Waterfalls at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary, Green Bay, Wisconsin
This is the FIRST video I have put on You Tube! More to follow but I just wanted to put up a short but nice one - mostly just to make sure that it works! Taken with a Canon G10 using standard definition (VGA) settings. This waterfalls is not natural - it is artificial. However it does look beautiful and with a little time will look like it has always been there. When this video was taken it had only been in operation for about a month. If you are a nature photographer or a nature lover this is definitely a place you would probably like.

Back Bay Refuge
Back Bay Refuge contains over 9,000 acres, situated on and around a thin strip of coastline typical of barrier islands found along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. Habitats include beach, dunes, woodland, farm fields, and marsh. The majority of refuge marshlands are on islands contained within the waters of Back Bay.
The Back Bay Refuge is located near Virginia Beach, Virginia - south of Sandbridge, Virginia.
Rt 318 Eastbound Near Citra, Florida
This narrow 2-lane road roams through the countryside of central Florida, passing by one large horse farm after another. The view as seen in this video is typical of northern Florida. Look closely at the trees as we pass under them for the typical hangling clumps of spanish moss ( which isn't the actul term).
Starting at about 4:27 into the video we pass an area on the right which is grounds of the University of Florida Agricultural Research Center- whatever that means.
My favorite part of this ride begins at about 4:55, where the road passes under a canopy of large trees on both sides of the road.
This video was shot in late April, '09, and the vegetation is as green as Ohio looks in June. The video starts close to the intersection of 318 & I-75 at exit 368. The closest large town is Ocala, about 10 miles to the south.

Live Streaming Chicken ???? Coop Cam - Where YOU Can Feed Us Online! - Wildlife Nature Camera
NEW: Now you can feed us! That's right, you ????, watching on YouTube, you can give treats to the chickens any time simply by sending a super chat or a super sticker - and watch the food come out automatically! Any Super Chat donation will automatically dispense a treat and you can watch the chickens enjoy it! That's right, you can actually feed the chickens from anywhere in the world! To donate, you just click the dollar sign in the chat window - it's that easy! The donations are used to support the stream.
NOTICE: THIS IS THE MOST ADVANCED LIVE ANIMAL CAMERA IN THE WORLD. Read on to learn why / How it works.
HISTORY: Back in the Y2K, I had over 50 chickens and wanted to create an internet connected feeder with a live stream so people around the world could feed them, interact with them and enjoy watching them. My college roommates laughed, but I was sure there are other people out there that would find chickens to be as much fun to watch, and feed as I do. I've always believed that no animals are more fun to watch than chickens because they have an entire social structure that can be observed through the lens. I actually did have a live camera back then, but it could only support 20 viewers at once, and I needed a solid streaming platform and worldwide high speed internet to come into existence. There was also no good way to process payment for the treats, so I put the idea on the shelf for 19 years and waited for technology to catch up to this concept. Almost 20 years later, here we are!
For every 20 new subscribers, the chickens will be given an automatic 'treat' from the feed dispenser. The feeder talks to the YouTube API to determine when to dispense treats, and the camera automatically zooms in when the birds are fed.
DON'T WORRY! The chickens are fed more than enough each day and do not live solely on treats. Rewind and you can see them eating throughout the day.
The feeder is a custom WiFi feeder developed specifically for this project. You can see how it was made here:
The feeder is also activated using an app on an iPhone and every feeding is verified by watching the camera to make sure that the birds are fed.GATE: The coop is equipped with a one-of-a-kind automatic gate system. This gate is both automatic and manually operated. The gate closes half way at sunset each day. Then, after the birds are settled for the evening, I (or a moderator can volunteer to do so) will close the gate by pressing a button in either the iPhone app that was developed for this project, or by the Moderator Portal. The gate will automatically open again at sunrise. This is to ensure as much safety as possible against nighttime predators. The sunrise time is posted to the blue banner at midnight each night.
THE BLUE BANNER: The blue banner at the bottom of the page tells you important information about the chickens.
EGGS: There is a picture-in-picture view of the upstairs of the coop. You can see the chickens laying eggs throughout the day.
BIRD NAMES: The birds all have names which are displayed in the TOP RIGHT along with other information such as breed and egg color.
WHAT ABOUT THE WINTER? Chickens survive quite well in colder temperatures (unlike humans, they have layers of feathers - and also enjoy playing in the snow!) We do not have a heat lamp because it's bad for the birds, they lose their ability to regulate their body temperature if you heat them - and will suffer in the cold if the coop is kept hot. Their body temperature is 106F and their hearts beat at 400 beats per minute (which keeps them quite comfy in the winter!) They are free-range so they have the freedom to come in and leave the coop any time they want. Check out this info here to learn more:

