Research shows China’s Changbai Mountain range is an active volcano
British scientists have discovered that northeast China's Changbai Mountain range is an active volcano. Several British scientists visited the DPRK, set up a seismic station, and spent two years working on real-time observations on the southern fringe of the range. They acquired an image of the Earth's crust structure underneath the mountains, which led them to their conclusion. Research has also shown that the Changbai Mountain had the world's biggest eruption some 2,000 years ago.

China LACKS good Samaritans and it's TERRIBLE!
China has shocked me over the years by being both incredibly warm, friendly and open whilst at the same time being incredibly cold, heartless and seemingly morally corrupt, however what has led society over here to reach its current state? Come with me as I discuss the appalling lack of good Samaritans here in China...
What is an Evil Uncle?:
Wang Yue (Chinese: 王悦; pinyin: Wáng Yuè), also known as Little Yue Yue (Chinese: 小悅悅), was a two-year-old Chinese girl who was run over by two vehicles on the afternoon of 13 October 2011 in a narrow road in Foshan, Guangdong. As she lay bleeding on the road for more than seven minutes, at least 18 passers-by skirted around her body, ignoring her. She was eventually helped by a female rubbish scavenger and sent to a hospital for treatment, but succumbed to her injuries and died eight days later. The closed-circuit television recording of the incident was uploaded onto the Internet, and quickly stirred widespread reaction in China and overseas. Many commentators saw this as indicative of a growing apathy in contemporary Chinese society.
Closed-circuit footage of the incident was broadcast by a local television station, then posted online. The footage sparked worldwide news reports, and triggered dozens of editorials and millions of posts on social media sites, the majority criticizing the callousness and cruelty of those who passed Wang Yue without helping her.
Previously, there have been incidents in China, such as the Peng Yu incident in 2006, wherein Good Samaritans who helped people injured in accidents were accused of having injured the victim themselves and in many cases were forced to pay for the victim's medical bills. Some commentators have explained that this may have caused people to fear getting in trouble for doing the right thing in Wang's case, thus failing to help.
The Communist Party Chief of the Guangdong province, Wang Yang, called the incident a wake-up call for everybody. The Sina Weibo website attracted more than 4.5 million posts on the incident within a few days and launched a stop apathy campaign online. There are also reports that some of the 18 people identified in the camera footage have received harassment, threats, and crank calls since the news broke.
In November 2011, the results of a poll by the China Youth Daily, the official Communist party newspaper for youth, showed that 80% of the young people surveyed said they had been following the case closely, and 88% of those polled thought Wang died because of growing indifference [in China] towards other people. A majority, 71%, also thought the people who passed the child without helping were afraid of getting into trouble themselves. According to an article by Chen Weihua, deputy editor of the China Daily, China's most widely circulated English-language newspaper, Various surveys in the past weeks have shown that the majority of the people polled believe our morals have suffered a major setback in the past decade.

China Moves To Limit Hong Kong Election Could Stir Protests
Local media reported, China moved on Wednesday to limit 2017 elections for Hong Kong's leader to a handful of candidates loyal to Beijing, a move likely to escalate plans by pro-democracy activists to blockade the city's Central business district. Hong Kong, which returned to Chinese rule from British colonial administration in 1997, has been deeply polarized and hit by protests over how its next leader is chosen in 2017 – by universal suffrage, as the democrats would like, or from a list of pro-Beijing candidates.

CHINA: CHINESE NEW YEAR TRAVELLERS
Mandarin/Nat
With less than two weeks to go before Chinese New Year, travellers are already vying for tickets to take them home for the celebrations.
Each year, during the Spring Festival migration, China's transport system is stretched to its limit to accommodate millions of people determined to spend the holiday with their families.
Planes, buses and especially trains are the vehicles of choice, but this year rail travellers will have to pay more for their journey.
Nowhere in the world do more people travel over a single holiday period then New Year in mainland China.
From January 21 until February 29, more than 1-point-6 (b) billion passengers will board buses, ferries and planes for the journey home and then back again.
Train travel alone accounts for 130 (m) million passengers, with China's railways rolling out every available carriage and locomotive to meet the surge in demand.
China's Spring Festival - a landmark new millennium as well as the auspicious Year of the Dragon - will be celebrated this year over a seven-day period from February 5th to the 11th.
At home with family and friends is the only place to be for most Chinese during the New Year holiday period.
According to a poll taken in 14 major cities, more than 83 per cent of people in China plan to bring in the Year of the Dragon with their families.
At Beijing's train station, passengers get the chance to win a prize of up to eight (m) million yuan (about one million US dollars) in a lottery sponsored by the Beijing Sports Committee in support of the capital's athletes.
Lottery fever is sweeping China, where for as little as two yuan (0.25 US cents) you can buy a scratch-and-win lottery ticket.
But few of these travellers will leave Beijing with anything more than the dream of striking it rich.
SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin)
I hope that I will be successful in every aspect, especially good luck in my work in the Year of Dragon, and I can achieve what I dream.
SUPER CAPTION: Passenger from Inner Mongolia
Many poorly paid migrant workers travel long distances home, carrying gifts and hard-earned cash to share with their loved ones.
SOUNDBITE: (Mandarin)
I hope that the prices of commodities will be stable and our markets will be prosperous, and I also hope my own life will take a great leap in the New Year.
SUPER CAPTION: Passenger from Hebei province
Beijing railway station is a busy terminal on a normal day, but at this time of year it becomes a sea of humanity, with ticket lines moving forward painfully slowly.
This year's train passenger traffic is expected to exceed the 1999 holiday rush by 3-point-5 per cent.
Numbers like these give Chinese railway officials reason to celebrate.
For the second year running, the Railway Ministry is expecting to make a profit, setting an example for China's other state-owned debt-laden industries.
Higher ticket prices, improved service and better management have helped to put China's railway back on a profitable track.

Chinese hard line against Uighurs begets more bloodshed
The regional capital of Xinjiang in the northwest of China has seen an increase in violence for more than a year, attributed by the Beijing authorities to what they call Uighur terrorists.
The last attack was on 30 April, at the main railway station in Urumqi. On the same day as a visit by President Xi Jinping to the region, assailants with knives and explosives killed one person and wounded 79. Two of the attackers blew themselves up.
Bloody events such as this were limited to Xinjiang until...
