First Class of Lake Sturgeon Graduate from Aquarium's Freshwater Science Center
After opening in October 2016, the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute's freshwater science center has successfully released its first group of Lake Sturgeon.
This species once thrived in the Tennessee River, but its numbers were drastically reduced due to a combination of human-induced factors in the 20th century.
Since 2000, the Aquarium has worked to rebuild the wild population by raising and releasing more than 200,000 juvenile Lake Sturgeon back into the Tennessee River.
