Reno is a city in the U.S. state of Nevada, located in the western part of the state, approximately 22 miles from Lake Tahoe. Known as The Biggest Little City in the World, Reno is famous for its hotels and casinos. It is the county seat of Washoe County, in the northwestern part of the state. The city sits in a high desert at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and its downtown area (along with Sparks) occupies a valley informally known as the Truckee Meadows. It is named after slain Union Major General Jesse L. Reno.
Reno is the third-most populous city in Nevada after Las Vegas and Henderson and the most populous city in the state outside the Las Vegas Valley. Before the late 1950s, Reno was the gambling capital of the United States, but Las Vegas' rapid growth, American Airlines' 2000 buyout of Reno Air, and the growth of Native American gaming in California have reduced its business. Older casinos were torn down (Mapes Hotel, Fitzgerald's Nevada Club, Primadonna, Horseshoe Club, Harold's Club, Palace Club), or smaller casinos like the Comstock, Sundowner, Golden Phoenix, Kings Inn, Money Tree, Virginian, and Riverboat were either closed or were converted into condos.
Because of its location, Reno has traditionally drawn the majority of its California tourists and gamblers from the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento, while Las Vegas has historically served more tourists from Southern California and the Phoenix area.
Several local large hotel casinos have shown significant growth and have moved gaming further away from the downtown core. These larger hotel casinos are the Atlantis, the Peppermill and the Grand Sierra Resort. The Peppermill was chosen as the most outstanding Reno gaming/hotel property by Casino Player and Nevada magazines. In 2005, the Peppermill Reno began a $300 million Tuscan-themed expansion.

Abbreviated Transcript:
This is the real estate
market report for Old South Suburban Reno and Southwest Reno.
Today we're going to take a look at a couple of new areas in our series of
real estate market reports. We're going to look at Old South Suburban Reno and
Southwest Reno. Jen Rosser is going to show us those property borders. We're
gonna take a look at the December 2018 numbers. And of course our featured
property of the month. So let's dive right in.
since this is our first look at area 163 of Southwest Reno and area 164 of Old
South suburban Reno we wanted to show you where exactly these borders are. So
Jen, what are these borders and what's unique about these borders in
relation to the City of Reno. Sure Phillip. Well the northern border of
Southwest Reno is Plumb Lane and it extends all the way down to Del Monte
Lane and it's on the west side of 395. This area is within the city limits of
the City of Reno. And then old south suburban starts at Del Monte Lane and
goes down to Zolezzi Lane also on the west side of the freeway but this is in
the unincorporated the county area and not within the city limits. And that
means this area is going to have some very different zoning and building and
animal restrictions compared to City of Reno. And that's exactly right. aAlot of
the properties in Old South Suburban are minimum 2.5 acres and they allow
horses. Here we are inside market insights from the Reno Sparks
Association of Realtors and we have combined the two areas 163 and 164. You
can see that there. Jen take it away. 25 properties sold in December that was
down 7% from the month before and down 30% from the prior year
In the grand scheme though we're only talking about a dozen properties or less.
Median price continues to go up. It's up 6% over November 2018 and 14% over
December 2017. The months supply of inventory at 3.6 indicates we're still
in a seller's market with 91 units in
inventory with interest rates falling like they are right now this is the time to
buy. This is seerenohomesforsale.com our Nevada Real Estate Group website and
our featured property of the day is 600 Mile Circle in Reno. Jen what can you
tell us about this fantastic property. Well this is pretty characteristic of a
lot of the homes in this neighborhood because it was built in 1979. But it's
been fully remodeled like a lot of the homes that were built between 1940 and
1960 have been taken down to the studs in some cases and redone into some
really nice modern houses on large properties. For example this one's 2.86
acres and then the inside is anything but a ranch house it's got very high
ceilings, very modern feel and as we said it's
been completely remodeled. It's five bedrooms and four baths. Jen you've lived
in this area for over ten years now what is so great about this pocket of Reno?
It's a place where you want to go and ride your bike or drive your car through
and just get a feel of being in a very natural and agricultural area. Jen tell
us about Bartley Ranch which is also in your area. Bartley Ranch is a beautiful
historic ranch. It's got a interpretive center where you can go see some of the
original buildings that were built in Reno, an old schoolhouse, it's got some of
the old agricultural equipment that was used for farming. It has for outdoor
riding arenas plenty of parking you can pull your trailer up and easily access
these amazing community amenities. It's also got the Robert Hawkins amphitheater
and starting in spring they'll have concerts, music festivals, ballet and
dance festivals. And one of my favorite events at Bartley Ranch Park is the Reno
Celtic Festival. If you love anything Irish or Scottish they've got the
caber tossing and the throw this heavy thing as far as you can and the
food and the Scotch. That's my favorite weekend at Bartley Ranch.
