan
Manhattan is the most densely populated borough of New York City, its economic and administrative center, and its historical birthplace.
Many districts and landmarks in Manhattan are well known, as New York City received a record 61 million tourists in 2016, and Manhattan hosts three of the world's 10 most-visited tourist attractions in 2013: Times Square, Central Park, and Grand Central Terminal. The borough hosts many prominent bridges, such as the Brooklyn Bridge; skyscrapers such as the Empire State Building; and parks, such as Central Park. Chinatown incorporates the highest concentration of Chinese people in the Western Hemisphere, and the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, part of the Stonewall National Monument, is considered the birthplace of the modern gay rights movement. The City of New York was founded at the southern tip of Manhattan, and the borough houses New York City Hall, the seat of the city's government. Numerous colleges and universities are located in Manhattan,[35]including Columbia University, New York University, Weill Cornell Medical College, and Rockefeller University, which have been ranked among the top 40 in the world.

Top 10 Hotels in New York City
10. Baccarat Hotel & Residences—New York
9. The Lowell
The location of this Madison Avenue hotel, one block away from Central Park and around the corner from Fifth Avenue’s flagships (Barney’s, Bendel’s, Bloomie’s), is hard to beat. An Art Deco exterior gives way to spacious, European-inspired rooms decorated with one-of-a-kind antiques and gold curtains, plus authentic wood-burning fireplaces.
8. WestHouse Hotel New York
Far north enough in Midtown to escape the Times Square bustle, this luxury boutique hotel opened in 2013, showcasing Art Deco–style interiors in cool neutral tones that were inspired by the performers' dressing rooms in nearby Carnegie Hall. A customized scent wafts through the public spaces, and guests can enjoy breakfast and afternoon libations with stellar views of the city on the 23rd floor, at rooftop lounge the Terrace.
7. Langham Place, New York, Fifth Avenue
Three blocks north of the Empire State Building on Fifth Avenue, this hotel has spacious rooms starting at a generous-for–New York 400-square-feet that are filled with natural light and supple surfaces. All units are outfitted with walnut furnishings, wondrously comfortable Duxiana beds, and deep soaking tubs, while the apartment suites each have a full stainless-steel kitchen. The hotel is also home to several original paintings by New York City artist Alex Katz—the lobby is a great place to start learning about his work.
6. Roxy Hotel
At the crossroads of SoHo and Tribeca, this 201-room newcomer is the highest debut of this year’s Reader’s Choice Awards. The property is a reinvention of the iconic Tribeca Grand Hotel; and as its new incarnation, The Roxy channels an artsy vibe with the offerings to match, like a cellar jazz club, a screening room, and an organic coffee shop attracting film and fashion types. Guest rooms have a stylish yet residential feel and come with a few quirky amenities (such as a pet goldfish for your stay).
5. Park Hyatt New York
Opened in summer 2014 in the new One57 skyscraper tower on Billionaires' Row of West 57th Street, this five-star Midtown modern marvel is this year’s second biggest gainer on the Reader’s Choice Awards list, up from its debut at #21 last year. Listen to classical music underwater in the 25th-floor swimming pool, get a spa treatment on a top-floor terrace, and then retire to textile-rich rooms outfitted in rich browns and creams and featuring custom furniture pieces (think: leather trunks that double as minibars).
4. Library Hotel
As its name suggests, this hotel is a bibliophile's haven; It is housed in an elegant, ten-story circa 1900 landmark building on the corner of Madison Avenue and 41st Street, just around the corner from the New York Public Library, and each floor is themed after one of ten categories of the Dewey Decimal System. Comfy armchairs, an oasis of a rooftop garden, and a roaring fireplace in winter together create a highly intimate experience.
3. Crosby Street Hotel
On the eastern edge of Soho, this Kit Kemp–designed 11-story brownstone has floor-to-ceiling windows in rooms that thoroughly embrace the English interior decorator’s colorful and eclectic flair. Expect cheerful fabrics, sophisticated wallpaper patterns, tall headboards, sleek modern furniture, and bold, color-blocked paint at this boutique hotel, which is also environmentally certified as a LEED Gold property.
2. The Peninsula New York
Embracing its Beaux-Arts glamour, this hotel just off of tony Fifth Avenue doesn't hold back on luxury trimmings, all in muted shades of camel and beige. Marvel at the hotel’s façade—it features limestone carvings, a copper cornice, and Doric columns—and gawk at the Manhattan skyline, sipping “Ning Sling” cocktails at the Salon de Ning rooftop bar, which is open year-round. And the luxury doesn’t only extend to human guests: The pet-friendly Peninsula will pamper your dog too.
1. The Surrey
For the second year in a row, Traveler readers bestowed top marks on this understated, 189-room, Upper East Side stunner. Peering over a particularly posh stretch of Madison Avenue (just one block west of Central Park), New York City’s sole Relais & Châteaux-branded property is an excellent find in a metropolis notorious for cramped quarters. The lobby’s Art Deco-inspired black-and-gray palette is echoed in generously sized guest rooms with Dux by Duxiana beds and oversized bathrooms. Order 24-hour room service from Café Boulud and sip cocktails on the butler-attended rooftop.
NYC CELEBRATES 4/20 BY OPENING THE 'BARNEYS OF WEED'
We saw this one one coming up 5th avenue! The Barneys of weed is hitting Manhattan on 4/20.
The Los Angeles cannabis brand MedMen is hitting NYC and opening a store on Fifth Ave, near Bryant Park. The medical marijuana dispensary is set to be 10,000 square foot and will be only the third legally permitted Manhattan dispensary. Customers must be New York state residents and qualifying medical patients.
In 2014, the Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, legalized limited use of medical marijuana where only 20 hospitals in New York are allowed to prescribe it. The medical use is reserved for serious conditions such as cancer or glaucoma.
If you had to name a weed dispensary, what would you name it?

USA: New Yorkers protest against Barneys 'racial profiling'
Around a dozen protesters picketed outside of Barneys department store in Manhattan on Wednesday to express outrage over claims of racial profiling by the upmarket store's security staff.
Recently, two African-American shoppers have come forward saying that they were stopped by the store's security staff after making luxury purchases. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) got involved on each occasion.
The picket came as the New York Attorney General is set to look into allegations against not only Barneys, but also Macy's department store.
The picket was called by Reverend Clinton Miller of Brooklyn, who personally spoke of his own fondness for the store.
