Gloria {+} Bret, Historic Mesilla Plaza, New Mexico by Luminance Wedding Films
How do you create a wedding film without actually shooting the wedding? Very carefully. Despite the last minute change in plans, after finding out the church did not allow videotaping of the wedding ceremony but just audio recording, Bret and Gloria were determined to not let that ruin their day. They put complete trust in us that we would make it all work in the final edit. And I do believe we pulled it off! Highlighting the beautiful 10-piece choir in this film, a few words from their priest and using their special vows, this wedding was rich in catholic traditions. Bret and Gloria are two of the sweetest people you will ever meet. I wanted this film to showcase their fondness for each other through the music during the vows and the intimate silhouette shots of them together. We had an amazing time with this couple, their friends and their family. One of our first trips to Mesilla but not our last! Such a charming town for a charming couple! We wish you two all the best!

Mesilla NM The Plaza of Mesilla
Riding motorcycles throughout America, Highway and Sash have found The Plaza of Mesilla, NM, just outside of Las Cruces. Rich with history and great spots to visit, the Road Pickle team shares some insight into the area.
Riders Highway and Sash of Road Pickle Motorcycle Bohemia travel America over the summer of 2013 to see what they've been missing and to find answers on the road to the questions they ask of themselves. Completely homeless, this blogging couple set outs to live with only the bare essentials and earn a living traveling, riding, eating and drinking their way through the lower 48.
Owners of Too Much Tina Media, Highway and Sash, Steve Johnson and Tina Walker respectively, are not only internet publishers, but coach others to earn a living doing the same thing. Their Road Pickle Motorcycle Bohemia, RoadPickle.com, is an example of the freedom and success one can find as an internet publisher. Working on the road for this couple means blogging, selling advertising and maintaining their websites. All done via telephone and a good internet connection, they spend a good deal of time on the road looking for outlets, Wi-Fi, soft beds and hot showers. Delicious craft beer and exceptional local cuisine also top the Must-Have list at each destination.
Highway and Sash spend up to a week in larger cities with good attractions to get absorb the local culture, enjoy the people and soak up the unique atmosphere each location offers. Some days are spent simply riding their motorcycles Blackbird, Highway's Honda ST and Katie Scarlet, Sash's Kawasaki Ninja 500 on the backroads and open spaces, as far away from Interstates as possible.
Follow the adventures and scenery, meet the people and soak up the sounds of this enlightening bohemia on their blog RoadPickle.com. Highway also writes his deep personal and intriguing motorcycling thoughts on his blog MotorcyclePhilosophy.com. For a sassy, often naughty glance into the mind of the female motorcyclist, Sash writes her Adult Content blog at SashMouth.com. Get inside the minds and watch the changes that occur to this risk-taking couple as they change their lives with every mile of asphalt they travel.

2019.12.13 Las Cruces
Day 51 - 475 miles. Junction, TX to Las Cruces, NM
Today was to be a long drive, and we wanted to get through El Paso before the Friday afternoon traffic got to heavy. We hit the road at daybreak, and the drive wasn’t too bad, except it was pretty windy until we got near El Paso. We did hit some traffic in El Paso, but the delay wasn’t too long.
We stayed one night at the Hacienda RV Resort on the outbound leg of the fall trip two years ago. We stayed two nights this time so we would have a day of rest before pushing through to home. I decided to play golf on Saturday, and I really enjoyed the New Mexico State University golf course. After golf, we went walked around the Mesilla Plaza in the historic town of Mesilla.
The plaza and several of its surrounding buildings are a National Historic Landmark District, significant for its role in the transfers of power that brought first the original New Mexico Territory and later the Gadsden Purchase into US control. The most notable building facing the plaza is the Basilica of San Albino, which has been on the plaza since its establishment in 1851.
This was our second time staying at this park. Access from I-10 is very easy, registration is easy, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Our gravel site # 123 was level and not too tight. Roads are wide and easily navigable. Nightly charge of $47.88 was reasonable. Utilities were fine, and we had an unobstructed view of the Dish satellites. The enclosed dog park is long, narrow, and sunken, which makes it a bit awkward. There are many discount coupons in the office for local restaurants. We would definitely stay there again.
El Patio, Mesilla New Mexico - Bucket List Bars
Find out about our new book at
The building housing El Patio dates from the late 1800's, and was used by the current owner's great-grandfather as his law office (where he defended Billy the Kid at the end of the block). El Patio is a total dive bar, but is also rich in history, with exposed 150 year old adobe, and mementos from its extensive past adorning the walls. El Patio was also named one of the best bars in the US by Men's Journal.

Old Swedes Church joins First State National Park
Built in the late 1600's, the Wilmington church is now officially part of Delaware's long awaited National Park.
Swedish colonists started building the church in 1698 and it was completed a year later. It is the oldest church in the United States that still stands as originally built and is still in use as a house of worship.
When visitors tour these grounds they are linked with that past, said Rev. Patricia Downing, Rector of Trinity Parish which holds services at the church. Old Swedes Church is not a monument to the past only. It is a vibrant living place.

In the Footsteps of the Hermit - Larry Torres
The Hermit of La Cueva was a 19th-century mystic and healer who spent his final days in a cave at the base of the Organ Mountains, near what is now called Dripping Springs. Born in Italy as Giovanni María Agostini-Justiniani, he studied for the priesthood but stopped short of taking his vows. After leaving Europe, he spent much of his life wandering South and North America dispensing religious visions and herbal healing.
In Las Vegas, NM, where he lived for some time, local Penitente brothers calling themselves La Sociedad del Ermitaño still revere him by making rosaries out of native plants at Easter.
His gravestone in Mesilla reads, John Mary Justiniani, Hermit of the Old and New World. He died the 17th of April, 1869, at 69 years and 49 years a hermit.
Larry Torres, associate professor of foreign languages at UNM Taos, plays the role of the Hermit in these imagined scenes from the Hermits wanderings in New Mexico.

New Mexico and Arizona: Mesilla, Bisbee, Tombstone, Casa Grande
In this video I continue rving from El Paso, Texas to Quartzsite, Arizona. I pass by historic Mesilla, near Las Cruces, New Mexico. Entering Arizona, I drive through Bisbee, one of America's quirkiest towns and super touristy, yet lots of fun Tombstone. Then I continue through Tucson, I stop briefly by the abandoned domes of Casa Grande, through Phoenix and eventually I reach Quatzsite, one week too late for the RTR.
