YPRES, Belgium Travel Vlog | IEPER Flanders Battlefield Tour
I recently spent two incredible nights in Ypres, Belgium. I stayed at Main Street Boutique Hotel which was the cutest hotel ever!
Read my hotel review here:
I loved exploring the historical town in West Flanders and did a Ypres Salient Battlefield Tour on the second day. I had such a great time there and I can't wait to return to Belgium to explore more. Check out my previous video for my time in Bruges!

Trip around the Ypres Battlefields
A video about a trip around ypres visiting the first world war battlefields.
The Battlefields from Above | WW1 France & Belgium | DJI Phantom Drone/Osmo Handheld
This is a short edit from my recent trip to the WW1 battlefields in Belgium and France in June 2017. Hopefully there will be a few more videos to follow this one giving a bit more detail about some of the places we visited along with some more footage.
I have been to some of these locations before, but the ability to get a birds eye view of some of the locations makes them even more breathtaking than I could've ever imagined.
Before filming in these historic locations I checked with the relevant authorities for permission to fly the Phantom at these locations. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) agreed that I could fly; whereas it is strictly forbidden at all the Canadian Memorials in accordance with Canadian National Park rules.
Locations in this video (not in the order they appear);
- Vimy Ridge (Canadian National Memorial)
- Tyne Cot Cemetery [The largest CWGC cemetery in the world]
- Thiepval Memorial to the Missing (of the Somme) [The largest CWGC monument in the world]
- Toronto Avenue Cemetery - CWGC
- Mud Corner Cemetery - CWGC
- Prowse Point Cemetery* - CWGC
- Hyde Park Corner Cemetery & Royal Berkshire Extension - CWGC
- Spanbroekmolen Mine Crater (Pool of Peace) - Talbot House
- Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery - CWGC
- Lone Tree Cemetery - CWGC
*An interesting point to note is that Prowse Point Cemetery is the only WW1 cemetery the Ypres Salient to be named after a person and not a place. This is due to the heroism of Major Charles Prowse. It is also the location of where the 1914 'Christmas Truce Game of Football' took place.
More information about the Royal British Legion can be found at
Thanks to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for allowing me to film at these locations. Check them out here

Above The Battlefield: Hooge Crater Cemetery
Above The Battlefield is a project to film the WW1 Battlefields from above using a DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ Drone. All filming is done with permission and special thanks to Commonwealth War Graves Commission:
This video shows Hooge Crater Cemetery one of the largest in the Flanders battlefields close to Ypres. There 5,923 graves here and more than half of them are unknown soldiers. More on the cemetery here:

In Part 2 we continue around the Passchendaele Museum and go to the Hill 62 museum, trenches left just as they were at the end of the war.
For more info:
The Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 in Zonnebeke is a Belgian museum devoted to the 1917 Battle of Passchendaele, where in 1917 in only 100 days, almost 500,000 men were killed for only eight kilometers gain of ground. (Wikipedia)

boesinghe - the forgotten battlefield WW1 trenches - belgium - 2000
VISITED THESE WW1 TRENCHES IN 2000.THEY ARE NOW HIDDEN FOREVER I BELIEVE BY A BRAND NEW INDUSTRIAL ESTATE.THESE HALF A DOZEN OR SO PICTURES ARE SCANS OF PHOTOS I TOOK ( PRE DIGITAL ) NOT THE BEST QUALITY BUT A SNAPSHOT IN TIME . A HISTORY OF THE SITE IS BELOW
After the last shell had fallen in 1918, the ground at Boesinghe soon became forgotten and abandoned. No houses were built on the area of the front lines east of the canal, and the fields were used for pasture. In the late 1990s the ground passed into the hands of developers, factory sites were planned and construction began. A group of local historians and archaeologists, called The Diggers, realised what might lie just below the surface and obtained a licence to work on the site. The result was an amazing survey of a section of the Western Front battlefields, which had never been attempted before.
The result was an amazing survey of a section of the Western Front battlefields, which had never been attempted before.
During the course of their work whole trench systems were unearthed, dugouts entered and every artefact connected with life at the front was uncovered. In the process the remains of more than 120 World War One soldiers were also found; British, French and German. None were ever identified, which is hardly surprising given the nature of the battlefield at Boesinghe and the fact that many were found in No Man's Land itself.
Soon the battlefield at Boesinghe will be completely covered in new buildings, and the trenches just below the surface lost forever. However, the work of The Diggers has given an insight into a part of the line that was typical of the British sector of the Western Front, and the life experienced by the average soldier in the front line.

Ieper Kazematten
