Castle For Sale in Michigan, USA
STEP INTO THE CASTLE AND step back in time to a home modeled after a fifth-century castle built near Nuremberg, Germany. The Castle was crafted during the 1920s in Jackson, Michigan, by the eccentric violinist Max Helmer. Helmer was the local Liberace of his day, a wealthy musician who inherited a large estate from his father, a prominent Jackson banker, Fred Helmer. Helmer fell in love with medieval structures while touring Europe in the 1920s as a concert violinist. The Castle was designed for seclusion, but enjoys beautiful views on one of the most elevated points in the area.
Builder C.J. Jorgensen crafted the tower using fieldstone from the surrounding region. More than 500 tons of rock and 300 barrels of cement were used to build the first five floors. Jorgensen used horses, nine helpers and a crane. The tower walls are 3-feet-wide at the base, and are tapered to the top. Beneath the structure is a customary castle feature, a dungeon, entered through a trap door on the first floor. The Castle has been renovated to seamlessly conjoin the old and the new, the pinnacle of which is the 3-story addition completed in 1942. This project added a great room, master suite, family room, and modernized kitchen to the property; thus, bringing the home in line with contemporary living while maintaining its historical charm.
A History of Family, Friends, Adventure and Escape: When the, then newlywed, current owners decided to move from the Detroit area to a more peaceful, slowpaced location to raise a young family - their wildest dreams couldn’t have prepared them for what they discovered.
The Castle they found hidden on the highest point of Jackson County in Lower Michigan (National
Geological Survey Market on-site) proved to transform both the place and their family in an almost magical
way. The unique setting in which to raise a family and the inherent responsibility to continue the fascinating
history of the property, proved to be a bonding experience and the quest of a lifetime for the current owners.
Early years at the Castle for this family were spent together pruning, clearing and landscaping the grounds for
year-round fun outdoors. Undertaking countless renovations and restorations, which transformed the property
from the original medieval vision of the eccentric Max Helmer into what is now a truly unique modern
home.

Battle Creek police look into 3-year-old's death
by Anne Schieber
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) - Battle Creek police are treating a 3-year-old's death as a homicide. Investigators are waiting for the results from an autopsy.
Police are not saying much about the death of 3-year-old Baylee Stenman. They are labeling the case a homicide because it is routine when a cause of death is not known initially.
24 Hour News 8 spoke with Mike Jeannette, a man who says he is the child's father. Jeannette says he had been fighting to have involvement in his daughter's life since she was born. Today, he regrets not having much success.
The only connection Mike Jeanette says he had with his biological daughter are pictures her mother sent two years ago. He was still trying to get regular visitation with the 3-year-old when he learned last week she was in a coma.
My sister came over and told me when I got out of work. She had found out through the grapevine, Jeannette said.

Michigan dairy farms are in trouble
By Tim Jagielo
Mundy Twp. — It takes approximately three hours to milk 180 cows. Wearing rubber boots, Corner Oak Farm co-owner Julie Juengel walks up and down the milking parlor floor, making sure the milking machines are attached to the cows. She shuts off the ones that are done for the night.
Juengel’s daughter, Amy, and son, Jason, 17, are helping to clean and treat the udders. When finished, they guide the cattle away from the parlor. Most know where they’re supposed to go, but are wary of anything new in their path — like a journalist with cameras.
While everything appears to be fine at the farm and the grocery aisle, there is deep trouble for Michigan’s dairy farmers.
For nearly four years, dairy farmers have been receiving approximately half the price for their milk, and dealing with escalating expenses. Worldwide, there is a surplus of milk, which is good for everyone but the milk producers.
This surplus is pushing some producers out of the business and some have even considered suicide, according to milkbusiness.com.
At Corner Oak Farm, the husband/wife team of Peter and Julie Juengel are hanging on by a thread, trying to keep the business going until it’s profitable again.
“It’s rough,” Julie said. “We’re managing, we’re making cuts.” They’ve laid off employees, so everyone stepped in to do more.

Michigan Ag Commission delays vote on GAAMPS
The Michigan Agricultural Commission today unanimously decided to delay a final vote on the controversial GAAMPS (Generally Accepted Agricultural and Management Practices) section that defines who qualifies under the protection of these regulations and Right To Farm. The controversy stems from concerns raised by the Michigan Small Farm Council and others that this year's proposed changes would deny small and urban farmers Right To Farm protection. Producers ranging from small farm-market enterprises to those who raise chickens in the city and sell eggs to neighbors could be denied those all-important protections, leaving them subject to a patchwork of often-conflicting or confusing local zoning ordinances. Wendy Banka, Randy Buchler, Debbi Heiser and Belinda Fitzpatrick explain why the ruling matter and what they hope will happen at the next vote. Video by Bonnie Bucqueroux
Crazy Winds in Michigan and a sticker from a friend.
Crazy weather here in South West Michigan today! Power outages and closing across the state. My dialysis clinic lost power and sent patients home but luckily by the time I got there power had been restore. It took quite a while to get me up and running though. They were able to call a few patients in to run them also thankfully. I feel very fortunate. Thank you Survival Preacher (Casey) for the sticker. I love it!

A family farm in rural Michigan may be shut down by a Government Entity who has passed a law stating that the breed of hogs they are raising are a threat to neighboring croplands. In truth, the Big Pork Industry has been planning this campaign to take down all family farms with hopes to eventually siege complete control of the American Food Supply. This short-film was created with hopes to inspire the public to take action.