America's Wildest Places - Aransas and Matagorda Island National Wildlife Refuge, Texas
What is today known as the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge first emerged 120,000 years ago during the Pleistocene era when a barrier island was born. Great continental glaciers retreated and their melted ice filled the sea. A rising sea piled up ridge after ridge of sand along today's Texas Gulf Coast, creating a vast island of which Aransas is a remnant. Time brought many changes to the land. River sediments filled barrier lagoons, joining the island to the mainland. Grasses and trees invaded sandy ridges creating a home for Ice Age mammals such as lion, camel, bison, bear, mammoth and mastodon. The Pleistocene era was lost to geological history; behind it was left the land and a few mementos of that era, including fossilized teeth and alligators.
Today, this landscape is best known for its prominent place in the American wildlife conservation movement. In 1941, when only 15 whooping cranes survived in the wild, the iconic bird became an emblem of alarm and concern for all endangered and threatened species. Aransas became a focal point of the national and worldwide effort to rescue the species from extinction.
Thankfully, due to the foresight of others, the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge had been established in 1937 to serve as a refuge and breeding ground for migratory birds and other wildlife... and ...for use as an inviolate sanctuary, or for any other management purpose, for migratory birds... The wildlife conservation mission of the National Wildlife Refuge System and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service ensures the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge will continue to conserve, protect and enhance these lands for the benefit of wildlife and the American people.
Other native species you can see on the Refuge include the American alligator, javelina, roseate spoonbill, white-tailed deer, armadillo and spectacular wildflowers.
Matagorda Island is a barrier island situated along the coastal bend of Texas in Calhoun County and part of the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge.
The Island is a significant natural area. It is 56,683 acres in size and stretches 38 miles long, varying from .75 to 4.5 miles in width. Approximately 30,000 of those acres are uplands and the remaining 26,000 acres are salt marsh, tidal flats, and Gulf beaches. Matagorda's orientation is northeast-southwest with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and Espiritu Santo Bay on the other. There is no public means of accessing the Island and it is this isolation that provides an unparalleled opportunity for protection of its bountiful natural resources. The remoteness is also what makes Matagorda Island attractive as it offers a unique opportunity to experience the amazing coastal barrier island ecosystem.
VISIT ARANSAS
The refuge is open seven days a week from 30 minutes before sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset.
The best time of year to see the whooping cranes is from mid-October through mid-March where they may be seen feeding in the refuge's marsh during daylight hours. Visitors can also enjoy seeing the birds from boat tours offered by private operators.
Hopper's Landing is the closet place to camp and it is three miles north of the refuge's main gate. It has cabins, RV sites and tent camping. Call 361-286-3331 for more information. Other nearby camping options include Gator's RV Park & Cabins (Austwell) and the City of Austwell Park, which accommodates RV sites. Goose Island State Park is about 30 minutes from the refuge and offers RV sites and tent camping.
Directions:
From the South: Follow Hwy. 35N to the FM 774 exit. Turn right on FM 774 and go approx. 6 miles, winding through the farm fields. Turn right again on FM 2040. Go another 6 miles to the Refuge gate. Go to the Visitor Center to register.
From the North: Travel south on Hwy. 35 to Tivoli. Continue past Tivoli for approx. 1 mile to the FM 239 exit (on your left). Follow FM 239 to Austwell. Upon entering Austwell, FM 239 turns into FM 774 at the curve. Continue on FM 774. Follow 774 & take a right at the stop sign. Go down the end of the street. Take a right again. As you exit Austwell, drive ½ mile to the FM 2040 intersection. Go left on FM 2040 for about 6 miles to the Refuge gate. Go to the Visitor Center to register.
The lat/long for the refuge's main entrance is 28.313449,-96.804022

