9 Spookiest Places on the Jersey Shore
We are a technology based real estate team that is dedicated to the client experience. On today’s Halloween Episode we are going to share some of the spookiest places to visit on the Jersey Shore.
New Jersey has its share of urban legends.
But there are more than mythical creatures like the Jersey Devil of the Pine Barrens.
From haunted hills to frightening forts to spooky schools, there are many scary places to visit on the Jersey Shore.
For 200 years, Fort Hancock in Middletown, was considered a strategically important location by the military because of its coastal position and proximity to Raritan Bay. Since the fort was abandoned in 1974, the now dilapidated buildings and grounds are reported to be filled with strange noises and the spirits of children and soldiers.
The Seabrook-Wilson House, known as the Spy House in Port Monmouth, is reportedly one of the most haunted houses in the United States. It is rumored to be haunted by the specter of a woman who stares out to sea, a dead pirate named Robert, a British Red Coat soldier and other former inhabitants of the 300-year-old building.
The spirit of a boy killed in a shark attack lingers by his grave in Rose Hill Cemetery, according to one local ghost hunter. A young man who attempted to save the boy also was bitten and died as a result. Both victims are buried at Rose Hill.
Next up, is Old Tennent Church in Manalapan. After a Revolutionary War soldier died inside the church after being struck by a cannonball in the Battle of Monmouth, his spirit remained on the grounds, according to some ghost hunters. Outside of the church, the gravestones of Capt. Henry Fauntleroy seems to provide evidence to the story. Fauntleroy was killed by a cannonball in the Battle of Monmouth in 1778.
According to some hikers, headless soldiers haunt the fields and forests of Monmouth Battlefield, though more than 200 years have passed since hundreds of American and British soldiers were killed in the Revolutionary War battle held there.
Time appears frozen at Allaire village in Wall since its heyday in the 1830s. Some visitors to the village say they have seen an ephemeral white woman gliding across the village meadows. Others are convinced the ghost of a former resident still prowls the basement of the Visitors' Center.
The spirit of the school's namesake, Elizabeth V. Edwards , is believed to appear occasionally to school employees working in the empty building. Sometimes, she is seen with the ghost of a former custodian
Next up is Kapler’s Pharmacy in Beach Haven. Employees hear footsteps or radios playing in an empty apartment above the pharmacy or find old apothecary bottles moved from places that are difficult to reach.
Some say ghosts roam the halls and back corners of the old Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, which was built after a fire destroyed a portion of Asbury Park's boardwalk. The historic theater also is within yards of where the SS Castle Morro beached in 1930 after a catastrophic fire killed more than a quarter of its passengers. Take a look.
And that’s the top 9 scariest places to visit. And speaking about scary. Buying and selling real estate in NJ can get scary unless you have the right agent on your side. If you know someone who is looking to buy, sell or invest in NJ real estate visit my website at getrealnj.com
Tour Homes Of Bay View Association, Petoskey, Michigan
Bay View is modeled on Methodist camp meeting resorts, such as Wesleyan Grove on Martha's Vineyard, Ocean Grove, New Jersey, or Lakeside, Ohio. The structures on the Bay View community consist of approximately 440 cottages and 30 community-owned buildings. There are two hotels on premises: Stafford's Bay View Inn (1886), and The Terrace Inn and 1911 Restaurant. Other facilities include a post office, beach with a swim area, children's pool and a sail house. The community is located on about 340 heavily wooded acres (140 ha), dropping in a series of terraces from a 200-foot elevation (61 m) to the shore of Little Traverse Bay.
Nearly all the structures in the community were built in the 1875-1900 time period. Most buildings are Eastlake and Stick style, with some Queen Anne and Shingle style architecture. Cottages are set on 50-foot lots (15 m) along gently curving streets running along the natural terraces. In the center of the community is The Campus (originally Tabernacle Park). Many of the larger communal structures are located here, including the original 1877 preaching stand, as well an 1880 book store and multiple educational buildings constructed around 1890.
Bay View is an unincorporated resort community and census designated place (CDP) in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located in Bear Creek Township, Emmet County on Little Traverse Bay and abuts the east side of the city of Petoskey along U.S. Highway 31. The ZIP code is 49770 and the FIPS place code is 06260. It was originally formed as part of the Methodist Camp Meeting movement and later adapted to the precepts of the Chautauqua movement. As of the 2010 census the population of the CDP was 133.
