This video shows how to make a blown glass bauble. Our glass baubles are made in our glass-blowing studio in Walcot Street Bath which is 10 minutes from the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey.
We sign our baubles with Bath and the year they our made we have a lot of collectors who collect them each year. As they baubles are hand blown it makes them very strong and they are deemed lucky.
The Tradition of the Bauble
Apprentices used to secretly practise blowing baubles when the Master Glass Blower had gone home. Before he returned, the baubles had to be removed from the kiln and hidden away. This meant the baubles were often thrown around the workshop - many breaking in haste of hiding them from the Gaffer (big boss). The ones that didn't smash were deemed lucky and proved lucky when given to friends and family.`So the tradition is you hang them in your front window to bring you luck and good fortune.
You can come and blow bauble all year round or simply put your breath in one. Look at our activities page on our website.

Next, the assistant glass blower brings what we call in the trade a punti iron (which is Latin for a bridge) and knocks the gather off the original iron onto the punti iron. This is so they can work the other end which is the neck of the vase. It is then shaped and knocked off
the punti into a box and then put in the lehr (kiln) overnight to anneal.

Gastronomically Good Gaffs: Salathai Restaurant, Bath
Today's Gastronomically Good Gaff is the Salathai Restaurant in Bath. I haven't eaten here before, but there is another one opposite in where I have, on several occasions.
The lunch menu is reasonably priced for a city with tourists, and £6.50 for one course with rice is possibly the cheapest ever. The som tam was not on the lunch menu but even so was still reasonably priced at £6.50. My only comment was that it was very sweet.
This restaurant ticks all my boxes and the 9.5 score is the highest I have awarded up to date.

Accommodation video | Hatfield House, Bath, Somerset | TUCKEDAWAY
Hatfield House accommodation video
Hatfield house is on a slope and accommodation is arranged over two floors with bedrooms and garden below and living accommodation above with entrances at both levels.
The main entrance takes you straight into a spacious and cheerful country kitchen/ diner with original wide floorboards, fitted aqua green units and pretty mosaic tiles. In Pride of place is a vast range style cooker with a 6 ring hob and 2 ovens. A large picture window has lively views of the Kennet and Avon Canal, Camden Crescent on the Northern slopes and, Bathwick Hill to the South. There is plenty of cooking and kitchen equipment, alongside a nespresso coffee maker (supplied with coffee pods) and a digital radio, for relaxed mornings lingering over the papers. The kitchen has a microwave, dishwasher, large fridge and separate freezer, and a generous selection of seasonings along with some useful cookbooks. A large dining table seats up to 8 with a jolly selection of painted chairs.
The living room has glorious views of Bath city, featuring the Abbey, St Michael’s Church, The Empire buildings and Pulteney Bridge. This cosy room has an original cast iron fireplace stacked with logs to use on chilly evenings, a TV and DVD along with a good selection of books and films on alcove bookcases either side of the fire place. The furnishings are in fresh soft green linens, with a large sofa for 2, an armchair, a wide loveseat and a footstool.
At this level is a large family bathroom tiled in aqua green with a cast iron roll-top bath, a small corner shower, a hand basin and WC. Large original sash windows with working shutters overlook the garden.
Downstairs is light and spacious with a separate garden entrance. The main bedroom elegantly furnished in silver and green, has a 5’ king bed with two decorative chests of drawers on either side. Alcoves beside the window have shelves with a selection of novels, a hanging rail and storage shelf. An etched glass door leads to a compact, fully tiled wet room with a hand basin and WC at one end and a comfortable showering area at the other with a tiled shelf space for toiletries.
A large comfortable twin room in pale grey and orange with a big fluffy rug and armchair has two single 3’ beds which can zip together to become a 6’ super king bed, a chest of drawers, a writing bureau and an alcove with built in wardrobe providing plenty of hanging space. Two windows here have views into the garden and towards Widcome as well as views of the city through the trees.
A pretty single room in soft grey and turquoise has a single 3’ bed with cast iron bed, a chest of drawers, digital radio, hanging rail and small bench with some storage under. A large window has bright views into the garden.
A utility cupboard at this level has a washing machine with plenty of shelf space for laundry and towels.
Outside is a large level family garden. Sunny and protected, it is a natural sun-trap, with a good sized lawn for games, a couple of sun loungers, a BBQ and an outdoor table and seating for 8 overlooking the canal.
There is a designated parking space for 1 car a few minutes’ walk from the property. You can pull up out front the property to unload and load but please be aware the lane up to the property is very narrow and it is difficult to turn around at the end if there are cars parked at the end of the lane.
The local facilities in Widcombe Parade are very good and include a newsagent, chemist, coffee shop, hairdressers, florists, and several pubs, restaurants and Indian, Chinese and American takeaways. There is a convenience store only a minutes’ walk from the property at the start of Widcombe Parade. The footpath bridge after Widcombe parade takes you to the train station and the start of Bath high street where you will find numerous shops, restaurants, bars and Marks and Spencers for your food shop. The City has many historic sites and museums and galleries. Nearby National Trust owned Prior Park Gardens has a lovely walk to a palladium bridge, or explore rural footpaths across the hills above Widcombe for flower filled meadows, hidden churches, manor houses and stunning views of Bath - part of the Bath Skyline walk. Bath Narrowboats rent barges and bikes to explore the city or the Kennet and Avon canal and towpath. After all the activity, pamper yourselves in the piping hot pools of the Thermae Spa, or enjoy a night at The Theatre Royal or Komedia Comedy Club.

Electric Showers: What is an electric shower? video from Triton Showers
Triton Showers -
A short video explaining how an electric shower works, what can affect the amount of water flowing from the showerhead and the benefits of a thermostatic electric shower.
While each electric shower model has its own individual features, they all heat water the same way.
Having a brief understanding of how an electric shower works, and some of the factors that can affect their performance will help you choose the right electric shower for you.
Here's a quick rundown.
Cold water is drawn into the unit and heated by one or more powerful electric elements as it passes through the unit.
Increasing the temperature you want from your shower will decrease the flow of water from the showerhead.
This is because the water needs to stay in the unit longer for the elements to heat it to your increased temperature requirement.
On the other hand, decreasing the temperature you want will increase the flow of water from the showerhead.
Of course, in this case the water is heated to the required temperature quicker and therefore flows through the unit faster.
And that's not the only thing that can influence the flow of water from your showerhead.
Things like the electricity supply voltage, the kilowatt rating of the shower and the incoming temperature of your cold water all affect the flow of the water.
So, for example, expect the flow rate to change with the seasons. During winter, the cold mains water supply will make it harder for the shower elements to warm up the water to the required temperature. As a result, water flow will be a little lower.
During the summer months, when the cold water entering the shower is warmer, the flow rate will be higher.
For more information on kW ratings, take a look at our What is a kW rating? video.
OK, finally I'm sure at some point you have experienced a small spike in the water temperature while showering.
This is because the electric shower is a temperature stabilised shower and is only able to maintain the water temperature to within 5oC when there is a pressure change in the incoming water supply.
So, for example, if someone turns a cold water tap on elsewhere in the house, the cold water pressure to the shower will drop, reducing the flow of water and resulting in an increase in the water temperature.
If your cold water supply has a large demand from washers, kids and more -- then maybe you should consider a thermostatic electric shower.
These showers can maintain the water temperature to within 1 to 2oC. They can do that, not only when your water pressure changes, but also when the incoming temperature of your cold water or electric supply voltage changes.
For more information on electric showers why not take a look at our other videos on this site, such as the plumbing and electrical requirements of installation.
