Mission For Hope intro by Chris Harvey and music by I Was Awake:
Jakepine FSR to Bear Creek Main FSR
A quite Sunday ride up Jackpine FSR, 49.876044, -119.705079, which is a very bumpy road, turned out quite eventful with Shooters, shooting from the roadside, Snow, Slush and slippery conditions, passing an RCMP officer checking on a very poorly Jaguar, with bent fenders and ripped tires. Great ride by time I got the Bear Creek Main, Central Okanagan G, BC V4T, 49.945921, -119.743080
Kelowna B.C. Quading - Whittakers Cabin to Upper Priest & Little White FSR
Another beautiful February day for quadding just south of Kelowna. Plus 10 degrees and blue skies made for perfect weather.
The trip is from Whittakers snowmobile cabin, across to Upper Priest road (on a very rough trail) and then back down to Little White Forest Service Road.

TRIP STATS:
9,200 miles in 40 days (~10 days of no travel) ~300 miles/day.
PLANNING:
No planning. I knew I was heading west. That's about it. My trip was not destination-bound; it was journey-bound. Each morning, after I broke camp, I’d decide what my route would be for the day, sometimes changing it as I rode along. Often I'd rely on local people for advice about routes and destinations.
BASIC ROUTE:
Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Alberta Canada, British Columbia, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida. I spent more days in Montana than any other state.
I traveled mostly on secondary roads and highways. I'd used Interstates to make up time when necessary, especially on the last few days during my return.
Most of my time on dirt was spent on jeep trails, though I did ride single track and 4 wheeler trails in Talladega, Colorado and the Black Hills in South Dakota and Utah. Of course that slowed me down, but exploration was the focus, not miles or distance.
SLEEPING & MEALS:
One problem with traveling the way I did, especially in the summertime, is that campgrounds fill up quickly. True primitive camping is a work around and getting a motel room is the other. I usually opted to stay in motels after calling several campgrounds and finding no vacancies. I also received lodging from friends or generous people I met that day.
Eventually, my daily meals came from the gas station. Two granola bars and some jerky.
POINTS OF INTEREST:
Kolomoki Mounds, Talladega NF Kentuck ORV Trails, Ozarks, T.A.T. Transamerica Trail, Santa Fe (my home town), Outlaw at Ouray, Moab, Yellowstone, Bear Tooth Pass, Red Lodge (during their bike rally), Jackson Hole, Glacier National Park, Calgary Alberta, Banff in the Canadian Rockies, Radium Hot Springs in British Columbia, Rocky Mountains, Badlands, Sturgis the week of the 2014 Bike Rally, the Black Hills, St Louis Arch, Memphis, Tupelo (Elvis's birthplace), Louisville, Tail of the Dragon, Smokey Mountains, Asheville, countless dirt trails and roads deep in the woods and high up in the mountains.
FAVORITES:
Favorite Paved Road: Bear Tooth Pass
Favorite Unpaved: All of them
Favorite Park: Glacier NP
SIGHTINGS:
1 Grizzly bear near the border between Montana and Canada
Several Elk
Several Deer
Countless Buffalo in Yellowstone and the Badlands
1 Stink Bug (NM)
1 Snake
Endless Oil Wells and Wind Turbines
Endless Farmland from Florida to the very furthest region
THE BIKE:
2006 KLR 650 turned into a Tengai with plastics I bought overseas via eBay. The bike had just over 35,000 miles when the trip was over, though this trip was only roughly 9K total.
GEAR:
Initially, I took too much. Within about the first week of the trip, I had shipped back several bulky things. I had a tiny fold up chair, and compressible hammock, a Camel Back, a self inflating air pad, and a bulky sleeping bag--all of which I shipped back to Orlando. I replaced my sleeping bag and pad with much smaller versions I picked up at REI and was left with a tent, an air pad, a sleeping bag, some tools, my motorcycle manual, a spare tube, patches, and a mini air pump. My clothes consisted of two synthetic mesh pants that could convert to shorts, a couple of shirts, 3 pairs of underwear, 4 pairs of socks, two synthetic filled compressible jackets, thermals, a t-shirt, sandals, first-aide, a toothbrush, razor, spare eyeglasses, iPhone, point and shoot camera (that died and was replaced by a Sony mini-cam I picked up in Salt Lake City). I had a Mountain Hardware rain jacket and a pair of expensive but very compressible fowl weather pants. I nearly always wore my MX-style body armor on pavement and off.
DEDICATIONS:
This video is dedicated to my friend Jason, who should have appeared more in this video, but something happened to the footage.
I would also like to thank Curtis and Keith who were instrumental in helping me prep my bike for my 9200 mile journey. I would also like to thank my brother Adrien for covering for me at work as well as my brother Galen who joined me briefly in Moab.
In addition, I dedicate this video to those people who invited me into their lives while I was on the road (Mark & Steve who took me on the TAT with them, Eliana & Pedro, Masa who gave me a new perspective, David (who put me up for the night in Louisville and treated me like a king) Dave's buddy Jack with the Guzzi, Kevin who pointed me to the TAT in the Ozarks, Hunter, Sean & James (who let me sleep in their motorcycle shop in downtown Asheville @ Moto Vicious (stellar memory), Barry (who told me about Bear Tooth Pass), and dozen of others whose names I might have forgotten or simply never learned.
Most of all, I want to thank my wife Rima, who made this trip possible by holding down the fort and taking care of the kids while I ventured into the unknown.