America's Wildest Places - Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, Alaska
Misty fjords, deep glacial valleys, and lofty mountains distinguish the 1.9 million-acre Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge. Kodiak is the Island of the Great Bear, the Kodiak brown bear that inhabits this wild, rugged Archipelago in the Gulf of Alaska, 252 miles south-west of Anchorage.
Today, the refuge has a global conservation role - to instil regard for bears, salmon, and other wildlife within the largest intact, pristine island ecosystem. Kodiak's diverse habitats encompass 117 salmon-bearing streams, 16 lakes, riparian wetlands, grasslands, shrub lands, spruce forest, tundra, and alpine meadows. Collectively these habitats sustain 3,000 bears, account for up to 30 million salmon caught by the Kodiak-based fishing fleet, support more than 400 breeding pairs of bald eagles, and provide essential migration and breeding habitat for another 250 species of fish, birds and mammals. Such natural abundance and spectacular scenery attracts thousands of visitors to the refuge annually.
WILDLIFE & HABITAT
Refuge terrain is mostly mountainous dissected by fiords and deep river valleys carved by ancient glaciers. Diverse refuge wildlands, ranging from Sitka spruce forest on Afognak Island to rolling tundra on the Aliulik Peninsula, help sustain brown bears, bald eagles, Sitka-black tailed deer, red fox, river otter, ermine, tundra vole, and little brown bats along with other wildlife.
Kodiak brown bears are a distinct subspecies from mainland brown bears; they have been isolated on the archipelago since the last ice age, about 12,000 years ago. A rich variety of vegetation, salmon, and berries provide ideal habitat for bears, and their population flourishes - estimated at about 3,000 bears within the boundaries of the Kodiak Refuge.
TRAVEL & TOURISM
Kodiak Refuge offers superb recreational opportunities—an ideal destination for wildlife viewing, hunting, hiking, kayaking, fishing, camping, and other types of outdoor adventures.
If you enjoy getting outdoors and looking for wildlife, Kodiak provides incredible opportunities for viewers and photographers! From birding to bear watching, visitors come from all over the world to enjoy observing species in their wild habitat.
Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge offers a number of environmental education programs for a variety of audiences. Is your school, youth, environmental or other group interested in learning more about the wildlife, plants, habitats and ecology of Kodiak? Contact or visit the refuge Visitor Center to check on program availability and reservation policies.
Popular fishing destinations such as the Karluk, Uganik, and Ayakulik Rivers offer world-class fishing opportunities for salmon, steelhead, and rainbow trout. Hunting is a popular activity on the refuge. As practiced on refuges, hunting, trapping and fishing do not pose a threat to wildlife populations, and in some instances are necessary for sound wildlife management.
The Kodiak Refuge Visitor Center is located at 402 Center Ave, Kodiak.
Getting there:
Visiting Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge can be the experience of a lifetime! Getting to the refuge is not as simple as jumping into a car or strapping on a pair of hiking boots. The refuge covers 1.9 million acres on Kodiak, Uganik, Ban, and Afognak islands, areas only accessible by floatplane or boat.
Before departing for a trip into the Refuge, visitors typically reach the island of Kodiak by air from Anchorage. Listings for lodging, tours, air charters and outfitters are available through the Kodiak Chamber of Commerce at (907) 486-7605.
For questions about recreation, please contact the Refuge Visitor Center at 907-487-2626

Hiking Matthiessen State Park in Illinois
In our first weekend away in May, we headed to central Illinois. We had heard about the waterfalls and bluffs in the state parks there and wanted to check it out. We had had record amounts of rainfall and may of the rivers in the area were flooded, so that made for great waterfalls, but bad trails to get to them. We had a great time anyway and saw some beautiful country!
