Weizhou Island & Beihai
Weizhou Island and Beihai.
A small island off of the Southern China coast line in the Pacific Ocean. Two days on the Island was enough to explore most of it by electric scooter that can be hired for 80 RMB per day. Could easily have stayed another day. No need to spend more than 3 days on Weizhou. Beihai on the other hand was a lot busier and less relaxed. Both places were ridiculously cheap, hotels ranged betwen 120 - 170 RMB per night (both hotels were perfect with queen size beds, air-con, cable tv and sitting toilets)
This was my first ever editing job. Still learning so bare with me. Expect to see more, I'm keen to begin documenting our journey starting in South East Asia.

Beihai - The Chinese Port Town with Tastes of Vietnam
In the deep south of China there's a town called Beihai that sits on the coast of the Gulf of Tonkin. It's a Guangxi port town that sees a bit of tourism, with links to nearby beaches, and an interesting culture. Beihai has a large number of former residents of Vietnam. You might call them refugees. They're Chinese people that, many years ago, were either forced to leave Vietnam or left for their own safety. Many of these people have come to Beihai because it has a bit of a Vietnamese feel to it. It's coastal, like much of Vietnam is. The weather is hot and the food in the area, while it's not exactly Southeast Asian in flavors, the area is known for their amazing rice noodles - a Vietnamese staple.
I spent a few days relaxing in Beihai. There are some nice resort-like hotels with pools to cool off in. While this did entice me, I was mainly there for a taste of Vietnamese food - one of my favorite types of food in the world. I set out to find a tasty bowl of bun thit nuong - a vermicelli rice noodle salad with grilled pork and various fresh raw greens. The bowl I found was delicious, it was fairly authentic, and it scratched an itch I had.
If you're looking for something different in China, Beihai is a great place to visit. If you want a beach getaway, Weizhou Island is a short ferry ride away and it has some of the nicest beaches in China.
