Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area - Gilmer TX- ATV Trail Ride Day 1 Part 1
This was our first trip to Barnwell Mountain to ride our ATV's. This is a big place with a lot of riding, It is a little confusing at first, so get the map when you check in. We did not and spent a little time wandering instead of trail riding. We finally got the hang of the trail system and this is the start of our ride. Video was shot on 11 year olds GoPro. He is riding a Honda TRX 250 and we are on a Yamaha Wolverine 350 and a Yamaha Raptor 700.

ATV Riding Scrambler 1000 at Barnwell Mountain. STEEP Ass Hill Descent!
Polaris Scrambler ATV riding at Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area in Gilmer, Tx. Going down a steep hill trail section that was so bad in areas I had to turn off the Brute Force and Raptor to walk them down. Then rode down the Scrambler. It was even steeper than it looks in the video, with trenches and washouts also. My son managed to drop his helmet in front of me, then forgot his key at the top!
The Scrambler 1000 did fine on the descent due to the engine braking and just overall better brakes and heft in general. The Brute Force didn't have engine braking, and I didn't take the best line with it.
FIRST TIME hitting the TRAILS at BARNWELL ORV w/ 1990 RRC
TEXAS ROVERS met up in Gilmer, TX at the Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area for a weekend of wheeling and camping.
Didn't get much footage of the other trucks as I spent most of the weekend repairing some bent trailing arms while the others were wheeling around. After the repairs I got to go around and wheel up until I broke my CV joint and had to call it a day.

TPWD - OHV Program Video
Bobby Beamer - Spring, TX - Texas Offroad Network -- This video is intended for distribution to city and county land managers, county judges, and other officials interested in the positive economic impact, improved law enforcement issues and social acceptance of developing OHV Parks - either as a city or county project, or as a co-op with local non-profit trail rider orgs.
If you've ever watched the Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept television program that airs on Saturday afternoons, you've seen short segments on all kinds of outdoor recreation topics.
This video is available on the TPWD website in the Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Program section under the Destinations tab - or download it from our Texas Offroad Network web server. This 12 minute video was produced for the TPWD OHV Program in 2007 by Steve Thompson, TPWD OHV Program Manager.
** **
The Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Program is a very new thing for Texas - something many of us struggled for decades to get (since the 1970's) - and over the next few years, we should see more Offroad Recreation Areas developed, either as non-profit parks or more likely, as local community and trail organization economic development and recreation co-ops.
The location for this video was in and around Gilmer, Texas - up in NE Texas - and primarily was shot at the Barnwell Mountain Recreational Area (BMRA) developed by the Texas Motorized Trails Coalition. I am TMTC Charter Member #5 and was on the Board for several years, where we wrote U.S. record breaking RTF grants year after year. It has been an amazing decade!
Thanks to the awesome political support we get from our colleagues and partners inside TPWD, we've made historic progress - and thanks to the National OHV Conservation Council (NOHVCC) for taking a leadership role in the beginning of this great journey for political change. For many activists like myself, we work alone on small projects for years, until one day we find like minded partners to create coalitions that can open the doors of opportunity and change.
I want to thank TPWD for allowing me the opportunity to participate in this project...and for allowing me to serve in various capacities over the years, working with TPWD and the US Forest Service to encourage positive change for moto/trail enthusiasts in Texas.

Barnwell Mountain Recreation Area: Solihull Off-Road Trail
For the full off-road trail guide please visit:
Solihull is an often traveled 'easy' trail due to the optional obstacle and the opportunity to play in the playground area at the opening of the northern trailhead. Whether you're looking to shorten your trip to/from the extreme reaches of the park road, or merely wish to add a dash of excitement to your journey, Solihull can accommodate.

Eisenhower State Park Texas OHV ATV trail
Check out my trail update video here:
Eisenhower State Park Trail ride on the ATV Texas OHV program.
The Texas OHV decal costs $16 and is good for 1 year (expires in August) and gives access to several OHV areas. Eisenhower state park allows ATVs less than 48 in width as well as minibikes.
If you are in the DFW area and looking for a small place to ride around this park would be great.
